Zelda fans - are you really expecting Zelda U this year?

I'm thinking that they can pull it off. At least, I hope so. Zelda U's release is pretty much the only thing holding me back from buying a Wii U.

Nintendo can't afford for this game to miss 2015, and they've known as much since they laid eyes on their sales numbers in January of 2013. They will get it done, especially with the Xenoblade team all but wrapped up with X and able to help them to brute force it.

They pulled of Smash and will pull of this as well.

No idea where this new assumption comes that all their major games get delayed.

Nope. And to be completely honest, I'd be shocked if it wasn't delayed to the point in which it launchs with Nintendo's next system. Hell, they did it before.

Not really. I also starting to have doubts about Star Fox because we have seen nothing from it.
I want to believe Nintendo, but 2015 seems to be a pretty dry spell.
They pulled of Smash and will pull of this as well.
Mainly because Sakurai pushed himself and the team beyond normal development cycles to get both games out. Plus we also saw way more of Smash 10 months before release than Zelda.

The reason we think this is because Donkey Kong and Xenoblade X both got delayed.

but I feel like there are too many traditional Zelda elements that Nintendo will not want to neglect and this will result in additional development time.

They said back in 2013 that they were having an easy time migrating stuff over from the TWWHD engine to the Zelda U engine. Pretty clear they've been working on this since at least the time that game was in development, which means it'll have had about 2.5 years of work - plus the time they were probably working on it in 2012 when they had no other Zelda games to show.

It's like the more Nintendo confirms it's a 2015 game, the more people are obsessed it's a 2016 game.

I think it's more that we are used to zelda games being delayed for huge lengths of times that now if we convince ourselves it will be delayed we won't be mad when it eventually happens.

I don't know why people constantly question release dates (or year in these cases) after multiple confirmations. I've seen this with Zelda U, Xenoblade, Uncharted 4, and Persona 5.

Well I think when it's a game has so little information that's been released and it's "supposed" to come out during a certain year (with no specific timeframe in mind) people tend to wonder how far along it really is and if it will be ready by that time.

Also it's funny you mention Xenoblade, since that game got delayed to 2015 after initially being planned for a 2014 release. I remember around this time last year i debated with someone that xenoblade x (just "x" at the time) may not necessarily come out in 2014 and he said pretty much the same argument about people questioning release dates. It's the nature of game development and large scale software development in general. You have target deadlines but things come up that may or may not force a company to push it's deadlines back a bit.

They had some problems during the start of the gen with Pikmin and whatnot, so maybe that's it? But they seem to have a good handle on things right now. So yeah, I don't really expect a delay.

Exactly. I was quite surprised Xenoblade X got a set April 29th release date last week. I suppose it's just a perception thing, most games get such a super marketing machine these days (look at Type 0 HD for example, so many trailers) that it feels strange when we have games that are hardly shown talking about 2015 releases.

There's been enough evidence for me to take the rational side and say that they'll make it by 2015, BUT, there is still some weird, tiny part of me that says this is going to get delayed. I can't deny it.

Probably not, but they usually release Zelda titles around November, so if they waited until holiday 2016, that is a long freaking wait.

My problem with this topic is that people are saying that "it feels too early" when really we have no clue how long it's been in development. The only fact that we do have is that this game has been in development since prior to Wind Waker HD's development.

How is that, plus recent statements from developers, not enough to inspire confidence? Nintendo isn't going to give us a blowout on details prior to E3.

So how does it "feel too early?" ALBW and SM3DW were two major EAD titles that had very little info on them until a few months before release. So, the lack of footage shouldn't dissuade people from believing.

Plus, we already know that this much of the game world is already rendered:

So unless you have some reason to believe that everything has just been smoke and mirrors thus far, I really don't know where people are coming from.

Look at how "quickly" Xenoblade Chronicles X is being developed. Chances are, that game is larger than Zelda. And Zelda may have been in development longer and likely has a far larger budget as well.

certainly, they've said so far too many times...i suspect people will still think it won't come out right up to the point it hits stores/is delivered by post men

I remember back in 2010 Iwata said in an interview that the new Wii Zelda game will definitely release in that year. It got delayed a year til Fall 2011.

Still can't believe though we still don't know the real name for the title, nor have we seen a story trailer.

Because it's not coming until November. When did ALBW get a subtitle and story trailer?

Edit: A Link Between Worlds was officially unveiled on April 17, 2013 and came out that November. The European and North American broadcasts did not provide the game's subtitle, only referring to it tentatively as The Legend of Zelda.

Guys, chill the eff out. We are in January. The game is coming this year.

I don't think it will be delayed. But I want it to get delayed. I want them to cram as many things as they can and polish that game until it is the most perfect game ever conceived.

It will be a release game for the next console in 2016, with better graphics.

And even if they'd be dumb enough to make another batch of conservative, separated home- and handheld consoles, you'll still at the very least see a new Nintendo handheld next year with the power to run Zelda U, plus a cross platform release.

I think it had one when it was announced. The wait wasn't as overkill though.

Edit: It didn't! At least it was released Holiday 2013 as promised though.

For now it's a 2015 title. It's announced as such, so I expect it to come out this year. That doesn't mean it's not likely it could be delayed, but I can complain about that if it happens.

Dunno where people started getting this idea that it'll be delayed.

IF ZELDA U GETS DELAYED OUT OF 2015 I'LL SUCK EVERY DICK HERE.

It'll absolutely hit this year.

If it doesn't, you guys can change my avatar to whatever you wish.

QUOTE ME ON IT.

Bookmarked.

I remember the game being announced as a sequel to A Link to the Past before ever getting it's actual name. could be wrong. also ALBW was announced and released in the same year so that did make the wait seem a lot better.

Nah, I'm actually not expecting it to come out this year.
A lot of it is due to EAD3's inexperience with HD development, the WiiU's dreadful situation, Zelda's past development history (gotta upend those tea tables), and the fact that we haven't really seen anything substantial.

Except, the Wii U 's situation is why they need it out, the "inexperience with HD development" was said years ago now, and they NEVER show anything substantial until a month or so before hand. So that leaves at best 1/4 of your argument remotely tied to reality rather then being based on truthness,

I feel Xenoblade will get delayed to early next year due to translating and Zelda will release for holiday.

I'm actually feeling the opposite. They've mentioned localization is well under way for Xenoblade so I think that will hit NA release before the end of the year and Zelda will get bumped into next year. I know they've said 2015 several times for Zelda, but we know they're not afraid of delaying a title if it needs it, especially one at this scope.

I think it will be delayed to 2016. They have Xeno and Star Fox for the holidays

yeah those two games would not be anywhere close to the same as having a Zelda game for the holidays and Nintendo knows that. I'd bet Xenoblade, originally a 2014 title, would get pushed to 2016 before Zelda ever would.

I think it's a possibility, but they could also release both in a holiday season. But isn't the usual AC team the one doing Splatoon?

I think if they can get that all out around the same time it'd be great for sales, assuming the AC game would be on Wii U. But yeah, the Splatoon team is the one that makes Animal Crossing, so it is pretty unlikely.

I hope you are right. However Zelda usually has a history of delays hasn't it?

Nintendo's one of the strictest and most autonomous companies in the industry when it comes to development schedules. Zelda U will be out this year.

Zelda will be out this year. I dont see why we need so much information available before the release of the game. They are going to have some kind of blow-out at E3 as well as 1 or 2 Directs later this year. That's good enough

The E3 videos/coverage will determine whether you buy the game or skip it. Not an additional dungeon, town, animal, or person.

You have never been through a console Zelda release cycle then

I'm 50 50 at this point. To be honest Skyward Sword had more information about it out 1.5 years out than this game does

I would rather they delay the game into 2016 because I really would be pissed if they skimp on content with the size of that world.
