Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

Didn't get the memo regarding the 14th Amendment
Couldn't disagree more with this, but to each their own I suppose.

It was funny because I was watching the Unprofessional Fridays with Jeff and Drew commenting on Halo and Drew loved Halo 5 because it felt instantly like Halo (to him) but Jeff loved Halo 5 because it felt different than what Halo was (to him). There'll probably be people who just wanted purely classic Halo, but from reading the impressions it definitely seems to me that 343 hit the sweet spot for new and old.

Every Halo 1 - 3 moved the franchise forward while keeping the game intact and not at all being the same game over and over. This doesn't. It is moving the franchise backwards and the game feels backwards Halo, of things that are literally backwards to what Halo is.

I disagree completely.

Halo 1 to Halo 2 is a leap, don't really play like the same games.
Halo 2 to Halo 3 are pretty identical if you ask me outside of equipment.

give it time and it will.

My worry is that it's going to turn into H2 where you only play matchmaking with your regular team so that you don't lose and drop rank due to bad randoms. If there was a personal performance buffer, that would help promote players to play matchmaking. I don't mind spending hours in customs but I don't want matchmaking to be limited to the times when your regular team is all available

I don't see your point. It's moving backwards because you don't like it? As you can see by the latest feedback here you are in the smaller percent that dislike the game.

I've played about 34 matches so far. I guess it feels like Halo. If there was no sprint/smaller maps, and had a classic scope (that acts exactly how it did in previous games. Ie- instantly be able to scope after switching weapons, and shows it actually zooming instead of it being zoomed in right away.) then this could be a great game.

Anyway, I like that precision weapons are harder to use, BUT Autos are really easy to use, especially since you can keep clicking scope with getting shot at and while it does kick you out, you get some zoomed shots in. Either get rid of AR scope entirely or nerf the damage/range/spread to hell.

Whattt i just got a performance decrease of 85 in a single match... My ratio was 0.9, but it usually doesn't change by more than 15 in one match.

You must have lost against bad people. I don't understand how the system works but if you were against unranked/lower people than you and you lost against them, it would decrease your exp by a lot. Not sure if individual skill also plays a part in that.

Sounds like you came in with the mindset not to like it.
Vast majority of his posts the past few weeks kind of make this clear. All those who seemingly already had their minds made up about Halo 5 have reacted just as I expected them to.

Also, his impressions regarding teamwork are quite contrary to what others have been saying; there seems to be quite an emphasis on teamwork and map control.

been there, lol. it seems that more than any other halo a good team can absolutely wreck you if you have bad teammates. not sure what affects this, but i don't recall ever feeling so helpless in a lopsided match as i have in the h5 beta

Aye, team work is king in this game.

I'll be needing some EU adult haloGAFFERS on my friend list soon. I don't know how many of my friends will get this ..

out of all the Halo games I played online. this is the most fun multiplayer I have ever had. the game is just very fun to play. and I am getting my ass kicked badly too.

to me this game and Titanfall are like the most fun multiplayer games I played since a while now.

I do not like the graphics in the game though. I thought there are some texture missing. and no AA. but of course I know its still in development so I am sure it will get better.

2 to 3 is similar, but not good enough to be as well remembered for me. Slower movement, floatier jump, equipment, melee damage increased (double beatdowns debut), several gametypes missing/changed for the worse, etc.

Hovering, Ground pound, charge and clambering need to go. I despise them
I can understand worries about Clambering, but how does Hovering and Ground Pound negatively impact the game?

The latter, in particular, seems far too risky to use against a competent bunch of players.

Eh ground pound and charging are sure ways to get you killed unless you time it absolutely perfectly.

Clambering is a great addition if you ask me..

Hover I can take it or leave it

I don't know how you can "despise" and of these things as other then clambering are barely used and they barely effect the gameplay

I still haven't played it, but I'm not liking what I'm seeing in the streams. From what I've seen, only the thrusters seem to be a positive adition. Everything else looks bad.

ADS? Awful. It sucks in any game, but seeing it in Halo is like a kick in the balls. They didn't even bother to add the option to use the classic scope. And of course, it is not purely cosmetic as they said.

Clamber? Just a crutch for bad players. If a players misses a jump they should fall, end of story.

Ground pound? I can't believe they removed crouch jumping to add this filth.

Kill cams? LOL. There better be an option to disable them.

Then there's other things like sprint still being in the game, the sound effects not sounding like Halo at all, the dudebro spartans, the slow movement speed, lack of combat clarity...

IDK, maybe when I play it I end up liking it, maybe a miracle happens and it actually feels like Halo despite all evidence saying otherwise... Halo is the only console FPS I still like, and Halo 5 seems to be a Halo game in name only. :( Ogre 2 quitting the beta after just a couple of matches to play Halo CE instead says it all, really.

Qft. I agree with all those points.

You can turn hover off in the control settings. I strongly recommend turning it off. Ground pound and charge are balanced enough. If anything you only do that when you know for sure you're getting the kill. Clambering I kind of don't like, but also like it. I don't like it because I prefer skill jumps, but I like it because I have actually found some nice routes I can take with it to flank someone or get to a vantage point.

Not at all. Like I said a typical match does not feel like a typical Halo of a tight cohesive heavy teamwork match e.g., Counter Strike, Halo 1-3 MP, where it is a sandbox, but you're aware of what is going on and attempt to control it (hard to explain). This feels more of a COD like (not exact but for comparison) medley for many reasons. As a Halo multiplayer fan, a lot of the new things feel unnecessary/don't work/ruin game play/ruin game flow and really feel like they are missing the target/missing the goal worrying about new things instead of a teamwork match. Ground and pound, like really? When you play for yourself, compare a match to previous Halo. Not saying it should exactly be like that but does not feel like the standard competitive match and I competed in FPS's since the original Rainbow 6 on PC.

This doesn't feel like COD at all. Doesn't feel like halo either... just different and I gotta get used to it. Not bad by any means tho.

I would recommend you play it with an open mind before judging it. It won't immediately feel like Halo but it is really great and when you figure out the mechanics it definitely feels like Halo.

I think this game handles ADS perfectly, there is a huge amount of risk entering a battle and using ADS. But from a distance it can be useful.

I feel like some people are trying to find every excuse to hate this game right now. I went in a little apprehensive and was a bit put off after my first couple games but once you nail the thruster controls and the aiming it's probably the most balanced and most fun halo game I've played. They really nailed it here. This is Halo for next-gen.

If you want vintage halo with updated graphics then MCC offers that. I'll gladly take both of these offerings.

How? Isn't Ground pound activated with the crouch button while in the air?
Don't think so.

GP is tied to the crouch function so once you jump, it's GP or nothing else.
http://teambeyond.net/forum/index.p...-multiplayer-beta-reveal-discussion/?p=339399

There are spots where you can crouch jump or spring jump to clear the upper level cleanly without having to do the clamber animation. Crouch jumping is faster and keeps your gun at the ready. Clamber is slower and puts your gun away.

Good players will crouch/spring jump onto higher ground where noobs will clamber. Plus there are long jumps that require sprint + thrust + clamber to even access. We'll see how it all plays out next month.

OMG guys, I tweeted Josh Holmes some love and he just gave me a code for the early beta access!
Dang it. :(

I know some of you 343 folk are hovering around here. haaalp

The game is fun but in a different way than Halo and definitely improved over 4. It is more a medley feel now. Can someone PM me the HTML code to link a video on here where it is displayed in the post?

The weapon design is a lot better than 4 and they did a good job with that. The sniper rifle feels good and way better than Halo 4. The pistol too - I like the sound of the pistol. The nades sound and feel good too. The BR fails for way too large of a scope and reticule, looks way too trashy. The DMR is good too but again the ADS is just terrible and unnecessary. Again, these things feel tacked on. The good thing is you won't be using ADS because the time it takes will get you owned. The AR is more powerful and you can get kills with it long range, but you will get wrecked vs someone with a BR.

The game is super smooth.

The power weapon call outs are absolutely retarded.

The sprint is retarded. Press 'A' and you will happily sprint away even when team mates are calling out, it dampens the teamwork gameplay flow.

It sort of follows Halo 4 where it's hard to explain but its Halo with the 343 design/touch on it with a lot of cheese.

I don't see your point. It's moving backwards because you don't like it? As you can see by the latest feedback here you are in the smaller percent that dislike the game.

I'll let the game release first. I am being negative, the game is fun to play, but it's not Halo fun nomore. It's run around and shoot fun now.

Just curious, why do kill cams bother you so much? Doesn't affect gameplay at all and gives you something to do while waiting for the 5 second respawn or whatever.

Seems like such a minor and inoffensive addition to the game that I can't understand how people are bent out of shape about it.

First match. Not too bad. I like the added mobility. Still feels like Halo in terms of gunplay but I like getting around the maps with more freedom. Lack of aim assist makes it feel so much better when you land good solid hits.

Game looks rough around the edges but this is the beta of the beta. Super early but the early indication is it being fun to play and damn smooth.

Traditional death cam is a million times better. It is also annoying because it serves as a constant reminder of what audience they are catering to now.

Just had a match with 1.3kd, highest on the team, and still lost 20 points because the team lost :/ And another with 1.2 and a loss of 18 points.

Then i have a match with 16 kills, 1 death (sword is very op), we win, and i only gain 11 points!

I get that it's dependant on your oppositions relative rank, but it seems poorly weighted and not particularly encouraging.

Uhhh so was I supposed to use both of those codes?

I gave one to my nephew. The one I gave him didn't work and I left it downloading so I havent tried it. If so since when does one item need 2 codes?

How's the view of your flailing corpse for 5 odd seconds better than knowing what exactly transpired to lead to your death?
