Did Nintendo forget how to make trailers? Talk about killing hype. They'll be lucky if this game even sells Skyward Sword numbers at this rate

i hope you're not seriously suggesting that gamers won't immediately forget all about this as soon as a real zelda u trailer hits at e3 2015

HOW DO PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM NOT KNOW THAT YOU CAN ALREADY GET A WII U FOR 200. BUY A REFURB ONE. THE QUALITY OF REFURBS IS FINE. JEESH.

...REGARDLESS, YOU SHOULD HAVE ALREADY BOUGHT A WII U FOR BAYONETTA, THE TRUE GOTY.

Everyone should have bought a Wii U when TW101, 3D World, DK and MK8 dropped, forget Bayonetta >_>

I honestly didn't see that coming, well played. Thankfully there's Majora's Mask before this, the wait is gonna be hard.

The time was SUNSET (19:00) and it was SUNSET in the game.

It corresponds with the game clock.

This coincides with Miyamoto's comments a few months ago.

Looking at the way he was playing while riding epona, it looked like he was using a button on the d-pad and a button on the face buttons to control the horse.

Like tapping with a rhythm back and forth. Maybe it is meant to simulate the rhythm of holding the reigns of the horse? He definitely wasn't using the control stick.

This is true, good point.

I don't understand why you can't understand that some people are just being critical of what is being shown and that's it. We know it's in development. We know it's a demo. Everyone knows that. Nobody assumes Zelda is coming out tomorrow, I assure you. Some of you guys can't deal with the slightest bit of criticism.

This is a repeat of the SM3DW reaction, basically.
Trailer shown > Criticisms. "Looks terrible. Just 3D Land 2"
New Trailer shown > Praises. "Game looks so Fun! We Were Wrong."

I'm certain the exact same thing will happen again and those people will be hyping it up.
Either way, I'm just wondering how much Zelda Wii U will be improved by till its next showing.

That's what these videos are for.

Nobody can be definitive about their judgments, but they can certainly say things like:

"Man, after watching that, I have some concern the overworld is going to be barren and rather boring to traverse, like Twilight Princess' world was."

Or

"Yeah I appreciate the size of the world and the horse's ability to gallop on its own, but it didn't seem like that was very much interesting to do in the snippets of gameplay they showed. After Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, I was hoping they'd learn how to make a more compelling overworld... early days yet, but the trailer did not alleviate those concerns."

I mean, that's what these things are for. Every trailer we get is one little blip on the radar for people to evaluate whether they want the product or not. It's fair game, and trust me if the Nintendo devs didn't want that they wouldn't have shown it yet. They are hoping this interests players.

I like the quotes, but lets be honest that's not the tone being thrown around here, and if GAF communicated like that more often this would be an even better place.

Dude, no offense, but what are you even talking about?

You're counting MK8 DLC as a Zelda game?

What about Smash?

Yeah no, I didn't mean to say it like that, sorry about that. That was a bit silly.
It's just Link has been everywhere this year, like his face was more prominent than Mario's, even.

I actually checked the release schedules for the Zelda games and I was wrong, I don't know why it felt like so many Zelda games come out. There actually wasn't one in 2014 other than Hyrule Warriors which technically isn't one. It's just, I felt like I just beat Wind Waker HD and Link Between Worlds, and then there was Hyrule Warriors like a month or two ago, and now Majora's Mask next year and this game?

I don't know, it's just not as exciting for me anymore. I wouldn't complain since I could just not buy any more until I am in the mood again, but... As a hardcore Nintendo fan, this is an awkward moment for me, haha. It's like blasphemy, I can imagine even here a few people would throw rocks at someone who has a Toon Link avatar but says "I am not really that excited for Zelda U, I had enough Zelda".

It seems to me the only point of this footage was to show how big the overworld is supposed to be and how you traverse it as opposed to show you how content rich or poor it actually is. Those saying "it doesn't seem like there is a ton to do" aren't really wrong but since the objective of the footage was never to show you how much content the overworld has, it feels like a moot complaint?

Nothing wrong with the way they presented it. They've already given it a hyped up intro last E3. They want too focus on gameplay instead of people scrutinizing every single texture when the game isn't even done yet. Y'all act like Nintendo won't have a Zelda and Co. extravaganza next year at E3. Treehouse footage all day.

The presentation was weird. No, I don't want a story trailer for Zelda, but is full screen footage too much to ask for? It needing baking time is why they presented it the way they did, that choice wasn't made because Nintendo thought it would be awesome if people saw two Nintendo dudes playing Zelda on a couch.

You can't really say that this early in because there will obviously be more stuff later on along with the eventual marketing push.

Holy fuck I cannot believe they actually showed Zelda Wii U here of all places. It doesn't look like it'll be ready for 2015 though...

Yeah, they were just showing the open nature of the world. Guess what? Most open world games have vast areas with not much going on but some animal activity, ect. It's fucking outdoors. Do you really think that Nintendo is going to release a lifeless and barren Zelda with not much to do? Come on, man.
?

This is true.

Actually upon further inspection, it looks like he is spurring the horse to move with the face button, and tapping the analog stick in a direction to influence the direction he moves.

So still kind of like using the reigns but you won't have 100% total direct control over the horse. I think that sounds kind of interesting.

I can't tell from this video but the rock textures look kind of shit. I do think (pray) that they will add in a lot of density like enemies and events. Anyhow, keeping the hype in check. They really need to embrace story and content epic style trailers for Zelda. This Nintendo direct style makes no sense for something that isn't a Nintendo direct.

My only problem is that Aonuma says (or the translator does) that enemies appear around dungeons. So if you're not close to a dungeon there's nothing?

Will there be night-time like Ocarina of Time? Maybe monsters appear then?

Anyway, I liked what I saw, horse battles are the main thing to pop in my mind when I saw the horse moving by itself and Link aiming, when he said stuff like picking up apples, made me a little more interested.

I think there definitely is, there was a clock on the map screen on the gamepad. I doubt it was showing the real world time and was instead describing the in game time similar to MM.

I am the biggest Zelda fan, but I think it's fair that people think the overworld was large, barren and uninteresting. It's a legitimate position based on what they showed.

Just like how people thought Super Mario 3D world was boring and uninteresting from the first E3 trailer, right?

And people have seen that for years and years. It might be new to Nintendo to have this huge open world to traverse but it's not novel in games anymore. If Rockstar revealed the next GTA like this, just the Houser brothers sitting on a couch with some offscreen footage driving around a city, getting out, shooting a couple of guys, and then driving some more, they'd catch just as much shit. It will probably be a great game, but that was a shitty way to show it off. I think that's all most people are saying.

People change their opinion based on new information provided, this is nothing new.

Wow a lot of haters. I thought it looked amazing. Wish I could cryogenically freeze myself till next year and splurge on Nintendo goodness.

Zelda has bad rep for having large barren world. Wind Waker, Twilight Princess etc all have large but empty world. Hope this time will change.

The Zelda defense force is ridiculous.

People are judging what has been shown before them. If Nintendo didn't want people to have an opinion about the footage, they wouldn't have shown the footage to begin with. Quit acting like Zelda's honour is being besmirched.
It's about keeping things in perspective though

This.

I played this game in 2010 when it was called "Darksiders."

And some of the complaints are pretty ridiculous and ignore pretty much how Zelda has been since its inception.

Or maybe people can do both. Judge what's in front of them but also take into account track records as well.

If you are doing that then you a left with:

What we see:

Game looks a bit rough and empty. Textures need work and one would hope the world has more life than what they showed.

Track record:

The other Wii U titles Nintendo showed off looked rough or uninspired in the beginning, but have pretty much all turned out great.

If we are combining those two to form an opinion, then I'd say that while there are issues, it would be logical to expect them resolved for the most part based on the history of the Wii U titles we have seen so far. But the negative reaction has been a lot of definitives and "That looks terrible/boring." I'm all for logical criticism, which there is to give here, but most of the criticism here seems knee-jerk.

Comments like this are the reason why nintendo quit showing early footage off. People are so critical of shit and don't realize theres tons of time left in development. This is nintendo for fucks sake, they are smarter than to just leave an empty world.
Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.

Benefit of doubt because is a demo. But Aonuma talks too much, never delivers and says they will correct their mistakes the next game. Let's see if finally he can do it.

And then were proven wrong when the game came out. That may happen here. That doesn't mean that their inference of this demo is wrong.

Man, people. You know you can criticize a demo without damning the game, right?

My response after seeing this is basically there's a ton we haven't seen and don't know yet, so I'm not going to jump to any conclusions.
