Far Cry 4 PC performance thread

with the most recent ACU patch fixing txaa wonder if its fixed in this game too now. patch hasnt hit steam yet so i cant test it.

edit - pcss was also broken as of 1.5
 
Can anyone tell me what settings I can keep at ultra and what settings I should lower to get a stable 60fps? My framerate dips into the 30 and 40s when I'm at the home base but when I'm roaming around the jungle it's in the 50s and 60s with some stuttering. I thought my computer met the recommended requirements but I guess the those settings weren't meant to be played with everything turned on ultra? My computer specs are:

1920x1200
i7 950
gtx 970
16gb ram

Dumb Question: I just installed the beta nvidia drivers, and using the nvidia tweak guide I made the mouse acceleration fixes and anisotropic filtering setting in Inspector. Now when I start the game it's all messed up. Most of the screen is black except the bottom right corner where I can see 1/4 of the entire image (the top left part lol). What in the world have I done??? I tried loading a couple Steam games and they are all normal???
 
I could only have access to a PC with a game for a little while, but here some observations:

- Stuttering is still exactly the same as it was at release. No change with this patch. (and the stuttering depends on car and events spawning)
- Godrays fixed.
- Hopefully memory leak fixed (couldn't test this).
- Still getting the periodic black screen flashing / shutter bug (or even red, or green).

What instead I noticed, but I can't confirm it's something that depends on 1.6, is that there was a HUGE, HUGE amount of mouse lag during the daytime. Less at night. Couldn't test with a controller, so I don't know if it's a mouse thing.

But the amount of mouse lag was so huge that the game was completely unplayable (with framerates fixed at 30, so the PC wasn't struggling at all). I even got motion sickness and so I had to stop playing because I had nausea.

Even with render frames ahead options set to 0 in the .ini, mouse lag wasn't reduced. It is only reduced if you turn post fx effects down in the options. Like AA, HBAO, godrays and Special FX. With all those disabled mouse lag was reduced a lot, but still not entirely gone.

My suspicion is that they tried to incorporate the .ini fix and so hardcoded the render frames ahead in the engine to smooth them. I know that since the very last beta Nvidia drivers the games options were reset, so I don't have anything weird in the driver settings,and it might be possible that forcing render frames ahead to 0 the problem of lag is solved.

But at default settings the lag was way too much even for playing 5 minutes.
 
I guess that's why they didn't update the LIVE UPDATES page that's been idle for almost 2 weeks now, the patch is not even out on Steam... and seeing the saving issues i'm not even sure if im going to install it
 
was going to buy this today, but this thread makes me hesitate...
is it really that bad with the stuttering and all?

i have a i5 3450, a hd7870 and 8gb ram. can i at least play on high-settings?
 
REALLY want to get my hands on this game - but like many, am hesitant. I'm trying to hold off. I'm assuming not EVERYONE is having issues with the game?

* If you disable mipmapping and lock to 30fps (or are happy with massive drops).

Unless they fixed that in the last patch.


Bring back the god rays, I won't be coming back to try it otherwise, not worth ruining the memories.

i have a similar setup and the game is finally running good for about 30 minutes or less then it will crash
 
I forgot to ask, did they fix the memory leak ?

I guess it's 100% confirmed, this patch is also broken.

If you have karma level 8 the game will crash with a 100% repro rate.


How does this company even exist ?

I don't even know. Seriously, some government action needs to be taken against Ubisoft. That's the only way they will learn. I still haven't played the game because crossfire support still isn't in. It's been nearly a month and a half. Fuck Ubisoft. I'm never buying any of their games until they start fixing shit. I don't care if the next game they make is the best game ever(lol).
 
I've never been good at reading PC specs, does any care to help me out? I wanna know how my PC will fair at 1080/60

GTX 770 2 gigs of ram

Intel core i5-4570 @ 3.20Ghz

I support this, i want them defunct/bankrupt. The quality of their latest games has almost given me cancer.

Oh and the 1.6 Patch is still NOT available on Steam ... lol

That seems harsh to me, I think they still make great games even though their PC versions aren't perfect by any means, I still enjoy them and they've never given me trouble aside from a few minor issues.

Of course I can only speak for myself.
 
I know i'm a little offtopic here but talking about ubisoft, the 40GB patch for ACU on XboxOne ( which has been officially recognized as being an issue ) it's not fixed.

I know people who paid more than 50$ for extra internet GB from their provider in order to download a fucked up patch which in fact is the whole game... That's just plain sad

Yeah I have almost the exact same specs except 16gb of RAM and a 4670. I was getting mostly 60 with some dips in the low 50s when using the recommended settings (which are HIGH).

Got tired of the fps going up and down so I ended up capping it at 30 and now I can run it on ultra easily. You get used to the FPS and the game looks fucking amazing.

Everything maxed. Using Fur On rather than HairWorks (Simulated).

My only issue was the memory leak after a few hours. Otheriwse its ok now. Playable, still frame dips but not noticeable since frame times are more consistent. Before it was huge stutter when driving, now its gone. So its fine to play. Even 360 pad worked without messing about since 1.5. Havent played on 1.6.

I got $50 for Steam from my wife for xmas.

Spent it on this game (on xmas sale).

Yeah, I've learned my lesson. Was just too excited for the game and gave in after the first reports that the PC version runs decent from the leak. Now this PoS is already 20% off and I can't even enjoy it as a full-price customer due to the constant memory leak crashes. Fucking Ubisoft...

But atleast their recent discount policy on Steam seems to be more aggressive (Watch_Dogs esp)
 
Feel sorry for you guys, I would have bought it on release but I have a massive backlog (luckily). I'll grab it when it's around $10 and all the issues are fixed.

Verify integrity, turn off 3D3 Overrider or if you have something else like that that would mess with games.
