Final Fantasy XV - Taipei Game Show 2015

WTH is Square Enix doing with those cats and dogs? Concentrate on the core gameplay! They have enough difficulties completing a project already! Talk about poor focus and management.
They already have cats modelled & animated for the game, so it's not like they did all of this just so that they could goof around. Seems like they've just made some rudimentary way of controlling them so that they could go around the game world a bit more unrestricted than as a human character yet still somewhat more tied/grounded to the world than some flying camera which probably gives a bit better a feel for the environments they are creating.

A train station already looks huge... how big is this world going to be? O.o They're really putting all their efforts in this Final Fantasy. It's amazing how ambitious the scale is going to be.
It's not surprising that they are putting some effort into making these big, detailed train stations considering they seem to be one way of more quickly travelling the world and they even have some story events that take place in trains (& possibly the stations), so they have some importance in the game.

In comparison, after the FFVsXIII team had helped finish FFXIII, it only took a year for Nomura to have the January 2011 trailer to show (made by a relatively small team) and the game world was fully traversable in Fall 2011.

I always wonder if and what they kept of those world assets.
I can't believe they scrapped it all with the rebranding.

I've been wondering that myself sometimes. I'm not sure if they kept too much of the environments if they were made with PS3's capabilities in mind, though some smaller assets like the gas station seem to have survived.

So good

"everything was Uncharted"

These cats and dogs videos make me wonder whether Noctis and crew would get turned into cats and dogs (ala FF: 4 Warriors of Light) sometime in the story. I think it's time to bring back spells like Mini, Frog and Piggy.

Tabata and Co in their office at SE :

"We can watch this at 16 k 120 fps 1000xMSAA while those fools rejoice at an offscreen Gif ohohoho"

"We'll tease them with a breathtaking five second animation of Noctis on a train in a snow storm... once they're suitably intrigued we cut to two minutes of a cat walking over some pipes huhuhuhuhu~."

Good lord them animations during the train scene......he is actually shaking because he is freezing, it feels HUMAN *0*

The cat is cool though, but honestly, they can't be getting animals that level of animation just for show......I bet we will be able to control animals in some way in the final game. It could have its own features (the cat going through the pipes towards some treasure unreachable for Noctis or to get the bigger picture, using animals to reach secret and unique areas) and it could be pretty amazing.

Animations in general are the most excelling department as of right now, along with music, but that one was duh with Yoko Shimomura being in charge.

IF that is Lucis station it would make sense, as they are in massive content creation stage. Still, everything aside animations looks pretty early. I will NOT get my hopes back for a late 2015/early 2016 release, I prefer being negative and getting surprised for the better than getting my hopes crushed xD

You know I wonder what Nomura thinks about this situation, a time when FFXV is finally being shown and people are really excited. Makes me wonder if this game becomes successful and Tabata becomes a top director in the genre how would that make him feel? Shit I would be bitter and each passing day Nomura's contributions are slowly being forgotten quite sad.. I wish there's a indepth story as to what happen that led to the change , I would pay money for that.

Nevertheless I'm hyped for this game and Tabata is doing a great job.

Yeah, I don't feel like Nomura has no future at SE, but it's really sad how he seems to have been thrown under the bus when he's been there as long as Kitase. I think if anything, he's probably just not going to want to deal with FF anymore. I got the impression that Nomura was grooming Osaka team to take the wheel since KH2. After being restricted by Disney before and the FF brand more recently, I think he would just want to be separate from all that shit. It seemed like some of the leadership on FFXV that originally worked on KH was replaced by people who handled Type-0, and Nomura's mentioned having a lot of unannounced projects, so I'm thinking he might be working on a new IP while Osaka team takes over for KH.

Anyway, the project still seems to be in capable hands. Tabata is the only other person at SE I'd want handling this(Ito would need to start with a blank slate), so if Nomura can still advance as a director, I'd be more comfortable with how things worked out.

No, the fact they are pushing forward with new info and footage almost every week.

All the new infos they have been releasing are just a confirmation that the game is not ready. If this game is going to release this year I expect to see a completely done train station, not a work in progress.

The only part that seems to be 100% done is the demo part.

And why, exactly, would Tabata trashtalk Nomura? Tabata owes a lot to Nomura. Nomura himself is responsible for giving Tabata his first chance with directing Before Crisis, after which he moved on to direct Crisis Core (collaborating with Nomura again) and then got to develop Type-0 (another game with Nomura).

Very few of FFVsXIII's problems came from inside the project itself (other than the game being a huge project and huge projects always have their fair share of problems to solve even in best case scenarios) and were caused more by company-wide issues, which delayed the production of what would be a massive production in the first place. First SQEX had the Crystal Tools problems that forced the Versus team to create their own custom tools since CT was wholly inadequate for what they were aiming for, then FFXIII was in trouble so the FFVsXIII team had to help with that for ~a year, then FFXIV1.0 came out and was a huge clusterfuck that put the whole company into chaos for many years. All of these were completely unrelated to FFVsXIII's development, yet had a pretty big impact on how its development could even advance.

In comparison, after the FFVsXIII team had helped finish FFXIII, it only took a year for Nomura to have the January 2011 trailer to show (made by a relatively small team) and the game world was fully traversable in Fall 2011. So the project did advance at a pretty steady pace while in Nomura's care when they didn't have stuff bogging them down. The game just was so late in entering full production + problems with XIV were hogging development resources + in the end the game they were developing was somewhat constrained by the hardware they were working on + the murmur about next-gen consoles started around that time, so they made the decision to ditch the PS3 version, at which point it seems they brought in Tabata to head the "next-gen version", probably partly to force Nomura to focus on Kingdom Hearts III more than he could have if he was still directing FFXV at the busiest time of its development.
You sure are taking a joke post pretty damn seriously friend.

But yep can't wait for Tabata to cut a promo trashing Nomura.

Absolutely stunning. So that part with the ice is a controllable cinematic sequence? Looks very impressive. The train station is massive. This game could be a treat.

I always wonder if and what they kept of those world assets.
I can't believe they scrapped it all with the rebranding.

I'm under the impression that they scrapped a lot of it. It looks like they're currently rebuilding all the fields and cities from what I can see of the tech demo videos. Some of the main assets probably remained the same from back then (main characters, important buildings from Lucis, etc.). Of course, those would have to have been upgraded but it would take less work than remodeling them, I assume.

I cannot wait to see how XV turns out, on the other hand I don't know how well SquareEnix can handle such a big project, considering the disastrous management of the previous 3 FF main line titles.
And this footage is still very rough, probably not gonna be a 2015 release.

It will be 2016. March seems like the month they love to release FF games.

It might be revealed at the end of the demo.
