Rare shares a new peek at Everwild…

Yeah. It's one thing to be critical of a game trailer that features enough details about a character to form a decent opinion of the type of character they are going to be...

It's another to go 'It's a black woman! This is bound to be terrible!'.

I know what you want Kacho, big bulky muscular white men

I haven't really been keeping up with this game. Is it like a monster collector or something?
No one knows because the initial pitch was girls, diversity and nature. The creative director peaced out. Whatever it ends up being it will be more beta slop gaming from the dying DEI era.

is it really a crime for having a black female with STRAIGHT hair? why every single black female have curly hairs only?

Like I said, If you refuse to see patterns and pretend they're not there suddenly, thats on you.

Maybe because I'm not white I see them more obviously. Either way, at the end, it's the consumers that make the decision. Our opinions don't matter. It's the buyers who chose.

Again, explain to me the "patterns" you're seeing in the photo in the OP of this thread.

Remember that games that are coming out today and for the next couple of years were planned during the height of ESG-DEI buzz, from 2018-2022

I would hope so, RARE released over 100 games before joining Microsoft so one would think sales would be higher. Lets be real but, their largest seller ever was Goldeneye around 8 million, the majority of their titles where under a million while SoT alone is at 40 million players now.

It's a huge success, rares biggest to date people can't argue that even if someone likes Banjo more. Fingers crossed with this game cooking so long they learned the lesson from SoT. SoT after being fixed was perfection for gaming with friends when didn't feel like sweating.

Who cares though? SoT is as exciting as Fortnite to many. That is, on an enthusiast forum, nobody cares

id much rather play their n64 output even if it sold less

The argument that game enthusiasts care nothing for multiplayer games is frankly nonsense.

But you already knew this. You've got tons of posts in the Helldivers 2 thread.

It would be nice if Rare threw their loyal fans a bone and gave us a new Banjo or Jet Force Gemini. I know they're a completely different team that wants to focus on new IP that's detached from lofty expectations, but they can miss me with the GAAS and DEI slop.

Supposedly thats MS's call. Dont forget it was one of their reps that said banjo is no longer relevant.

The rare collection is the best we could get i suppose

You watched the reveal trailer with the alien creatures and came away with the impression that the game is based on the real world?

Black lady was in the announcement trailer 4 years ago, but go off.

There's really only one side here with an agenda.

Mental health issue at this point.
Please go back to resetera and don't the let door hit you on your way out thanks.

Regardless of whose fault it is, Rare should be doing a lot more than Sea of Thieves in a six year period. If Banjo is deemed irrelevant then I'm not sure how a half baked idea like Everwilds gets green lit. I'd love to hear how Ybarra/Spencer/Booty were sold on that.

Honest question:

Why do you think so many games are using black women characters so often the last 10 years or so? Like more than half of them has a black woman protagonist and nearly 100% has at least one in a prominent role.

It's just odd to me because there's no way black women represent more than a 1% of people who buy and play games (mobile phones don't count). And i'm very generous with the 1%.

I'm not against gaming catering to minorities but at this level? To the point where the "strong" black female protag is just as overused as the generic white space marine in the recent past? I mean, at least the generic white space marine made more sense business wise since the vast majority of gamers are males.

So, do you really think this is a honest artistic choice in games? You don't think it's weird how this over representation in all media (not just games) is like a pattern?

I never cared about this in the past until it became an obvious pattern. And yes, it bothers me because i know this is not a honest artistic choice but an agenda. And who knows how long it will take for people to trust developers again after the bubble is burst.

James is .. not a good judge of things to put it mildly.

Says the person that's been championing a dying platform made by boneheaded executives for decades that can't figure out how to make timely, quality, exclusive games.

I'll take the L on a single game like Concord but you can take the L on your entire platform of choice

At this point they should just re-name it Foreverwild, leave it in development hell, and move on to something worthwhile.

I think this is a reach.

It's a black woman and a purple tree. I'm pretty vocal regarding ideological forced content but this is just nothing. Unless Rare has a history of it that I'm not aware of, this is punching at shadows.

I can't think of a single game that came out this month with a black woman protagonist. Not sure how you came to the conclusion that you did.

But it doesn't though, it stars whatever character you create in an open world.

As a white guy, I disagree with this stance. But I would prefer the gameplay and story outshines DEI shit. It doesn't matter race and creed, so long as the game is compelling and good. But they make it so obvious these days and are literally rubbing this shit in people's faces. No politics is what I would prefer. But also, I find it funny that you see a lot of black, female and gay protagonists these days. It's almost as if Latino, Italian, African, Hawaiian, and various other people don't seem to matter as much. Hell, when was the last Samoan title made?

Pretty sure a latino girl is getting top billing in a gta game. Thats as big as it gets.
But yes, I would like to see more varied mc then the usual white, black and asian.

Happy holidays, Rare! Glad they are still keeping this game alive. Is it even the same game at this point?

I will not engage in culture wars. I will not engage in culture wars. I will not engage in culture wars. I will not engage in culture wars. I will not engage in culture wars

This is a hardcore forum that plays cinematic, handholdy games. Full of brain dead puzzles, simplistic level design so player doesn't get lost in maze like levels.

Meanwhile Sea of Thieves and Fortnite are games for casuals. 😂😂

This thread is delivering.

I guess I'm curious as to why people would want 50-60 year old people developing their games.
There are young people making great games but don't underestimate having some serious experience.
The old ones usually end up in studio head positions so not sure how often they contribute on the creative side. But Aonuma directed Tears of the Kingdom at the age of 60. Kojima directed Death Stranding at the age of 56 and is directing Death Stranding 2 as a 61 year old. Nicolas Doucet is the creative mind behind this year's Astro Bot, 51 years old. Miyazaki (Elden Ring) is 50 and I assume he's not done making games yet. There are many many more examples.

When RARE was great.

Collectathon cancer with a boring move set

Worse than Tropical Freeze

terrible performance, basically unplayable in its original version. needed a remaster or PC emulation to actually be good.

mediocre with clunky controls

trash compared to japanese fighting games of the time

I didnt follow this game. Been so long I forgot about it. All I remember is it was bright and cartoony.

But you guys are saying the character was always Black? But the video Fess just posted showed someone with white hair character who definitely does not look Black in 2019. But then another trailer has a Black woman. So looks like it flip flopped at some point in 2020 and remained the same since.
The white haired character is also in this "postcard", close to the tree. We know close to nothing of this game ( frankly, I'm afraid Rare does too), so, I really don't understand the presumption that just because they showed a human model is " the protagonist" , much less any related controversies

Many are jumping to conclusions that this is another "woke" game. I believe that is a little unfair, but it just proves the PTSD that modern gamers have after years of the woke stuff ruining games.
