Since when has Hyrule had a beach? If anything, this is Termina or Koholint

Or this could be set after Wind Waker and this is actually a new continent on the great sea? Would explain the evolution in weaponry and that slight steampunk vibe.

I hope it's not a remake. As bare and open-to-expand as LoZ's story was, I'd rather have a whole new story/villain etc.

Wow, that's gotta be intentional. They're even both at sunset.

I find it amazing that after all these years these guys still don't speak English.

Also the dubbing was hilariously bad.

Buuuuut, looks good. I have not played a Zelda since Ocarina and Majora so maybe I will get a Wii console finally.

Learning another language is not as simple as just learning words. You need to be constantly using it, ie living in the country where it is spoken.

We were talking about the way the Zelda name gets plastered everywhere, not necessarily mainline titles or spin-offs or whatever.

"Why am I seeing this franchise I like all the time? Now I don't like it anymore!" What kind of rarified air does a given franchise need to have? Zelda Wii U will be the first new console Zelda released since 2011. I don't see a problem.

GameXplain staff are probably not gonna sleep tonight to super-over-analize this gameplay footage. Looking forward to those videos!

I made some images based on a few people's reactions to the gameplay footage.

The environment shown in the video does not look organic. Trees are placed in a very grid like manner and it makes the world look bland and uninviting. There is very little variety in the actual tree models( and they don't look very good to begin with) in much of the footage add more to the inorganic feel of the world.

Those poor guys. I feel bad for them every time something is announced late or in the wee hours of the morning.

I look forward to watching it with coffee tomorrow. :p

A video game that was literally just those areas would be kind of boring, though, if there was nothing to do or find in those massive areas. There's a reason video game worlds are designed and not just copied from real life.

Obviously it's too early to tell with Zelda but this is a bit overly defensive.

You mean fanboys in general? Because trust me, in all my years on the internet that ultra defensive type of behavior doesn't just come from Nintendo fanboys. I mean just look at the thread for the latest The Order gameplay for some examples.

Hah... well that's something we might agree on. This looks WAY better than The Order :D

I mean, all I'm saying is that I enjoy riding around in beautiful environments in games. Shadow of the Colossus's overworld was super barren and empty, but it was beautiful and entertaining to ride around in to me.

Also, a lot of the original art for Zelda DOES depict a world full of ruins and wild landscapes devoid of civilization and life.

That being said, I am somewhat confident that they'll fill the world with interesting things. But I get that some people are concerned. Twilight Princess had a big, beautiful world, but often times all you got as a reward for exploring it was a chest full of rupees you didn't need.

So many people being so defensive. This looked like crap imo. I don't care what excuses or reasons there are, this was poorly presented and it just looked thoroughly crap. It was shocking. They hardly showed anything and what they did show was mundane and ugly. From the textures to the animations to the world. And the map looks big but it's nothing mind blowing. I really don't like all the focus on how big it is anyways.

I've loved almost all the Zelda games I played, and this will probably be an excellent game, but this was a bad showing and I regret waiting to see it. I'll probably blackout from here on and hopefully be blown away by the final product.

I wonder if the topographical map is the best choice? Being a fantasy setting, a hand drawn/illustrated map would be consistent with what the real life Link would be looking at.

To each their own. I would have liked Shadow of the Colossus more if there were just warps to each colossus in the temple.

Some barrenness is par the course for an open world game. In many respects that's not bad either lest you be descended upon by Cliff Racers every 10 seconds. Not everything needs something going on, sometime the interesting part is the sight-seeing and the travel. This is perhaps why Zelda is so great. It can take many forms, and for this one they've gone less dense to promote new terrain puzzles and spacious art style.

All the action happens in the dungeons anyway.

2.15 there's a hut in the distance.

Honestly, kind of a let down. This video hasn't delivered on what was promised by the reveal and that amazing image. Waiting to see more.

Watching the zoomed footage I could differentiate 5 different types of trees with clear variants within each type in terms of structure and foliage. I also counted zero grids of any sort.

I'm a huge Zelda fan, and I'm sure this will end up being an amazing game, but this demo build... Didn't look good to me. There were some good looking moments, but the world does look really barren. Needs more wildlife.

And of course there's some framerate issues and some less-than-stellar graphics in some places. But I believe in Nintendo to fix those things.

I still need to see some story and the main gameplay mechanincs.

This. I dont see anything hype worthy.

If you consider Nintendo is usually averse to large open sandbox worlds, being way more prone to densely populate smaller worlds with unique features, it shows promise that they're focusing on something they usually avoid in their design philosophy, even if it doesn't show their proven strengths at all. The latter should come naturally as the game is completed, although what we saw today doesn't really look like a game that will be ready for release within a year's time.

I question whether the game may have been ready for a public demo tonight, but I don't have any doubt the finished product will feel anything but empty. Even if that means getting delayed two years.

Its clear that for the purposes of the video they downgraded some assets, likely to keep the framerate smooth/etc. because its still being worked on.
Even with the zoom out you could tell some of the textures were really being stretched and didn't look great. But the framerate looked solid so that's a plus. Also when on top of that cliff there was quite a bit of fog, again I don't mind this if it keeps the frame rate solid.
