Driveclub weather update out NOW. laawwwwwd.gif

Agreed. Please EVO, let us turn them off. I have actually had to become something I hate, a person who plays from chase cam :( It is the only way I can see in the rain and be able to compete with players who can actually see the track.

Every view is clouded by rain drops. It's balanced.

I wasn't blown away by the gameplay when I played it at an event but even then the graphics were nice and these pics look great - is the game more fun though? It's such a bomb here in Japan though I might as well get it anyway (about $17 new, while The Crew sits next to it at more than $60, lol)

Man, I just wish they could use this engine for another game. Imagine an RPG with these graphics.

I don't think the engine is suited, everything is arranged to optimise the visuals of a moving camera facing down the track. Even in photo mode with free camera you can start to see things fall apart, and the compromise is completely understandable.

But it is nice to see the gpu is more than capable of filling a frame with next-gen visuals.

Driveclub brothers and sisters...Not sure this is the correct thread for this question. Digital of Physical what say you?

I'm ready to jump in.

I bought digital just because its $10 cheaper (if you have PS Plus). besides, its always on my hard drive if I feel like jumping into a quick race.

Done...Gonna buy tomorrow! Bit Cheaper with plus you say....sounds good Thanks for the tip!!

I can also buy the disc for my collection later....

Got this from Amazon today and played it for 5 hours straight.

So fucking good. No bullshit, just racing. Fast loading, nice UI, everything checks out. More than glad I picked this one up.

I don't even like racing games, the last one I enjoyed was Burnout Paradise.

Nice! Add DRIVECLUB-GAF and its friends to your friend list. Have you joined a club?

This got me excited. While I appreciate what developers are trying to do with the open world stuff, sometimes I miss just hopping in and playing a few tracks.

The game puts you directly into a race before you even see the Main Menu or any tutorials. It's the greatest thing ever.

They're like, "You bought a fucking racing game, NOW RACE!". This game is all about the business.

Tips for new players:

  • You'll notice green, yellow and red flags scattered along the courses. These indicate how sharp the turns are. Green - easiest, yellow - sharper turns, red - the sharpest.

  • The music in the game is off by default. If you want music, turn it on. And if you want to use your own music, create a folder on a USB stick called "Music" and put it in there. It will load a music "app" on your XMB. (It goes away when you take the USB out of the system.) Turn it on there, then go back into the game.

  • One of the first things you're gonna want to do when you get this game is go into your garage and tweak the custom paint jobs. The ones they have preset for you are (I think) pretty ugly.
A quick demonstration (not my video)

You can also choose to eschew designs altogether and go with solid colors if that's your thing. Once these customs are set, they can be used on any of your non-club cars when you go into any race. But the tweaking of the designs themselves have to be done in the garage!

Just a few pointers that may not be apparent from the get go.

I like the Menu music, but the music while driving is pretty terrible.

No it is not. Just look for yourself. It is much easier to see in chase cam than bumper. You'd have to be blind to miss that.

I find cockpit to be the best one, because momentarily there are no rain drops...with that said, i think that there should be rain drops in every view tho, it's just fair.

Got this yesterday as a borthday present. I tried some races yesterday, the first from the solo career mode, i wasn't feeling it.

Tried again today, went online and chose a Weather playlist and hoooly shit. Weather makes races so much more exciting, and prettier of course.

I never play racing games online cause i'm not very good at them but here, even when i only managed to win once and ended pretty bad in some races, i had a fucking blast.

Happy Borthday!

That's actually some pretty good driving there, Lytton is one of the more difficult point to point tracks in the game.

Looks so much better without the mini waterfall of droplets on the screen in the final version.
Agreed. I really hope they fix that. It makes the ground cam and third-person cameras almost unplayable... it's ugly and not fun when I'm playing SP and it hurts your competitiveness in MP. The rain in general looks amazing, and the rain looks incredible in the dash or cockpit cams, but I can't stand it outside the car.

I've had the game since launch, and for me the graphics were pretty good but nothing mindblowing.
I just tried scotland with the weather turned on. Holy motherfucking shit. Legitimately blown away. First proper next-gen experience I've had on new hardware. It's incredible.

So I've seen this thread, but I'm a mobile user 90% of the time. Didn't even click since the title kind of says LARGE GIFS.

Now I'm on a PC.

THOSE GIFS
Guys I want DriveClub.
I don't have a PS4 yet, but I know the first game I'm buying. Oh man.

Why isn't this game being advertised with those .gifs and big letters saying "ACTUAL GAMEPLAY" or something.

I found the Hot Hatch events to be a bit pedestrian, and a visiting friend felt the same. Once I got to the second tier of tour events I started enjoying it a lot more. By the third tier I was in love (this was all pre-weather patch). Called that same friend up and he came over for some time trials in the better cars. He came around pretty quickly, and since the weather patch hit he can't get enough either and is seriously considering getting his own PS4 now.

Use them to get used to the motion controls, they're much better than analog sticks.

Ok just got a bit of xmas money and couldn't resist! These are my first impressions (having done the initial tour event in India and a few time trials in Canada in the Mercedes A Class and as someone who has recently put many many hours into FH2).

Graphics wise, in the dry I actually prefer FH2. Aliasing is pretty bad in drive club and it just feels a little flat. In the wet though there is no competition at all, the DC weather effects are staggering. My favourite is the sun breaking through the storm clouds, the effect is mesmerising!

Framerate wise well this is a little weird but even though digital foundry have shown both are 30 locked DC feels more jittery? I don't know if its clever use of motion blur on FH2?

Handling wise again from the very little i've played DC feels a little flat compared to FH2. In the A class it seems pretty much impossible to destabilise the car with understeer being the only consequence of overspeed - i'm not sure what is more realistic but FH2 definitely feels more involved (also i think the rumble triggers help).

Gameplay wise I've really enjoyed what I've played so far, all the festival stuff in FH2 just gets on my nerves and I have a feeling I will prefer the raw nature of DC more.

Audio - why the hell are the engines so quiet in DC?! Let me crank it up!

Overall I think i'm going to get a lot of fun out of DC, it may not be a particularly expansive game in content/story but as a game i can drop in and out of I can see it being a go to game when I have a few spare minutes.

That was exactly why I bought the digital version. No need to hassle with the discs, if I just want to race few tracks, or check the challenges.

This is really my only problem with the game. The sound is good but it is too clean and feels like it doesn't utilise the full range. In the lower performance classes the sounds feel about right but once you get to the performance class the sounds should become a bit rougher around the edges and exhibit deeper lows and more aggressive distorted highs, more subduded in the interior camera for the performance class and less so each class above (though some in real life are really quite considering how loud their engines are), except for the open cars they should also have the addition of wind, as it is surprising how loud the wind is even with a powerful engine right in front of you. The bonnet camera should sound really raw especially in the hypers. The cars with a V8 should have that growl coming through on a subwoofer which they don't at the moment, even in stationary they should sound impressive.

Just listen to the sound of a Pagani Zonda R and that doesn't come close to how aggressive it sounds in real life. Note how at the peaks the sound distorts and has the messy rough edge to it that is what I would call the classic sound of an engine getting a work out and the most important thing to replicate.

Oh plus the addition of rain and thunder. No other game has ever really got the sounds of cars right and is more of a niggle on my part that may be unrealistic.

You're in for a treat when you do more of the tour. I found the hot-hatches to be just alright, but after getting past that initial class I kinda "got it". I've only just managed to do the amateur trophy (I've been trying to 3 star every race, but I'm pretty terrible at driving games), so I'm hoping there's even more fun to come.

Some locations definitely look better than others though. An upcoming patch is meant to address audio issues, I think.

Yeah just finished the second tour event up in the mountains (Chile i think, wasn't paying attention!) - looked much better and super clean, maybe the India track is just ugly!

That's because of chase cam, not the rain. There's been plenty of pics posting showing the rain-smeared camera affect is identical in all views (with the exception of internal views).

Chase cam allows you to see more of the environment irrespective of weather conditions.

As a FH2 owner i agree in the graphics part, i think the nature of the lighting engine in DC is at fault, at some times of day it can look really monotone, but i'd still give it the edge just slightly above FH cause it looks more realistic, with weather o, no contest. Horizon looks cleaner but a bit more cartoony IMO. Both games are awesome, i think the DC tracks are on anoter level tho.

Every multi console owner should own both games no doubt.

I think you're right, at full day sun I think it washes out DC and exposes any little flaws but at dawn/dusk or in the wet it looks fantastic. 100% more realistic though, FH2 is cartoon realism

Every view is clouded by rain drops. It's balanced.

Views aren't balanced for a start. Why would rain have to even anything?
Just the different fields of view are making the different cams uneven. The rain isn't part of a game design where they want to balance the views lol. Views are unequals and that's all.

Also, I personally think that shit splattering on screen (of any nature) is ugly and distracting for no good reason unless you're behind a visor or a windshield.

Just realized the PS+ upgrade is really cheap for my currency. Gonna return the game when I get it in the mail, and it is soon downloaded :D
