Aim down sights is easily the worst thing about this beta so far. I'm just picturing how much more enjoyable it would have been without it. It's the one thing I would cut right away, but it won't happen.

I have hardly noticed it, honestly. Feels like zooming in Halo with a new skin, minus the automatics.

Anyone know the process for inviting someone into the preview program?

Panda is trying to invite me, but is having issues for some reason? I gave the GT, and he sent, but nothing is coming up on my XB1 for activities/notifications/messages. Same on Xbox Live website.

Once you're invited it can take days for you to get the message from XBL to get the preview app installed. So after you're invited you just wait :/

Who paid you to grab Dr. Pavel?
I got Onyx 1 after my 10 games. MM seems a bit buggy. Sometimes it take forever and you can't back out so I gotta quit the app completely.

Also Killing Frenzy is bugged. Went 9 straight on Truth, died, then spawned and got a kill and a Frenzy lol.

IMO, it's changed the way the game plays. Especially because stabilizers are on by default. DMR is affected most by gigantic scope which makes it not even viable at anything but large range. As you said yourself minus automatics, the AR and SMG are ridiculously dominant, especially when using ADS.

But then also, therein lies the rub, if you haven't noticed it, and it feels like zooming in, why is it even here as opposed to classic zoom? Is there any added benefit from a game play standpoint? Think about how it would play with classic zoom. I'd say almost the same if not better no?

You'd think with live streaming being a thing, I am so mind blown about the spectate mode. Watching Major Nelson playing in real time right now. You can even float the camera around the map in real time even.

For the first time in my life I went on Ebay to buy a beta code and not a single one was for sale.

I don't think people would have done it anyway, they were explicitly warned by Microsoft not to sell Early Access Beta Codes. I am not in the Preview Program either, so no early access Beta for me :(.

YT compression and "not final res" means nothing, right?
I thought it was slick while playing. A lot of bloom like Tron though.

Who said anything about final resolution? I said the graphics of the beta are not impressive. I expected better.

Hell, the Destiny beta had same graphics as the final cut...

I don't know about you guys, but the aiming is pretty hard so far...I'm playing on 3 sensitivity and it feels super fast so far. That being said, I absolutely love it so far. Having a blast... Just need to adjust.

Halo has always been more about aesthetics than realistic graphics. In a way I agree, it looks slightly better than Halo 4 (imo)...but I have no doubt the actual game will look better.

I think they will improve the graphics as well. I am only speaking about the beta.

I logged on to see a glimpse of what Halo 5 may look like. I was immediately disappointed as it really looks no different than last gen right now.

nah brah we gotta grow up those pixels according to lethal

plus the destiny beta is how every beta should be; final product and just testing servers

Takes more than pixels to make this beta look pretty. Don't worry about what I think so much. I just voiced my opinion on the graphics. Didn't know some of you would get your panties in a bunch over it.

But it's a pointless discussion at this moment as the game is nearly a year away from release. Right now it's clear the beta is providing people with a feel of how the new Halo game will play especially seeing as it's 60fps.

It's not meant to be an eye candy exercise, it's a beta being used for feedback. If two months before release the game still looks as it does right now then yeah.....you have a point.

Quick feedback, there should be a clear way to distinguish the different tiers within the Gold/Onyx ranking in the pre-game lobbies.

It is not a discussion. I simply said I was not impressed by the graphics in the beta. You folks are turning this in to some sort of discussion.

I do not care why the graphics are not good. I simply expected them to be better.

I know this sounds like hyperbole to some who aren't playing it but I felt the same way. The GFX really aren't nothing special but I chalked it up due to it being a beta that's a year away from release and whatnot. I expect the final game to wow as Halo 2 anniversary looks great and that's a last gen remake.

My impressions:

It's obviously what Halo 4 should have been as cliche as that sounds. The fact that there's no random weapon drops, killstreaks or superfluous loadouts makes this a MUCH better game from a balancing standpoint.

At first I was like
tumblr_molekncR3V1sow5d2o1_400.gif
as it just seemed like a COD/Titanfall/Halo mash up but then after about 6 games or so it started to feel like Halo but just faster and refined.

I started to rely less on the ADS and used hipfire more but I haven't really felt like I had unfair or bullshit deaths due to the psuedo ADS.

It's NOT Halo CE or Halo 2 but then again if you just want Halo 2 then go play MCC, at least those two games are playable with modern updates.

The main things I think that needs to be nerfed are the AR's, Sword lunges and maybe lower sprint duration?? I feel like I got kills easily with the assault rifle and SMG. I'd say the pistol is really good too but idk:patrice:.

It's good now that there isn't way too many variables in this game compared to Halo 4 which made it a headache to balance I assume.

The controls?? Feels buttery smooth! Aiming and popping headshots feels wonderful and the hit register sounds as well as the hitmarkers is very satisfying. There's "oomph" in the gameplay.

The movement speed is really tight and moving around and using the thruster pack while in engaging in a shoot out feels good. I honestly couldn't see why it can't stay.

Everyone else has it and it's not something that needs a "counter" as again it's by default a core mechanic. The ADS mechanic could get axed for all I care as I didn't see any use of it outside of pure muscle memory of pressing L to aim since the controls reminded me of Titan larry a lil bit.

My favorite touch to the MP was the contextual player chatter. It makes matches feel much more alive even if a real person isn't on mic. It was one of the things I loved about UC/Gears MP when I think about it and I'm glad to see it put to use here.

I landed a kill and one of the Spartans near me said "nice headshot" on cue. It does sound a bit militarized but what can I say?? It's a new game and it's merely adding to the presentation.

Speaking of that, the post game screen with the high fives and shit?? Look so corny.

The GFX honestly looked very "meh" and wasn't on par with even the Halo collection games but I'd chalk it up to it being a very early beta. I know the game could look better. No one could tell me they'd be okay with the next gen Halo looking this rough.

Yeah...I kinda figured this would happen. Halo 4 just looked too damn good for a 360 game. I had a feeling most people were gonna compare it to that. I don't disagree with you, but the game is aesthetically pleasing in its' own way, though it can be better. No doubt that will happen later on during the console lifecycle.

But why? Oh right you don't care you just expected them to be good.

Wow I love this shit.

Seriously where as halo 4 was just kind of a clusterfuck of ideas thrown on top of the halo formula this feels like a brand new experience. Once you figure out the controls and weapons it really clicks for me. I'm hooked already.

It's like a fast paced halo 2,.

The thruster packs really make the difference here with the high ttk.

All the other abilities seem kind of useless at this point...the charge is a sure way to die but still fun to use and the jump attack seems impossible to pull off

You can't just come and say, the graphics are poor, look at Destiny and then when someone responds, say it's what I think, you guys are too defensive, quit getting your panties in a knot.

The game is 720p right now, and is almost a year from launch. In game development times, this isn't even alpha level. You're comparing it to a Destiny beta that was 2 months before shipping. I'd say the fact that Halo 5 plays and looks this well a year out, means the final game will look spectacular. Look at Halo 4 and what they did with nearly 7 year old hardware.

All right poodle, what do you think about the game now that you got to try it for a bit. Beta notwithstanding.

Well, I suck. So with a pinch of salt, and in no particular order, my thoughts:

  • Maps are really bright, and kind of busy. It works alright on Empire (though they could stand to turn down the glare a tad), but on Truth it's kind of an issue. There's so much bloom and so many effects everywhere, it's genuinely tough to make out what's happening some times.
  • Speaking of not being able to see what the hell is going on, Prophet's Bane! Between the size and the glare, the thing obscures a full half of the screen. It could be said to be a balancing mechanic, but I'm not sure. Speed boost and long lunge range is great and all, but trying to take someone straight on in anything other than the tightest of quarters is difficult enough already, let alone when they've got team mates nearby.
  • Base move speed is a little slower than I'd like. Both maps are big enough that moving without sprint feels like a bit of a slog, but not so big that I feel I can safely sprint for any length of time.
  • On the subject of sprint, it's actually quite well balanced. Between the shield recharge penalty and the buildup time, I felt like it was effectively limited to moving between critical points on the map before slowing down to engage, rather than a get-out-of-jail free card. As it should be.
  • Thrusters are great, but I'm still getting the hang of them. There's definitely a learning curve; if you just try and spam them whenever you're in trouble, you'll often just ground yourself against a wall or a bit of geometry. So map knowledge is a must for effective use. When it works though... you feel like a damn ninja, or dare I say, a Spartan.
  • Overall traversal is excellent. Once you start to get the hang of the routes you want, things really come together. It feels quick and fluid, especially on Empire.
  • The weapons are great, by and large. The DMR's scope is a bit of an eyesore, and there's the above issues with Prophet's Bane, but other than that it's all fairly legit. The automatics are useful for the first time since CE, but they don't make the BR or DMR useless, either. The Pistol is easily the best pistol in the series after CE. All told, (almost) everything sounds and looks great.
  • MM is still rough, but that's the whole point of this weekend (and part of the point of the longer beta) so I won't hold it against them.
  • Of the remaining Spartan Abilities that I didn't explicitly cover: Clamber feels fantastic, Shoulder Charge is situational but pretty cool when you successfully pull it off, Ground Pound is basically useless, ditto Hover, and I only ever saw one guy using the Slide. It was pretty effective, though.

Gonna try and go back over this tomorrow and come up with a more coherent analysis/suggestion list.

TL;DR: Quite impressed, but there's still some issues that need to be sorted out, mostly with the visual elements of the maps.

Not trying to derail and turn this thread into a begging thread....but I'm gonna do some begging. Can someone invite me to the preview please?

Even better than ODST's?

It's been a while, but I want to say so, yeah. Little bit apples and oranges, though, since ODST didn't really have a competitive MM suite, did it? Just a map pack for Halo 3 proper. So I can't really say which is better vs. human opponents :p

It feels like Halo with the now-common FPS movement treatments applied in an appropriate Halo fashion.

It's arena battle. No more loadouts. Sprint is there, but everyone has it at the same speed and access. Boosting, but again even playing field.

I think purists will never be happy with change, but I am very happy with this change. Plus it does look real pretty. The armors available are also pretty interesting in terms of appearance and lore(?) because I've never read the books, and never seen some of those suits.

One other thing: service record is kind of borked. It's claiming I have a negative 1.5 KDA spread, with 91 kills, 58 assists, and 115 deaths.

Also, with stats like that I'm curious how I made Bronze 2 :p

Finally got to play a couple matches and I have to say, its waaaaay better than Halo 4. From what I can see, sprint seems to actually WORK now. I still can't get over ADS though, it doesn't feel like it belongs in a Halo Game. I feel like I am forced to use it to get any kills and it makes Hip Firing weaker.

Also something about Green Thumb feels competely off. I can't exactly explain it, but It has to do with the controls on the left side of the controller. It feels cramped and uncomfortable
