NoA: "there are more great games on Nintendo platforms than anywhere else!"

Right, but what does that mean if none of the Nintento games have that problem/user crapping? The cynical answer is "nobody cared enough to bother", but maybe the answer is "nobody could come up with a reason to".

Right- the idea that users don't feel the need to shit on their user scores over being upset about something is a positive.

I'd like to say something (more than something, actually) but my sixth sense suggests me to shut up this time.

QUALITY OVER QUANTITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To be fair, I think the Wii U line up is stronger currently than the PS4 or XB1, it should be after being out a year earlier. Next year that gap is going to narrow considerably.

Quite possibly superior on Vita, and holds a game breaking glitch on the 3DS version. The fact is, it's multi-plat. Something like this shouldn't sway someone from buying a Vita instead.

The glitch sucks but the 3DS version is otherwise superior; 2 screen interface and easy note taking >>> higher res. There's also a nice easter egg exclusive to the 3DS version but I don't want to spoil it.
Anyway, this gives VLR more exposure so I'm super glad it made it onto the list.

Well, I mean, when you factor in the quality and quantity of other titles from indies. I would argue that PS4 > WiiU, and PC tops them all. Also, that gap is only going to widen into 2015.

WiiU has some great titles, but this is just lulzy.

PS4 doesn't have Shovel Knight (yet)

It's an advertisement by Nintendo.

What do you all expect?

Pretty much. Everybody has come out with various versions of their own "we have the best games on our platform" on our platform. And it's quite a bit far from unique to the games industry.

Never surprised when I go to Canada's Largest Ribfest and see "best ribs" on literally every single venue adverts!

The simpler answer is Nintendo fans are notoriously loyal and accepting of Nintendo.

Kinda awkward that there's no Mario game on the 3DS list.

Although it's pretty rad that they listed Virtue's Last Reward.

Here are the other platforms.

Vita (Retail, 85% & 8.5 user):
Persona 4 Golden - 93% (9.3)
Rayman Origins - 88% (8.5)
LBP - 88% (8.8)
Rayman Legends - 87% (8.7)
Tearaway - 87% (9.1)
FFX/X-2 HD - 86% (8.6)

PS4 (Retail, 85% & 8.5 user):
Last of Us Remastered - 95% (8.7)
Guilty Gear Xrd - 86% (8.5)

Xbox One (Retail, 85% & 8.5 user):
Nothing

By using the 8.5+ user rating, they discounted every high rated Xbox One game & almost every high rated PS4 game. And the retail requirement really hurt the Vita list since a lot of their best games are digital-only.

I don't argue against indie's being incredibly important... but did you read the infographic?

It's talking about gifting. How big is the 'indie gifting market'?
I wager not worth including, since this is talking to parents doing holiday shopping at stores.

XD nice gif but really, I hate companies doing this childish stuff. And with Metacritic, my goodness, I know it's the only thing you can use for this comparison but no, just no. I can understand fanboys doing these things, but not the company itself.
There's quite a difference between "Wii U is the best place to play this holiday" and "ehi, look, the competition has less 85+ games than us LOL , we're the best!". (with actual numbers, forgetting DD games and not only those).
They both say the same thing, but the first, which is what Sony and Microsoft do most of the time as far as I know, is way more "elegant" or polite, call it as you wish.

It's a silly, carefully cropped piece of PR. I rankle at the manipulation of statistics more than I do other forms of advertising.

Saying why your product is valuable doesn't bother me very much, even if it can sometimes inflate a product's value unrealistically; skewing statistics so that an entire forum of nerds has to work to unskew it to figure out how you came to these results bothers me more.

I've noticed that difficult or complex games rarely resonate well with Journalists.

Maybe that is one of the reasons the AAA landscape has become so homogenized and streamlined. Game reviews push sales, and publishers are catering to the Journalists as the lowest common denominator.

Great point!

They are counting the Vita. Actually, 6/8 games from that list are Vita games.

They aren't manipulating "current generation" in any way.

Well, I suppose. Including 3DS seems slightly misleading - since you really never consider a handheld to be a part of the same "generation" as a console. I've always viewed those as separate cycles.

Wow, it's like they did in on purpose.

DKCTF and ORAS were sacrificed for the greater good.

MK on Vita has 8.5

Yup.

I'm sure someone else has already counted by now, but:

A quick look shows Vita has 8 85+ user and meta scores.

I somehow doubt that there isn't a single title on xbone/ps4 that meets the criteria.

Something tells me that the forums of nerds are the only ones who give a shit either way.

I have to seriously wonder how much Metacritic factors into Nintendo sales relative to, say, brand loyalty/recognition and appeal to younger kids.

I think consumers who PREFER Nintendo games, whether critics or users will already have a WiiU or plan to get one, and that the general gaming market is into the big multiplatform games and does not notice these sort of games or adverts.

Yeah, as far as marketing goes for gifting purposes, this chart ain't really that offensive. Shovel Knight meets the query and has been a game Nintendo's been proud of pimping ever since it came out (even tweeting about it when it won the award for best indie at TGAs). You'd think they'd list that too but it doesn't really fit what they're trying to do with this image.

It might be unnecessary to some but it's not exactly disingenuous.

Why even bother comparing themselves with X1/PS4. The market has already spoken and bought those instead. They had a whole extra year to drum up sales and did fuck all. At this point anyone who wants Nintendo games knows where to get them.

Apparently not. I'm spending Christmas with my nieces and nephews. Only one knows about the WiiU, but couldn't care less as he's been playing Sunset Overdrive on his X1 (fantastic game btw). The others are playing games on their smart devices, had no clue the WiiU exists, and show no interest in what games are on it. :/

Shaq-points-laughs-and-leaves-press-conference.gif

Bayonetta? Rayman Legends? VLR?
And HD ports? Really Nintendo?
The actually fact they had to list both Bayonetta 1 and 2 and New SMB on both systems plus the HD ports of SMW and Zelda and games that are actually on other systems!?
It says all you need to know.

Just padding the list, lol
