Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

Didn't get the memo regarding the 14th Amendment
I wish I could play it right now. I knew I should have tried to get into the preview program.

anyway, I'm really optimistic with all the positive impressions the game is getting and I'm glad that the Ground Pound seems much more like a finisher than a main way to get kills. As far as the graphic discussion, I seem to recall people being disappointed with Halo 4's graphics pre-release but when the game actually released that game had some of the best graphics on the 360. I'm not worried about Halo 5's graphics a year out.

A guy tried to ground pound me...almost succeeded until I thrusted out of the way and killed him. This game is nuts.

Mobility in shooters is my favorite fucking thing this year. I loved boosting like a maniac around CoDAW, the best part of Titanfall for me was the parkour/verticality, and the subtlety (save for the ground pound) in Guardians seems to be really well suited as an adaptation of all the mobility features for a Halo game.

I really love the clamber "ability." If you miss that jump, you have a saving chance, but it's not a guarantee. Nice touch there.

Lastly, the goddamn guns! They took a chance! The sights look like some Destiny gun sights, and that's not bad in my opinion. If Halo was going to do ADS, this is what I'd want.

I like the team chatter in the videos I'm watching. Gives the matches a little more flavor and Is something I've been wanting more shooters to do for a long time (Gears of War is past due for characters trading one liners in the middle of combat, either with teammates or enemies)

If it's done correctly, that seems like a pretty big game-changer. It could help build teamwork between teams not even technically communicating.

The game definitely feels more like Titanfall than CoD:AW. And that's a good thing IMO. Titanfall felt very fluid, as does Halo 5. I really like this direction they're heading in.

Yep, and it IS done correctly. With this new feature I will be more willing to play Halo knowing I can get a sense of the action around me even with randoms who don't talk.

Hell, the in-game chatter actually gives me more necessary info than my actual friends do most of the time. VERY cool stuff.

That's not how it works in Halo mate.

How does the ranking work for this?

I'm really hoping you do rank down if you lose. Halo 2's ranking system was by far my favorite...it put a huge emphasis on winning rather than trying to prove to everyone that you're Rambo on the losing team.

Got killed from quite a big distance on Truth
Dude flew at me

Yeah, that's kind of the point of the Prophet's Bane. It's supposed to be a bit OP.

Admittedly, I'd like them to tone it down, but that's more because I can't stand all the glare it throws off, and need to point to something for them to nerf to justify it :p

You lose points per loss. I believe one of my friends said you can rank down. I like it because it puts emphasis on team play. No terminators. It reminds me of League.

Yeah, there seems to be a bark for just about everything from assists, to weapon pick ups, to friendly fire, to spotting. It's a little weird that your character doesn't speak (maybe I'm wrong about that?), but it's still a pretty solid addition IMO.

Something I noticed playing with a friend in a party - we could shoot the shit more because of that feature.

Hopefully it doesn't get repetitive as fuck haha

PLayed this for about 30 minutes last nigh and I have to say I've came away impressed.

My first impression was that it is very.. different. Combat feels much more weighty thanks to the gun sound effects, movement speeds and new movement mechanics. Gunplay is EXCELLENT, it feels well constructed. Sprint works great and ADS seems fine too, so no worries here from me at least.

A couple things did bother me although they aren't major. The Spartan chatter is a little too much, such as picking up a new weapon. Don't need to hear that, I can see it becoming annoying after a while. I think this may need toning down. Although I like it when they call kills. My other minor gripe is the whole dude bro winning pose, I have to admit I did roll my eyes a little when I saw it. Again, minor issues.

So far, so good. Also it played very smoothly, no frame hiccups.

Exactly. And tbh, even if it does get repetitive, it would be equally as repetitive from your friends, so no harm no foul really.

I actually really like the Spartans talking in-game. Very helpful at times and the voice acting sounds good.

The victory screen is a lil funny at times but I can see why people say it's corny in a way.

great pistol. BR sucks. Zooming sucks.

grenades are too powerful - you should be able to escape them without sprint, by anticipating

the clinks when shots hit are good as indication of shots connecting but also are REALLY annoying.

low shield noise is awful. Sounds like a clock alarm. Why must everything be so high pitched?

So this keeps happening to me - I finish a match and it sits on searching for players and I never seem to get another match until I quit the game and try again and then I instantly get one.

Seems like 343 alright. Anyone else having this issue?

Edit - it's also not letting me back out of the searching either. And this has been happening 100% of the time.

Yes, that's the bug I was talking about last page.

happens to me every time. And if you don't back out right away, you have to kill the game and restart it.

also: can't turn off rumble. can't turn off voice chat. I'm tired of muting people one by one in their menu - which takes two button presses to get the cursor to move.

Ok so the trick is to back out immediately? Got it. Thank you!

Who'd a thought that 343 would have UI issues? ;)

And what's funny is that the UI issues are very very very similar to the MCC ones. They need to fire whoever does their UI.

yeah if you can see "B" at the bottom you can back out.

Another issue for me - the BR seems no different than the DMR. The bullets don't feel like they are bursts, and there seems to be zero spread. So what's the point?

I think the BR has a wider reticle so it's easier to hit with and I imagine does less damage than the DMR?

played my first match. went 18 to 5. smg seems really powerful. ADS still needs some getting used to but i thought it was fine. unfortunately it got stuck loading a match and brought my xbox to a grinding halt. it wouldnt do anything. ill definitely play more tomorrow. looks okay so far.

So I had a very small bit of hands on time with this... I'm a terrible fps player, a 1.0 kd is a miracle for me and I was playing against some good players.

Impressions though: Wow, they nailed it. Clamber is great (that titanfall feel). Movement very smooth. 60 fps is fabulous. The thing I loved most was the weapon sound. Wow, so cool, really nailed it. Can see this being a lot of fun.

Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.
I am amazed by the sound design. Was playing it on my surround sound and holly sweet mother of baby jesus. That was awesome.

Takes damn long to start a game though :(

The image quality in this is atrocious, the worst I've seen on any Xbox One game. Hopefully they can get it up to 1080p with a bit of AA for launch but god damn.

Looks pretty decent. Somewhat better than Halo 2 Anniversary. 1080p with 60fps might be pushing it. I expect they'll probably do 900p or that 1380x1080 dynamic resolution. The good thing is, they have a year to tinker and make it better.

I find that if I hit searching for players for too long (even coming from the main title screen) after at least one player backs out, then I'm not getting a game without relaunching.

Edit - omg it just happened again. I relaunched, got put in a full game, then 1 person drops and now we're indefinitely searching for players.

Got to semi pro division tonight. Anyone know what's up with all the pros in the game I thought I read somewhere it was supposed to be a very small percentage of the player base. Some of these "pros" have atrocious br's. If I run into a pro I want it to strike fear into my heart and give me motivation to step my game up.
