A peek inside Notch's housewarming party

I was thinking about this post today and realized how much I hate it. It said a lot more about my own insecurities than reality. I'm sorry for being super salty Notch, by my limited knowledge of you seem like a great guy who deserves all of their success.

God, what a hollow existence living the rest of your life surrounded by empty leaches who will never care for you. I always wanted to be super rich, but seeing this and what Notch has become has me afraid of even opening up a savings account. Jesus fucking Christ.

Dang man

I don't think people are being especially salty. Consider that he made a game that has resonance to tons of people, especially kids, which gained him insane wealth. Many people innovate in lots of spaces and aren't rewarded like he was. That stuff is never "fair" in the grand scheme of things.

Of course, good on him for succeeding and enjoying life.

That said, I think some of the disillusionment comes from people seeing a seemingly humble guy just turn into a big joke. He can live his life however he wants. It's my feeling that that amount of wealth enables him to do a lot of good. Maybe he will; maybe he won't. Of course he should enjoy his success, but christ, take a modesty pill. Having some absurdly gluttonous house and being a starfucker just makes me think less of him.

Enjoy your success, of course, but do it with some level of class.

So, in other words, making money is good but don't make too much money?

I always wanted to be super rich, but seeing this and what Notch has become has me afraid of even opening up a savings account. Jesus fucking Christ.

... good luck not having anything when you're retired then.

Hell I hope for Notch that I'm 100% wrong. I sincerely do, and I hope he's happy and feels fulfilled. He's created an amazing game that is a landmark in gaming history, and in my opinion he deserves every cent he's earned and is free to do with it as he pleases but lord, does he realize he's covered himself in seasoned meat and jumped into the fucking lion's den?

If you're so happy for him, why do you give a shit who he invites to his parties?

Pretty much all of the people there are famous in their own right.. how exactly are they leeches?

It's reassuring that after all his high minded talk and at times holier than thou attitude over the years, in the end when he got his money he does what everybody else does.

I actually really loved that in his goodbye letter, when addressing that point, he was honest and just said he really had nothing to say in defense or about it. Money talks, bullshit walks.

Congrats on having no friends?

on the bright side he is still fat as holy hell while i am not so i have that going for me which is nice.

don't ban me i am just being jelly :(

No, that's not what I said. It would be nice to see people who are that fortunate not just aspire to some lame celebrity lifestyle. We all can't live that life, obviously. Hopefully he does some good with all his money.

Or... you know... he can be just a big rich guy who sits on his throne, but it's a nerd throne, so I guess people here are going to fawn over him.

Basically, take away the fact that he's Notch. That's what I'm saying. It would be nice to see some people with that much wealth make an impact on changing our world. But as recent times have shown us, those people would rather horde their wealth and spend on it on bullshit like this. I'm making a larger point about those fortunate enough to have that much wealth.

But they all buy shit with money.

Like. I don't understand what you're trying to say here.

Are you saying Notch should not have bought stuff with the money he made?

I initially disagreed with the statement "Dude is living life to the fullest". I don't believe buying multi-million dollar homes fills your life.

Nothing against Notch, guy is doing what you do when you become insanely rich, but I don't believe it's life fulfilling as the other poster suggested. And I'm sure Notch will go back to programming and making things he loves.

People spend their vast wealth on charities everyday.

So does Notch.

I get what you are saying, but you're stereotyping the shit out of the rich.

Um, but Notch is living life to the fullest. He saw a house he wanted. He took it.

Good for him. Never seen so much hipster in my life. I'm so glad people don't dress like that here.

Pretty sure Selena Gomez is there cuz zedd is there. That being said. He's got good taste in artist. Yay zedd

Yeah Rukes said she was his +1 earlier in the thread

I don't understand why this is important. Aren't there a lot of tech and game industry guys who have it well and own mansions? Why Notch? Why now?

Regardless. Nice house, nice life, he deserves it. I just don't know why everyone is so interested in his private life.

In this day and age, with this much wealth inequality, you're actually thinking I'm stereotyping the rich? Are you serious? If you want to talk about a few outliers, sure. Many rich just use a few charities as a massive tax dodge.

Frankly, what I'm saying is that I'm down with someone enjoying, but doing it in this way is just extremely out of touch with any sort of reality. Can't stop him from doing it, but I can condemn what it represents.

Man...dude can afford an 80 million dollar crib filled with Ferraris, guns, candy and a transformer but still partying in a $30 polo...

Also, where's Jeb? Did he kick the Mojang squad to the curb already?

Why Notch? Have you not been following the story of Mojang at all?

Notch is a goddamn legend in the field of indie gaming. He's made so much money off his one simple-as-frick, lightning-in-a-bottle game that it is of course newsworthy.

This is just a continuation of that thread. There's nothing really special about a guy buying a house, but it's more about the history.

So, I've learned in this thread, that nobody involved in the entertainment business, is moderately famous, or relatively attractive, can ever be a real friend if you're a loser nerd, as there all obviously leeches trying to use you.

Um, but Notch is living life to the fullest. He saw a house he wanted. He took it.

Holy shit, you do realise "living life to the fullest" is an abstract statement and has no literal definition so is dependent on individual interpretation.

And your statement could apply to a thief, so thieves live life to the fullest.

I can tell from this and previous Mojang party threads that Notch is probably someone I wouldn't want to hang out with. Having a logo for a house party is eye rolling.

And Notch's interpretation was "I want this house". His interpretation, when he quit his company, was "quit game development".

And yes, it could. I don't see why that is relevant. Which, again, begs me to ask: what is your point?

If we've both established that living life to the fullest means doing what you want, then what exactly are you trying to say?

What does buying a house and having a party represent exactly? And is it only evil in a high tax bracket or can the middle class be damned for it as well?

This thread is ridiculous. I've never seen so many mental, political and moral gymnastics done in an effort to judge someone's life.

Does other people's success sometime illuminate your own personal failings? Sure. Use that to motivate yourself. Save the salt kids.

It's weird that I'm the socialist who thinks Notch should probably be taxed at 70% of his capital gains, but yet, I'm still on the "eh, whatever" half of this argument.

If I was ever rich I'd live my live comfortably in seclusion with only my family abd close friends. I've never seen the appeal of huge parties like this where you just waste money to entertain people you neither now and who don't care for you.

But if this is what he wants, great for him. It's his money after all

I accidentally bumped into Selena Gomez at Knott's Scary Farm one time, and then immediately got yelled at by one of her security guards. I had the hugest crush on her at the time and didn't even realize what was happening until a minute later when my friends explained it to me. I missed my chance, guys.

Notch donated massive amounts during SGDQ. I wonder why he didn't donate for AGDQ this year though hmmm..anyway not sure what the deal is judging him. Its his money, he can do what he wants with it there are no set rules as to how you spend your money. He doesn't have to donate to any charity either.

You are seriously judging a person that you've never spoken to before? Sounds more like jealously.

This is why celebrities hang out with celebrities. They are the only people guaranteed not to leech of each other. Id bet celebrities feel much more comfortable around other celebrities, because no one else can relate to their life experiences. And hell if everyone is a millionaire its not like someone is trying to sell them on an investment.

He was one of the first people to donate to AGDQ. $10,000.
