Playstation TV Thread: Vita Who?

My tru is trying to get rid of Playstation tv's at $79 for basic and $99 for the deluxe.

Tempted to get one to play Grim Fandango

Anyone know if that game will be compatible?

Really debating buying this from amazon, but not sure if its worth it.

Have ps4 in the living room and want it for the master bedroom that isnt too far away. Would be over wifi.

I always "buy" the free games for vita ps3 ps4 ect on playstation plus just incase.

Would I be able to play them all on the pstv with a dualshock 4? Hows the streaming? and one last question, does the ps4 in my living room need to be on, or can it be in rest mode ect?

You won't be able to play ALL PS Vita games on PS TV, but a good majority of PS+ games on Vita are PS TV compatible. Indie stuff usually has better PS TV support than (older) Japanese titles and publisher stuff.

Wifi works alright, but I recommend ethernet if at all possible, power line adapters should work. My house HATES wireless connections, so it might just be my house, but I notice a bit more input lag over wifi. It's basically flawless over ethernet, considering 30 FPS.

IMO it's easily worth the price if you have PS+ stuff and get some vita games as well--I've really enjoyed Freedom Wars, Senran Kagura Versus and Muramasa on it, and wish I could have played Killzone Mercenary on it. Lots of indie titles play great on it, though a fair amount are also on PS4 anyway. Look at what you have from PS+ and what Vita games you could get for it, unless you have very narrow taste it should be pretty easy to find stuff worth the asking price.

As long as the PS4 is in rest mode you can remote wake it from PS TV. It will of course turn on to do the streaming.

Don't depend on this one purchase, but for the most part any NEW titles coming this year and beyond are almost certain to have PS TV support, current compatibility situation is mostly due to games being made before this was even known. Especially if a game works on PS4 a PS TV cert is likely.

Just noticed amazon is having the same deal as the user above.

But I really need to know how good streaming is. Im also afraid that say im playing far cry 4 ps tv and I save it, how will that work when I go to load it up on my ps4 in the living room say the next day?

The PS TV isn't doing anything but streaming video one way and input the other. All the save data and processing is done on the PS4, it's just like you playing on the PS4. IN fact, you can even watch the PS4 output over HDMI while remote playing (good way to test lag).

If you've used Steam In Home Streaming it's basically the same deal. In fact if you can, Steam In Home streaming would be a good test, since wifi is always variable, really hard to say exactly how well it'll work for you if say the signal is weak.

BTW, if you get it, absolutely update the firmware before doing anything. There is a HUGE fix for remote play.

(1) there are widely varying results with remote play. nearly everyone has a different experience with it. of course it is subjective. in my experience, it's playable on wifi, and really really solid with ethernet. but i'm not super sensitive to lag like some are.

(2) the game is streaming directly from your ps4 simultaneously. ie. the pstv is just dumb shell streaming the video and transmitting the inputs to your ps4. so there is not save or game 'syncing' everything is playing off of the ps4. it's not anything like cloud save or cross save.

Picked it up yesterday and set it up last night. Didn't actually play games but setup/downloaded/launched and streamed from PS4 a few titles.

Used my old 32gb Vita card and it had all my games on it, deleted the games that didn't work with PSTV and updated the rest. They all looked great for what the device can do based on its power.

I connected to my PS4 in another room, the PS4 is wired and the connection is set from PSTV to PS4 via WIFI. Driveclub (Digital title) and Natural Doctrine (Disc Title) both loaded and ran just fine, only tested it didn't play for long.

The PSTV is on WIFi, as is my Xbox One in the living room. I have a Linksys Range Extender right next to them but they are still on wifi so I can avoid running wires, if things get spotty, I'll switch to wired. I also have a small wireless repeater that plugs into my outlet in the bedroom.

PS4 is in the office where the router is and is wired to the network. The rooms aren't so far from each other so I may try to do the adhoc connection method as well to compare.

All in all if all works out well by weekend, it may be time to get rid of my vita and maybe buy another PSTV for the bedroom.

The reason for all the extenders was really for my older apartment where things were further away and there were more issues in the walls causing signal drops.

No issues so far on my home network except for the xbox one that sometimes gets drop outs in titanfall and during network tests

Just got myself a PSTV, what's the consensus regarding PSN region accounts and game compatability, US or UK? I do already have a few PS+ vita titles on my UK account but if the US offers more support and better prices I am happy to go that route.

Well i bit. Had a$100 amazon gc and amazon hada used one for $64. Should be here Saturday. If I like it and keep it maybe ill buy another dualshock 4.

I wonder if my home network just sucks for this kind of thing- I have the PS4 wired and the PSTV wireless, in the same room as the PS4 and router, but when I try remote play, it's just awful. Interestingly enough, if I use the PSTV option to drop the connection quality level down, things are even worse.

Uhhh did you buy the non-bundled one? Because if so you're going to want a memory card unless you ONLY want it for remote play. I recommend just buying the bundle for most people unless you're going to get a bigger memory card elsewhere and already have plenty of controllers.

Haha same. I got it yesterday from Amazon Warehouse and really like it so far.
It's a nifty little device.

The Memory Card I just transfer from my Vita to it.

One thing I am disappointed about in regards to the Playstation TV, he internal WiFi card sucks. I had to up the transmit power of my WiFi to 100% just to get my PSTV to see it, which I didn't need to do for any other device.

I have an AC router, Linksys EA6900. I have my PS4 directly connected to it and it enjoys a great connection.

Donwstairs, directly below, I have a larger TV and wanted to use the RP option to connect to the PS4.

Wireless?
Lag.

Bought a set of powerline adapters. Connected them.
Lag.

Really bummed. Wanted to use it, but it's now a coaster.

It may be. Sometimes the walls can be a combination of Sheetrock and Wood, or Sheetrock and Concrete and even a mix of metal and pipes depending on how it was built, repaired and bathroom/kitchen positioning.

My old apartment needed the extra repeater support, channel selecting and static ip assignment, new apartment has been solid without it so the extra repeaters just makes it that more solid. Except for the xbox one for some reason.

Now that I think about it, I chose the 5ghz for the X1, maybe I'll try the 2.4 network.

You can also try to create a second or guest network and set it up for only your gaming devices and see if that helps.

5Ghz is great when it works but doesn't go through walls as well as 2.4. 2.4 is often better at a range/with obstruction.

Firmware updated, right? Remoteplay used to be bad, pretty good after the firmware update (months ago but the stock firmware probably doesn't have it)...can't see why ethernet would have much lag regardless of enviornment...though I'm not sure if powerline adapters introduce lag

Does anyone know of any Playstation/Vita TV enhanced games?

I noticed when I played Sword Art Online Hollow Fragment I was able to use L2 and R2 to control the camera zoom.
Anyone know of any other games that work?
Just as I type this I finally find a list
http://www.reddit.com/r/VitaTV/comments/2q41iu/list_of_games_with_playstation_tv_exclusive/

Borderlands 2 (Fully mapped Dualshock support, L2, R2, L3, R3 fully functional)
Guacamelee (Same-Screen multiplayer, Supports 2 controllers)
Killzone Mercenary (Fully mapped Dualshock support, L2, R2, L3, R3 fully functional)
Minecraft PS Vita Edition (Fully mapped Dualshock support, L2, R2, L3, R3 fully functional)
Nidhogg (Same-Screen multiplayer, Supports 2 controllers)
Samurai Warriors 4 (Fully mapped Dualshock support, L2, R2, L3, R3 fully functional)
Spelunky (Same-screen multiplayer, Supports 2 controllers)
Sword Art Online Hollow Fragment (Dualshock extra button support, L2, R2 act as camera zoom In/out)

Future:
Skullgirls Encore (said to feature same-screen multiplayer)

I think, someone has written Lumines in JP edition works good. EU/NA version has problems.

I sent Ubisoft a support claim about getting it to work.
It's weird that when sites that imported that Japanese Vita TV at launch tried NA Lumines it worked fine D:

Freedom Wars? :(

If the news this weekend at the Freedom Wars conference turns out to be a 1.5 version, I hope being able to use the full DS4 controller is available. I'll buy one for it.

Freedom Wars afaik doesn't gain anything from being played on Vita TV.
Other than a more comfortable controller and playing it on the big screen.

IMO mess with PS TV is incredible. EU version od Danganronpa 1 doesn't work, but NA yes in...EU PS TV. JP Lumines works, NA/EU not. Soul Sacrifice not, but Delta yes!? Do something with this sh...Sony.
Still waiting for patch to Tearaway, Wipeout and Uncharted, hopeless.

EU Danganronpa 2 working fine on EU PSTV but having to import US Danganronpa 1...

...that's just unprofessional for a company like Sony.

When Steins;Gate releases later this year and it has issues with PSTV... I'll be disappointed to say the least.

I can't believe SCEE screwed us over with Duke Nukem, A new release being compatible in one region but not another, lazy.

When I first played it in NA it said it didn't work. Try refreshing the Live Area and seeing if that helps (worked for me)

So the DS4 works wirelessly with the PSTV right? Also, is it possible to be logged in to a Vita and a Vita TV or is the TV treated as a Vita?

Thinking of picking this up along with a 64 GB card (which will be for my Vita, and its 32GB would go to the TV). One question, would it be possible to take out my Vita memory card and plug it into the VTV and the installed games playable?

I tried having seperate memory cards for VTV and Vita and it was just a pain in the ass since more retail games save to memory card and not cartridge so had to constantly upload save to PS+ and download save when I wanted to switch back and forth. Also having to download all my DLC over again was annoying especially since this was around PSN outage. Decided to just share my 32gig between them and made sure the home screens matched (it WILL wreck your order unless you keep them in the same spots)

It really could benefit from L3/R3 and L2/R2. Sad :(

Yeah I hate having shoot and whip both be on R D:
So many times I accidentally shoot when I mean to whip cause I'm still holding L.

Enabled game mode on the TV?
Also the LAN plugs don't like anything else in their sockets, introduces noise which drops the speed. Some makers, like d-link for one, have a setup programming or monitor, so you can see the speed they're linked at.
When I had mine in a multisocket I only got 11mbps, on its own that goes up to 51mbps, which is still way way less than the rated plug speed of 100mbps thanks to old wiring, but its more than enough for rp.

That quote isn't even from this thread dawg... cat...

All your bubbles in the same position, minus the exclusive ones.

Haven't got a clue what happened there.
But anyway, how about that shitty compatibility huh?

All the games that I care to play on my Vita TV work so... *Shrugs*
Only game I can't play that I want to is Hatsune Miku Project Diva f (first one) and Lumines
And for Miku I own second one on Vita which works on Vita TV and I also own first one on PS3

EU Danganronpa 2 working fine on EU PSTV but having to import US Danganronpa 1...

...that's just unprofessional for a company like Sony.

Just checking in on this thread, embarrassing that this is still an issue. I'd buy one of these things if the compatibility list wasn't such a joke.

Considering the sequel is supported, it's even worse. I bought Danganronpa 2 during the first week of the january sale, but I can't even play it because I need to play the first game before it.

And of course the first game is on sale now... but incompatible. So now I have to import a physical version from the US and most sites sell it at $35-40 :/ And that's excluding shipping and import fees.

Still waiting for patch to Tearaway, Wipeout and Uncharted, hopeless.

Tearaway will never happen. They are making major design and content changes to put it on the PS4. Uncharted would also require quite a bit of reconfiguring. Wipeout, on the other hand, wouldn't be difficult. Only problem there is the studio doesn't exist anymore.

All your bubbles in the same position, minus the exclusive ones.

Vita TV has the 5 in the notification and the Ethernet icon
Vita has no notifications and Wifi Icon

So is it pretty seamless? Icons will disappear and reappear, but your icon and bubble locations stay intact, and the layouts inside bubbles stay? Things don't get shuffled around just because an icon disappears?

If so, that sounds pretty usable, and I could sell my 2nd 64GB memory card, because the save game management being manual is quite annoying.

Went with the missus to the local game shop yesterday, she pulled me over to the Vita section.

"Hey, you really like Lumines!"
"Doesn't work."
"Here's Ridge Racer. You still play RR7. Is this one any good?"
"Doesn't matter. Doesn't work."
"Let me guess. Wipe---"
"Nope."

Fucking embarrassing. She wanted to buy me a game and couldn't even do that.

yes I still play Ridge Racer 7 what of it

Yes to all of these questions, though if you log into PSN on one at a time (it'll just pop up with a "pls login" prompt sometimes on the other device when switching and you press "sign in" and you're done if the password is remembered). You can play local ad hoc with both devices at once but can't play two online games or whatever at the same time I think. But I switch between PS TV and Vita all the time with no problem beyond making sure saves are synced and the aforementioned login. (games still work if you don't login but you'll want to login for online play)

Wait a minute, Kolma how did you remove the stupid "Featured" tab in your PSTV live area?

Eh? It only pops up when going back to "home" from an open app, there's no open apps on those screens.

Freedom Wars afaik doesn't gain anything from being played on Vita TV.
Other than a more comfortable controller and playing it on the big screen.

Gains better sticks but otherwise no the playing experience isn't that different. Still pretty nice to play on the big screen.

Did not try game mode - good idea. And unfortunately I have the router ports all taken, so the powerline adapter upstairs is in the last port. But downstairs, I tried the PSTV by itself (got a 4-port powerline adapter switch of sorts) and it was pretty laggy.

On the router or the Vita TV? I dare say both. But will check again for another update.

Firmware? I meant the PS TV, no idea about your router, but PS TV had a very significant (and undocumented!) remoteplay fix. If you updated at all you should have gotten it though. But as with anything internet/wifi related, your milage may vary. I got direct wired connections myself. Wireless is convenient when it works but...I've long since abandoned my wireless dreams. I'll take working over wireless and almost everything in the house is set up to allow that.

This is perhaps the most pointless device released in a long time in the industry. Originally labeled as Vita TV, it turns out that only plays a handful of Vita titles...ok.
Hopefully it bombs as hard as it did in Japan so we don't see Sony wasting their time and money in a similar product.

you'd only be right if playstation now didn't exist, but it does so you can play many games. I think its cool. Its a low cost alternative.
