Amiibo Discussion Thread 2: I Got 99 Pre-orders But A Rosalina Ain't One

I have been following this thread for a while and thought I would share the new shelf that I recently bought. For those keeping their Amiibos in their box, it fits six of them across very nicely without wasted space. And with the removal of the bottom shelf in this picture, it should be able to fit all three waves once they are out.

I think you have the same shelf I do. Here's mine before I picked up Luigi, Zelda, Falcon or Pit (I need to update my photo).

It was a form of Leukemia. Adults rarely get it, it's more common in children. No one in my family has ever had it. And I never knew adults could even get this type. So I was totally floored when I got hit with it a year and a half ago. Had to do a bunch of rounds of chemo. For some reason I wasn't able to kick it. I got worse and worse. Also my body didn't take ot the chemo well (not everyone reacts to it the same way), and I got really sick.

Was the worst time of my life. At one point I got down to 90 pounds. Worst part is, my cousin committed suicide right in the middle of my treatment. She was the only support I had in real life. She was suffering a life long battle with chronic depression. So her death basically broke my heart, and made me give up. I was very close to throwing in the towel. I lost the will to survive. I'm an atheist and had a falling out with my parents 5 years ago. And when my family found out, my mom actually told me God gave me cancer and told me it was a punishment for my sin. So my own family wouldn't lift a finger to help me. So my only family/physical support was gone. I had nothing. It was so much pain, suffering. I was so alone, and so scared.

But GAF held me up. They became my family. They kept me going. GAF doesn't really even know the extent to which they have helped me.

One day turned into two days. Two days turned into a week. And before I knew it, months went by and it eventually worked and I kicked it. That is why I have so much love and energy, and excitement in this thread. Why i want to help anyone out, and make them feel good. Why I want this community to succeed. Because collecting Amiibos has helped me out during my depression post-cancer and during remission. I had PTSD given all the trauma from the cancer, and the things my family did. I struggled a lot after I kicked the cancer (when I should have been happy). But my GF encouraged me to collect Amiibos. And it's been so much fun, and brought me so much joy. And I love this AmiiboGAF community. I feel like I have friends I can talk to. I feel like I have a place I belong.

Sorry, getting a bit emotional. You guys just make me so happy. I don't even know what I could do to express my gratitude and what I feel. I'll just continue to do my best, and try to make this the best sub-community on this site. To help make everyone else feel happy too. Because that's what you guys do for me. :D

Those POS bloggers need to stop interviews that Sonic-loving Rosalina-hating douche and tell your heart wrenching then heart warming story.

I've given up on another certain Amiibo forum and exclusively read only this one because of all the cool people here. I read all the pages from both threads and enjoyed every moment. I couldn't post anything for weeks and I was pretty sad because I wanted to join in so bad! Once I was finally approved I absolutely could not wait to post!

I spent a lot of time out of my day refreshing this thread and I'm not ashamed to say it! I am a little ashamed to be collecting these "toys" though haha!

I actually met a kind GAF member IRL before I even heard of it. She went out of her way to get me a rare Amiibo on release day. She literally drove 10+ miles for me while I was stuck at work because they wouldn't hold the figure for me. I was and am forever grateful and can't wait to return the favor somehow. It was this kindness that got me curious about GAF and I've never looked back since. I really didn't believe there could be such kindness online when there's selfish and racist douches everywhere but I feel lucky to be a part of this great community.

And Azula, I'm not surprised in how you've been treated and accepted here one bit! Sorry for the sappy-ness all. To my Amiibros and Amiigals here at GAF, thanks for being so awesome!

there's still a number of Amiibos in local stores in Singapore

they retail for $29.90SGD (can't remember the current exchange rate)

if anyone from GAF needs some, let me know. not sure how to ship them to you guys through

Just send your item in a box and write the address if you receive the sticker.

Thanks for the words. Seriously. Means more than you know. Also your IRL GAF friend sounds amazing. Wish I knew some of you in person. Sounds like a real gem :)

I just decided to open them, because I'm not collecting for value. I just want to enjoy them. I do love the packaging though. But I also really liked getting a display case like this and having them out. Maybe it was the wrong decision, I'm not sure yet. But either way I am happy. Here is a pic of the glass door open:

tNNog41.png

If I had kept them in the box, I could have only fit 9 on each shelf (and they would have been stacked in front of each other in a straight line (so the one behind would be blocked).

Anyways, Wave 1 and 2 100% complete. I'm so happy. :D

EDIT:

I still plan on adding more to the case. I want to get those Staircase holders that will allow me to put each one on a stair level. And I'm toying with the idea of using LED strips (I'm not 100% sure if that will be too much lights). You guys have to see the case in person. It looks better in person, and is beautiful. But I think maybe it's too vanilla. I've seen some really creative display cases that I'm jelly of.

I REALLY recommend the LED strips. You can control the strength of the lights at EIGHT different levels and a ton of colors. Here's what I bought for my display: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ASHQQKI/?tag=neogaf0e-20

At the EB Games in Capilano Mall, but that was about a week ago, so anything can change at this point. Still, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to ask them.

My friend checked for me before and they said they weren't. Wtf. Someone might have one for me anyways....

Ah. Honestly looks amazing. If I had the space I would legit get 3-4 of those and display all of them in their boxes *drools*

Space is something I'm starting to struggle with too once I fill this shelf. I will have to figure out something else if and when more waves come out.

Here's the lighting of my KidRobots in my display case. It lights up all the figures from top to bottom quite well. I can't wait to get all my Amiibo in there!

QzDwR1w.jpg

Also check out some acrylic displays on Amazon. Even the acrylic nail polish racks. I wonder if the Amiibo measurements would work. I wish I could go into a store and bring my Amiibo with to try it out. The pitfalls of online shopping I guess.

Just ordered. Thanks for the heads up man. :D

Azula why don't you put Diddy with Donkey Zelda with Link ect?

No reason. At first I was going to do them in the order of the Wave's (Wave 1 then Wave 2). But then I found myself putting the rarer ones up front, and then also putting my favorite ones more to the front (vs the back). I'm not 100% settled on this formation tbh. It's just in the moment, I kind of figured I would put the ones that I want too see the most in the front.

It's kind of sloppy I admit. I think I'm also kind of waiting to get my case set up better before finalizing positions. Like the LED strips I just got or also getting these:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0083R3DHO/?tag=neogaf0e-20

But we'll see. I do agree that the current order doesn't make that much sense (especially the back area). I'm kind of thinking, the next shelf under, I'll 100% dedicate to Wave 3 since there are like 11 + of them. So keeping the top shelf all Wave 1 and 2. But yeah, I could do some re-ordering for sure.

EDIT: I just re-read what you said. I thought you were asking about my order. Sure, I'll re-arrange them right now and put them together. Good idea!

I guess I should consider what the actual measurements are of those stair units. Someone on reddit suggested buying the Detolf case (that I have) and also pairing them with those stair units. TBH I don't even know if they fit in the diameter of the shelf (if they are smaller then the shelf, then it limits the amount of Amiibos per shelf). I don't want that. So yeah, I need to figure that out.

BTW, I arranged it so Diddy and Donkey Kong are next to each other now, and Zelda and Link are next to each other. Pretty easy swap. Only thing that's messed up now is that, Luigi and Peach are next to each other, but Mario is away from them. So I should probably float him towards them.

EDIT: actually, the stair things i linked to seem damn small. I have the measurements and will measure my shelves in the display. Kind of strange someone on reddit recommended them for this case. I wonder if they bought like 2-3 of them and put them side by side. Maybe. But hmm.

Azula: Your posts have been inspiring. Keep up the good fight! :)

I'd like to be confetti'd! I'll switch if someone would be so kind.

TRU shipped my Pit, this time in perfect condition. I complained that my Luigi was damaged in the previous shipment. #teamunopenbox

I've pretty much given up on expecting the trinity to be restocked in the US. I refuse to pay scalpers and will just have to go on living without them lol. Oh wells. I even got a nice new shelf for my amiibos. I will probably have to open them to fit them all on if I can collect the rest of the waves. Will post a pic once I get it in the daylight.

I don't even know if I want my trinity order to be fufilled, because all it will do is compel me to complete the rest of the Amiibo line. lol

Also it is great to hear that you are overcoming your illness Azula. Glad you like hanging out in these threads, you've been really kind to a lot of people here and help keep the community closely knit.

Sweeeeet got cap in stock at my store, streetdated for 15th though? Whatever maybe I'll get him after all

TRU?

We've heard so many mixed things on this rumor. But if you work there, and they 100% have them in stock and it says the 15th, that pretty much 100% confirms it.

I happen to go to a Best Buy today, and i found this little guy, alone and cold.
Hopefully i can find a good soul who can get me the one amiibo i want out of wave 2, Little Mac, and in return find a loving, non-scalping owner for this little angel, pun 100% intended.

I'll PM you the link to the Private AmiiboGAF document. If you PM me your email you can edit the document and add yourself to the list. But that might help you find someone that can trade or sell with you (for Little Mac).

I bought both the 9 inch and 12 inch azar steps and the 12 inch steps are waaaaaay bigger. Dont let the measurements fool you. Buy the 9 inch

Oh, awesome, thanks. I mean, i don't know how deep this Amiibo rabbit hole will take me, but i've been lucky the 3 i truly want still are MIA, so i still have time before i have to fight the real battle, since i'd guess Game and Watch/ROB/Duck Hunt wouldn't likely get large print runs.

I already see someone on the document that has an extra little mac, but needs a pit. Maybe you guys can do a trade?

Oh wow, thanks for the heads up. This is why I love this thread. Big help. :D

No problem. I originally had two 9 inch ones and saw the 12 so thought id replace it for my opened collection and boy was i wrong. I now use the 12 inch ones for my boxed collection (fits perfect thats how big it is)and the 9 for opened.

Hah, damn. Do you have the same display as me? I need to bust out the measuring tape and get the exact size of each shelf, and then compare it to the stairs. I know the 9 inch is going to be big and that the 12 inch will be too big.

Just kind of curious how the stairs fit in my specific case.

No i have a 24inch by 8inch shelf and two 9inch azar fit with room to spare

Ah yeah. Sorry my bad.

Your info is still helpful. The 12 inch sounds way too massive. I'll still measure my shelf though, just because I'm curious about the DEPTH of the case. Might be awkward if the stair case doesn't go back far enough, so I end up having like a big chunk of the shelf not being used because the stair takes up 60% of it. And it's not like I can buy two and put them front to back on the same shelf? I think that would look weird, as the very back row is raised up high, and the stair behind it would have the first row under the last row (it would block it).

No i have a 24inch by 8inch shelf and two 9inch azar fit with room to spare
Ya make sure you measure well. You could always buy one and see

I just measured, and my shelf is actually...13 inch width. So the 12 inch width of that massive stair case actually fits perfectly on it. It's probably why the guy on Reddit recommended it.

The only thing that bugs me is, the depth is 8.5 inches. My shelf is 11 inches. So it kind of cuts off space. However, one issue I had with positioning my amiibos, is trying to space them out so each Amiibo could be seen behind the other. The stair case thing eliminates that problem. So I actually think the size is perfect, and will actually fit the same amount of amiibos I have now.

So I'm going to order the 12 inch now.

Sorry, getting a bit emotional. You guys just make me so happy. I don't even know what I could do to express my gratitude and what I feel. Well it's great to have you here!

Ha!

Focusing on WiiU and 3DS Spring titles.

N3DS will 100% be there though.
Pretty sure. But the new3DS has Amiibo connectivity so we might see something involving Amiibos.

I am thinking about sending some of guys Amiibos if you need them (the rare ones, like Marth or Villager). Is there even any need for them anymore? I am living in Germany and we have every Amiibo nearly everywhere so they are not rare here. I just don't know about shipping costs and so on :)

Yeah, most of the figures outside of the commons are near impossible to come across in the US. I've been amiibo hunting for awhile now and have still yet to ever see a Marth, Wii Fit Trainer, or Villager in person. The same goes for the newer ones like Pit and Captain Falcon as well.

I think we will probably never see Villager, Marth or Wii Fit Trainer ever again in North America.

Welp, think I'm about to buy all of the common ones and finally get in on this. Are there any that have quality control problems that are better to buy in person then online?

I don't think most have major problems, but you might want to get Yoshi in person. DK as well.

I just went to see them in person because I nitpick over the smallest details if given the opportunity to do so. Usually most minor differences are things like eyes, ears, and paint blending that is different betwen each, albeit they're very hard to notice if you aren't holding them like a foot from your face.

I heard about Samus having a lean to her sometimes. Is that something that I can see from the package? What is it about Yoshi and DK that may be messed up?

Guess the reason I wanted to get online is to get more reward points back on them though amazon. I'm much the same way as you are, with small things bothering me, so maybe it's better to just not.

Yeah you can tell in-person, not too hard I think.

Get samus in person just so you don't get a leaner. The rest should be ok for the most part. Maybe peach and link so you can pick the "best face".

Right, so I have basically ordered some of the next wave as doubles. If anyone wants one of the spare characters (some doubles I want myself e.g. Mega Man) then I'd be happy to help someone out. UK based, though.

Edit: WTF Zavvi. Where's my Rosalina pre-order gone to!?!

Only two days left until the supposed Toys R Us event! Is it weird that I'm this excited at only basically a rumor of the Captain Falcon and Pit amiibo that day?

DutchGAF:

Wehkamp is doing 3=2 on all amiibo. Their selection is a bit random: from Wave 3 they have all of them listed except Lucario. And from wave 4 they have MegaMan and Sonic.

Just ordered 6 amiibo for €65 :D.

Thanks for sharing! just pre ordered Bowser, Sheik and Rosalina.
Cancelled my order of DK, Samus and Link at Mediamarkt because i have been waiting for over 2 months for them to ship them to me and ordered them at Wehkamp too.

Debating whether I should just spend around £17 on Rosalina from amazon.de, or wait to see if anywhere has her in the UK after release

I see that Tesco and Amazon are doing some of the common ones like Mario, Link, Diddy Kong and Pikachu for £9, I don't have Diddy or Pikachu yet as concentrated on the less common ones, so will pick them up this week
