Next Xbone Rare game leaked via Notch's party?

I hope he keeps making weird stuff, no matter where.

And I thought he couldn't drive, definitely hope those cars are getting used.

Don't know if I should be happy or worried about Notch. I sometimes get the impression that he's lost his passion and makes up for it with extravagant stuff. I hope he'll be able to handle the wealth and find true happiness.

This is so awesome. Great to see anyone from our industry reaching this kind of success and the house looks insane.

No, that's not what I said. It would be nice to see people who are that fortunate not just aspire to some lame celebrity lifestyle. We all can't live that life, obviously. Hopefully he does some good with all his money.

Or... you know... he can be just a big rich guy who sits on his throne, but it's a nerd throne, so I guess people here are going to fawn over him.

Basically, take away the fact that he's Notch. That's what I'm saying. It would be nice to see some people with that much wealth make an impact on changing our world. But as recent times have shown us, those people would rather horde their wealth and spend on it on bullshit like this. I'm making a larger point about those fortunate enough to have that much wealth.

There are quite a few super rich people who do a lot for humanity. Warren Buffet, Bill Gates and even guys like Richard Branson and Elon Musk who try to push Space Exploration out of their pocket.
And who says that Notch is not going to put $$$ into good things in the future?

Those are the oultliers I talked about in a previous post. Well aware of what they do. Maybe Notch will do something more useful with his money, and that would be great to see.

Either way, it's amusing to see the groupies of unfettered capitalism waving the flag in this thread. Keep reaching for that brass ring, boys.

Your rhetorical style guarantees that people will argue against you even though virtually everyone in the thread probably agrees that absurdly rich people should use some of their inconceivable wealth to work on serious problems.

And it's a little early to make pronouncements about whether Notch is upholding his moral obligations as a super rich guy. He's 35.

I get why people are having such a strong reaction to this party - it's a vivid example of another reality - and it's easy to (mistakenly) conclude that it says a ton about his character. But he's just a guy who had a successful venture, bought a new house, and is having a party. It's just on a scale we cannot relate to.

Why Notch? Have you not been following the story of Mojang at all?

Notch is a goddamn legend in the field of indie gaming. He's made so much money off his one simple-as-frick, lightning-in-a-bottle game that it is of course newsworthy.

This is just a continuation of that thread. There's nothing really special about a guy buying a house, but it's more about the history.
a few people making hundreds of millions (to the point of billions) of off software is pretty much the modern tech industry

If I had that kind of money I would build some sort of fantasy fortress and a throne that floats thanks to the Meissner effect...

This thread is hillarious though.

He overpaid for the house for sure, but it's still amazing. The party looks like they had fun, toe sucking and all.

Wish there were more coke and hooker pics.

Notch must never have fun. I know what is best for Notch, and this isn't it. Personally, If I was Notch, I would give this up and go back to developing Minecraft and allow nerds to send passive aggressive thrreats when he doesn't include yellow snow in the Christmas patch.

This guy must slay some epic amounts of pussy.

*dead*

I did not say this. The reason you're responding to me is because I said buying a multi-million dollar home is not living life to the fullest, so no I do not believe doing what you want is living life to the fullest.

I don't know why you have such an issue with my sentiment? Buddhists view shedding yourself of all worldly possessions as the only way to understand the true meaning of life. All I'm saying is I personally don't put buying excessively expensive things as life filling.

It's great you have an opinion about money. How does this relate to the current topic, though, if you're not actually addressing it but a random user's post?

He's always expressed having a bit of "culture shock" at the sheer amount of money he's made.

Let's be clear - "rich" doesn't begin to describe Notch's wealth. Think of almost any celebrity you can.

Shaquille O'Neal? David Beckham? He's richer than them.

LeBron James? Michael Jordan? Tiger Woods? Floyd Mayweather? He's richer than them.

Jack Nicholson? Elton John? Beyoncé? He's richer than them.

Michael Jackson's estate? Jay-Z? John Lennon? Dr Dre? Madonna? He's richer than them.

Paul McCartney? JK Rowling? Steven Spielberg? He's richer than them.

Notch has more money than he knows what to do with. Even this mega mansion he bought is like... 2.5% of his wealth, tops.

A party like this? It's like.... buying a gumball for you or me.

Man, that's crazy! Can't even wrap my mind around it. It's like watching an episode of Cosmos and trying to find your significance in it all. LOL

The guy has made literally billions. This house cost him, if I remember correctly, about $20 million.

You and I look at 20 million as more money then we will ever see in several lifetimes, because it is. However, when you have even, let's say 1 billion dollars, that 20 million is only 1/50th of your total supply of money. Unless he decides he needs an equivalent home in every state of the US, he's not going to run out of money anytime soon.

He still has PLENTY left over to use on charitable donations, improving the lives of others, even more sweet cars, refills for the candy machine, buying other businesses, helping out the family and friends that got him where he is today.

Yes it's a crazy house, but it's so far within his means that it's even less significant than you or I buying a $100,000 home (which would be a bargain). He can enjoy it and not be criticized for all the things he could have done with that much money!

EDIT: OK so it was $70 Million. It's still less than 10% Of my 1 billion example and still an amount that would leave 970,000,000 "do whatever the hell you want with me" dollars in the bank account.

I don't have a problem with his success, I admire his success.

What I have a problem with is him selling his IP to a company that is in direct competition with the Linux community.

I assure you we will NOT see any further Linux development from Microsoft; at least not on any official basis.

I always wonder how do these things work. Does Notch just send invitations to the management of these celebrities? Does he know all these people personally? Do people get to claim a spot on a celebritylist?

This guy on the right looks familiar... Who is that guy. Martin Garrix?

Yep, it is Garrix.

I wouldn't quite compare it to a gumball, but I've always wondered what happens when a few billion dollars are transacted? I mean, what kind of account do you have to keep that kind of money in to be able to write checks, etc. to fund these things? You don't just keep $2bn in a checking account at Citibank and write checks against it....do you? Do you split it up into x number of $250k accounts to keep FDIC insured status? How was the money even transferred to him? Wealth at that scale is certainly something I'm fascinated with...

I always wonder the same damn thing.

Maybe there are accounts that are federally insured that come with some kind of annual cost so you can keep more money in them.

Or, he just bought a billion dollars worth of gold coins and keeps it in a tall tower with a huge dollar sign on the side of it.

he is rich.

but he is still small fry, anyone on the top 10 billionaires list has between 30 and 80 times more money than him.

If he cares he can still feel very poor. His accountant would advise him he is too poor to build himself a super yacht that would outdo Ellison from oracle, to take just one example.

You put the majority of it offshore to avoid paying taxes.
