Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

I understand that 720p isn't the desirable res for a lot of people here( and as was said isn't the final res for the game) but "blurry mess"? More than a bit hyperbolic there.
On a 60" TV it definitely is. I upgraded to that size recently and noticed how blurry a lot of the last gen titles were, something I didn't notice on a 51". So the size of your display definitely plays a part.

As for gameplay, I'm just not feeling it. Flinch is damned annoying and almost had me throwing my controller, and I'm glad it will be removed. But with it in, I'm probably going to sit out the beta or else It'll sour my opinion of Halo 5 MP before it releases. Also, non-power weapon pickups need to be more obvious. The map (Empire) is too damned dark and making it brighter should make weapon pickups more obvious.

-The maps and especially the floors are too busy and dark. You can see other players fine, but trying to see weapons is too difficult. Even if you do see them it's sometimes nigh impossible to actually make out what weapons are actually on the floor. Making the maps brighter wouldn't hurt.

To me anyways, the weapons seem kinda flat and 2D when they are lying down on the ground and almost look like they are part of the floor. When they are standing up against a wall, they look more natural.

I wish Ground Pound was holding the melee button down and aiming with the left stick. With its current arrangement, I find it hard to hold down the right stick and aim with it at the same time

...
-The ranking system is great, probably the best one in a Halo yet. It's surprisingly transparent (maybe a bit too much even)and seems to work pretty well. Hopefully they make the upper ranks a bit harder to get though. Semi-pro and pro should be incredibly rare.
...

I agree wholeheartedly. The ranking system for me has been great thus far. This is still in beta and I would assume it'll only get better with a larger pool of players and perhaps a few tweaks. However, even in the BETA most of my matches are close so even when I lose I still have fun. I feel I have a chance until the very end! Winning and losing mean so much now. A defeat hurts as it should!

I think 343 should map ground pound to holding the melee button in the air, that way there is still room for Crouch jumping.

I think it should show the players gamertag at the beginning and end on top of the spartans. It would be a cool little touch.

That's a great idea.

need TEABAG CAM

Please 343!!!!

What is funny, is that the inclusion of killcams removes the purpose of teabagging, you can't humiliate your enemy if the enemy can't see you t-bagging.

The Killcam plays instantly after death, the player wont be able to see the player teabagging them.

With Killcams, teabagging is pointless.

There is also no aa so that's where the jagginess come from

Don't think the game will be as embraced by the pro circuit as 343 hopes.

There is just way too many (new) mechanics which introduce too many variables (whether directly or indirectly); which leads to a decrease in control. It might be more "fun" (think ActionSack) but it's less rewarding.

There will probably be some MLG modes without Sprint/ADS/Clamber etc. The "Pro" modes.

Why do you need crouch jumping when there's clambering?

There was some point made before about how clambering is slower and stows away your gun while your player climbs up vs. crouch jumping where it's as fast as just jumping up there and you don't lose your gun.

Wow talk about false advertising this beta. On the Xbox one you can see the beta advertised saying TRY IT NOW i click on it and it says, TRY IT FREE.
So i download and all but when i launch the game that's where they bend me over with the you MUST BUY the MCC to try it out.

I hate asshole moves like these.

The killcams also hide the moments after death where you threw that last attempt grenade, or to find out that someone else finished off the enemy for you as you died.

With kill cams you lose all of that feedback and I hate it. I hope this crossed 343i's design team at some point because it's a HUGE change.

I'm not a fan of killcams either as there is too much info lost... I do think you can tell if someone finished off the enemy during the killcam though. I'm not 100% sure because I don't pay that much attention to it but I think the health bar at the top of the killcam is actually their realtime health, not their health during the time you died. But my biggest problem with killcams is not being able to properly call out where the enemy is heading and what weapons (if any) they picked up after my death.

Kill cams are absolutely pointless in this game. In a game like CoD where you die instantly sometimes, it could help pinpoint enemy location. But Halo's TTK is high enough that you'll pretty much always know exactly where the enemy is that kills you.

Grenades really need tweaked, too many random deaths from them and overall spam, even the stupid chatter mentions to "watch out for grenade spam". Start with one grenade and lower the per damage radius and possibly the radius slightly, seems even when I'm a good distance away it can still take you out which gets ridiculous. Oh, and probably get the rid of being able to easily shoot them out of peoples hand when thrown or make it harder, seems to happen more often than I remember even though I'm pretty sure you could still somewhat do that in older halos.

That, and the camera would usually look at the killer from your location as you died.

If they want to keep kill cams it should be a button prompt you press as you are dead, sometimes they can be useful, often they are not.

I quite like their radius but the base damage should be lower, the moment grenades only have the range of being under your feet to do damage they become really bad.

Yeah, I don't want it that low, but totally the base damage can be lightened and 1 grenade start to stop the spam that happens quite a bit, especially on Truth. They are starting to remind me of Reach's Hand Nukes, that was terrible.

Lol I'm matched against someone with 11 games played... 8 wins 3 losses and he's semi-pro.

wut.

That rank should, ya know, be difficult to acquire and stuff

I agree with what a twitch broadcaster said earlier that the first 10 matches should be limted to entering you in bronze-silver-gold and no higher, if you are truely onxy tier you will get there quickly from gold 3.

Easy to get easy to lose if the guy was not match in the right tier he is sure to lose is rank

In any season once you hit semi-pro rank you can not drop back to Onyx. It may be different in the beta idk but that's how it's supposed to work in the final game.

Best article I could find on the info about ranking system:

Mentioned that earlier in the thread and I completely agree. Way too much emphasis on the placement matches at the moment.

I threw a plasma last night and as it was approaching the guy, I shot it and he exploded with it, lol. Shooting grenades is a problem in this game, way too frequent.

So do most people agree that the ranking system is okay for what it is, or is it too skewed against you? I'm in Silver 1 right now, and I'm a decent player. I'm not great or anything, I usually average a K/D of 1 or slightly less than 1. I'm finding that I could win a few games in a row, but then you lose one or two matches and your progress is lost. And to be fair, some of the matches I'm just a flat out drag to my team, ending up middle to bottom of the scoreboard, but other matches where I try to carry my team as much as possible, I might end up with a K/D of 2 and we'll still lose and I'll still lose ranking points. I'm just finding it really hard to climb to Silver 2, much less any other full on rank.
