Nvidia Shield Thread

The wireless router in this house uses both 5 Ghz as well as 2.4 Ghz. I'm able to gamestream fine using either frequencies. Right now, I'm using 2.4 Ghz because it propagates further out beyond the back yard.

1080p 60FPS won't work on 2.4 Ghz though. The Shield will limit the stream to 720p when running on 2.4 Ghz, even if the computer settings are 1080p or beyond.

How do you take the button control overlay off? I want to play Infamous:SS and I get these buttons on the screen and the actual ones don't work.

Have both myself, since the wife has an IPad, I like having both OS.

I use the tablet for work and casual iphone type games and for streaming pc games in our bedroom the tablet works amazingly fast and the specs are great. And love using the shield portable for taking trips and stuff and not have to lug around my laptop.

I uninstalled my old version of Remote Play for Android and used the one in the link I put in the link.

I just did this a couple of days ago once I found out you no longer had to root your Android device to use Remote play.

Then today I found a newer version that took off the onscreen controls. It works great except for L3 and R3.

Gonna tinker with this my next day off. I use my Vita for remote play but the controls and connectability has to be scores better with the shield.

Even with the L3/R3 limitations it has to be better than using the back touch on vita for these buttons.

So I followed the first directions on that webpage. And I have the remote play working. However, none of the joysticks, buttons, or L/R buttons work. I see this overlay and that's the only thing that the PS4 sees.

So the question is: How do you make the PS4 work with the Shield's joystick and buttons instead of the overaly? I think once that's working, we can reinstall the remote play .apk that gets rid of the overlay.

There doesn't seem to be any documentation on that, and the Tincore is ridiculously unintuitive to work out.

I uninstalled and re-installed the application. Tried the mapper now and it came up right away. Working perfectly now.

Remote play is working fine with tincore as button mapper. Just getting really bad lag, even with PS4 on cable and Shield on 5Ghz. Pretty much unplayable.

Strange as mine is running perfectly-better than the Vita due to 5ghz connection I would assume.

I would say if you are having issues getting this going, go to the XDA form link I posted earlier in this thread, join that forum and ask your questions there. The guy that made the apk is quite helpful.

Yes I have it installed. Make sure you have the ITB version as that makes all the in screen buttons invisible. It's called:

RemotePlayPortITBV0.6.1.apk

You will find this on page one(Post 3) of the XDA forum link I sent a while back.

Under "DualShock 4 Workaround" you will see a button saying "Method 1(Sixaxis Controller App)"

Click on that to find the ITB version.

i installed the ITB version (RemotePlayPortITBV0.6.1.apk) and i've got remote play up and running on my shield portable.

i'm still able to navigate using the invisible touch buttons on the touchscreen but no luck getting the sticks and buttons to work.

i've gone into the gamemapper and downloaded the one by darrenltw and i see all the buttons and sticks all mapped but when i exit out of the gamemapper screen, the sticks and buttons still don't work.

is there something i'm missing or doing wrong?

EDIT: nevermind! figured out what the problem was. i didn't have gamemapper enabled in the controller preferences of the shield. working perfectly now. no lag either! it's better than the remote play on my vita and pstv!

Glad to hear you got it working! It really is the best way to use Remote Play. I tried it on my Android tablet and it''s terrible using the onscreen buttons. Really unplayable.

I need to see if I can get it running in my Ouya.

Well I can install it and it starts but then hangs on a blue screen and never connects. I have a post up on the XDA forums seeing if anyone has had any luck getting to run on the Ouya.

I was under impression that the Shield Tablet wouldn't do 1080p60 unless you were on ethernet and were in console mode. I haven't tried console mode yet, but it doesn't seem to go to 1080p even though I have it set to (on ethernet).

Hasn't it always been 720p when streaming via wifi officially, or has this been changed with recent firmware updates? I haven't updated mine yet because of some conflict with my rooted Shield (portable) but the only way I could get 1080p is to use limelight

I have been looking all over to decide if i should get rid off my Vita and get a Shield portable instead.
I really dont like the Vita games but i have no problems about Vita-PS4 remote play. I dont have a PC.
On the other hand it would be great to use the shield's buttons, have better wifi connection and better resolution/fps.
Is it a good idea?

I have both a Vita and a Shield portable, and I prefer remote play on the Shield for the simple fact that it is much more comfortable with much better control. Hell, even the physical L3/R3 work (was using while streaming TLOU). As an aside, I'm not sure where the DS4 touchpad is mapped to.

The quality of the stream seems excellent. Not sure if you can directly connect to the PS4 or if you can only do through wifi (my wifi connection works great).

If you don't play Vita games and remote play only, I think it's a no-brainer. The Shield's gamestream and Grid features are fantastic, and it is one hell of an emulation device. Hope this helps.

Thanks mate. I have been using Vita-PS4 remote connection via wifi. I have a good router and didnt have any problems.Trying to get my friend to get me a discounted Shield from Gamestop.
How did you solve the R3/L3 button problem? I read that the stick must be centered first to start sprinting in COD/BF.
Is there a workaround?

Just got mine and I'm really happy with it. No build quality issues and the screen is great (phew!) Not even messed about with gaming yet I'm still buzzing about the tablet side (1st tablet and loads of research :)) and the size/aspect is perfect.
First thing I did was redownload GTA 3 for it and compare my experience to that on my S4. Wow, no comparison (obv I guess) silky smooth and now GTA SA is bought :) Had a bit of a binge on Play store while I was there and got some guitar stuff and it's so much easier than reading off the telly and frees up space for... (yay space!)
I got the cover and it looks awesome so bad ass. Stuck a Sandisk Extreme Plus 64GB and it played nice straight away and the posty is bringing my 4G pre-paid 6GB SIM from EE (£20 need to keep researching) so fingers crossed for some PC streaming over the waves man!
Happy camper.

TBH I've only been streaming for a couple of days since I downloaded the app (see link a couple of posts above). Was playing TLOU yesterday and noticed that R3 was working. The Shield has a controller mapping interface that allows you to download a player's uploaded button configuration from the cloud. I just used the highest rated configuration and it seemed to work fine (surprisingly). I haven't tried BF yet, but I can let you know later tonight.

Did you pick up the shield wireless contoller, or are you using onscreen controls?

Fuck, remote play works on this now?

I've been wanting to buy one for awhile now but I was holding out for an 802.11ac revision. Then they released the stupid tablets instead.

Nvidia pls

how does the nVidia controller compare to the DS4?

hmm thinking whether I should sell my sealed Nexus 7 2013 and HP Stream 7 (wanted to use either of them for Steam games streaming) to fund my nVidia Shield Tablet

I waited too. Now I'm getting one for Christmas. I fully expect there to be some revision in the coming year now that I actually got one.

Finally got my hands on a Shield handheld and got both PC streaming and PS4 streaming to work. I'm very impressed with it so far. I'll try some emulation on it next.
I wonder if I can get Hearthstone to work on it. Otherwise streaming the pc version seems to work alright.

I'm struggling to get streaming working for my ps4 working on the shield. It works on my phone, so I'm thinking I'm messing the port forwarding up somehow. Which devices ip address should I be entering?

Had a chance to stream BF4 through the Shield. It does appear that you have to have the stick centered and then press L3 in order to run. That is really annoying. I hope this gets updated.

Hearthstone runs great on it.

Now KOTOR as well! Works great with native controls!
