Legend of Zelda Wii U Gameplay Demo

The sky and general palette continues to blow me away. It's so beautiful. The tall grass looks really nice too, more lush and fluid than the E3 teaser, at least from what I could see. Yes, there are parts that aren't great. It has a year of development left, what'd you expect?

I also dig the horse auto-pilot; good solution to keep things cinematic without sacrificing gameplay.

People complaining about this being hype killing and barren overworld: THIS GAME IS IN DEVELOPMENT

Zelda 64 was kind of barren as well, but that overworld was cool. You see, if you walk outside, you don't see hundreds of animals walking the earth all at once. Games that throw everything out there like that look unrealistic to me.

The way they've designed this seems more natural.

Honestly, the overworld to me looks to be a land version of Wind Wakers seas. Got no problem with that.

I LOVE the look of it and the potential, but damn, that framerate when he zooms in.

I saw that as well but certainly, some sacrifices like that will have to be made in order to maintain a rock solid framerate during gameplay wich is the most important.

Game's looking good so far.

It was funny watching them work the map. After years of modern touch screen usage, it looked so awkward to be tapping + and - to zoom in and out instead of pinch to zoom and such we all take for granted these days.

Tell me why you KNOW that the area they explored isn't the peaceful, more "normal" area of the map and other areas aren't infested with monsters and caves full of treasure.

If you showed someone a demo of Link to the Past and only walked around Kakariko Village would they think there were no enemies? Why should every corner of the map be filled with enemies?

Why do you KNOW that there aren't dungeons filled with great puzzles and new items that open up areas in the overworld you previously couldn't get to?

We KNOW nothing of this game. We KNOW that there's a big overworld, that the horse controls are semi-automated, that slow motion aiming is a thing, and that you can use gyro controls to aim.
Tell me why I know? I didn't say I did. I don't know, and neither do you. Period. You know the horse won't run into trees and you can jump off in slow motion, that's it. What makes you think they showed you content that was 100% in game? They didn't remove anything or skip over certain places?

Edit: lmao, that spell correction

Wasn't that impressed. Looks pretty, but I don't really like the art direction. The slomo thing is lame.
It stood out as very unnecessary. Doesn't seem like something you'd use that often. Assuming there will be a gauge for use when on the horse? Just when jumping off is pointless.

Really looks like a tech demo right now. Pretty poor look at gameplay. Should have held off to show it next e3.

I'm not going to call it lifeless just yet because I don't know what vibe they're going after with this open world. A kind of isolated serene world that seems lifeless at the surface but contains a lot of history buried around you could very well be the entire point of this overworld. It could also just be NIntendo failing at open world design (again). Who knows.

Hype remains at whatever it was before this video.

I think it looked really awesome. Next is going to be insane if Zelda U, Xenoblade X, and Star Fox all make it out. And that's just Nintendo stuff!

People want to see real gameplay of games in development, then bitch about what games look like when they are in development. This is why we only ever get CG trailers.

Nintendo prioritize next time. If Starfox comes out earlier why did you show Zelda in such a rough state? The original reveal was presented much better than this. I still have high hopes, but I think this is a bait and switch technique for a 2016 release.

Star Fox probably isn't ready to be shown. Nintendo works in a weird way, game will look like shit. Then a few months later its god tier. They have been doing this longer than anyone.

It's interesting that there was an in game clock on the map screen. I hope that means that we'll have a full day/night cycle with NPC routines like Majora's Mask, that would be excellent!

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
Started off real strong I thought..visually beautiful beautiful game. But then it got real boring real fast. and why the hell did they just not show the full screen video of the game? We don't really need to 'see' the devs talking about it

And also some of you people are way too defensive. It's fine if it's an old build, if they choose to show it people are free to say what they think. No need to go after everyone who doesn't think too highly of the footage. I'm sure the footage as well as the opinions on the game will get better as it gets closer to launch

Because the game is not done and polished yet, simple as that, they usually never show zelda this early and for something thats not E3

You can show real time gameplay and show A) direct feed and B) something exciting and novel and not act like stuff Skyrim and Red Dead did 3-5 years ago is fresh and innovative. "look epona will control himself and you can move the camera around and not worry about hitting trees!" Congrats you invented fast travel.

Completely agree.

And please, if you are allowed to type "OMFG TAKE MY MONEY!" "HOLY SHIT HYPE."

Then don't use the whole game is in development excuse to answer to those who aren't finding much to be excited about. When people are basing it off the footage that was shown (much like the positive comments). They chose to represent the game in that way. As much as I love the series and Nintendo, I'm not giving them a pass for how boring this demo looked. Visually the art and animations seem great, though.

Cool Facts: Game of War has been a hit since July 2013
I just watched it again, and I feel that most of the "emptiness" complaints arise from them only showing off horse riding. If you look at the environments that they don't focus on, you will see that their is a lot of stuff to explore. We just need better video quality.

People wanted to see Zelda so much, right?
So here you go, a little bone to hold us over.

I'm guessing there will be more enemies and stuff in the actual game since they kept cutting the footage at certain points and went to a specific area to fight an enemy that didn't even try to move towards Link.

Also, can I say HELL YES that Nintendo is delivering a minimal UI so far?

WWHD lets you turn the UI off.

What a terrible fucking showcase. Completely off-screen gameplay of practically barren environments? Awesome.

Game looks like it could be beautiful. Lousy way to show it off though.

I know it's a demo but from an open world perspective, it's nothing to get crazy over. Seems a bit lifeless to me but the final product can be different.

I honestly think with the size of that map there will be a variety of areas that will have a variety of interactive objects. Maybe there are areas where lots of enemies spawn and dungeons are found.

Even in skyrim you can go several minutes without encountering anything of much consequence.

I'll just copy my post from the TGA thread.

lol at the Zelda presentation... Showing really bad gyro-aiming + an empty forest and talk about how great it is to zoom in and out on a map... Oh and of course you don't have to control Epona through the forest, she can do it by herself.

That was one really boring presentation for their biggest upcoming game...

So yeah, I was quite disappointed about what was was shown and how it was shown.
Still my most wanted WiiU-game (with X), but sometimes I just can't understand the way Nintendo reveals games.

Who would have thought we'd see more Zelda footage from a Video Game award instead of a Direct.

Anyway seeing Miyamoto and Aonuma chatting was refreshing.

I'd rather see some actual gameplay footage (like this, no matter how rough) over a cg trailer. I'm not gonna be playing cg. Even if the game isn't ready for showing, its fun to me to see more of a game that I want than for the creators to just go dark until E3 or something. That would also just make people's expectations go crazy.

Holy shit that map is huge. I was concerned that Nintendo was going to half-ass it on the scale, but that certainly does not seem to be the case.

Not particularly concerned about the amount of content in the overworld, but then again, I'm the type who absolutely loved sailing endlessly in Wind Waker.

Looks all around impressive. Yes it's a little baron and yes we haven't seen much of the game itself outside of some of the field but what has been shown so far has most certainly impressed me. I am hoping that once we get a glimpse of some various locations, dungeons, story elements, etc things will come together as a remarkable product.

Y'know, the open world looks great and I love that another company is finally running with the Shadow of the Colossus horse control scheme... but there doesn't seem to be all that much to do.

Ah, I expect it'll turn out well in the end.

Holy shit, the defense force is out tonight.

Most people are aware the game is in development, it doesn't make the criticism invalid. A person can only judge what is in front of them.
