Yeah, but you aren't suddenly losing a certain amount of moves between them. It's hard to describe the problem other than Melee allows a lot more freedom then recent Smash games.

Basically imagine you played SF 2 and 3 with HK, MK, LK, HP, MP, LP that you could use at almost anytime then SF4 came out and said, in this situation you can only use, HP, LK, in this situation you can only use MP, HK, in this situation you can only use LP, HP. Wouldn't that ruin the game for you?
You sound someone who has clearly never played Alpha 3. Street Fighter changes a lot, dude.

I just play Smash casually but can still immediately feel and understand the difference when playing Smash 4 and Project M back to back.

Like Smash 4 doubles finished any earlier though (but again that was TOs being stupid and making everything Bo5!)

My point was to tell him to shut up in nicer words because every thing is running hours behind from other things running hours behind.

Actually hope Dabuz makes it to Grand Finals just to see if he can take Zero out by running away.

Yeah, EVERYTHING ran late as fucking hell. They're definitely at some fault here though for switching over to best of 5 earlier than they should have/planned, as well as the excessive coaching and downtime between a lot of the earlier matches. I mostly only care about Smash 4, and even I'm finding this is going on waaaaay too long. Probably doesn't help that I found a lot of the pool and top 16 play more interesting, but yeah this is pretty silly.

See once they start pulling more edge-fighting, the match suddenly feels a lot more exciting. I actually enjoyed watching that turnaround.

Primarily it just saddens me how much vitriol gets thrown back and forth between members of what should be the same community.

I like how I tried to explain it the best I could, but you just said, "nah man, you don't know."

Alrighty then.

You just didn't want to understand. Now I know.
Only one SF game in history has had a combination of multi-strength supers, access to multiple supers at once (instead of picking 1), custom combos, air blocking, guard meters, and guard cancels. In fact, none of those things have been system-wide mechanics in a mainline SF since SFA3. SF3 was stripped down in number of mechanics in comparison, but the parry system makes it completely unlike any other SF at a tactical or strategic level. And SF4 plays like neither of those games at all.

Saying that Melee players have no other Smash game to go to because of the vast differences between games is valid by itself, but also saying that the differences between SF games "aren't that big" and that "non-Smash players just don't understand that" shows a huge amount of ignorance on your part.

I'm getting ready to just give up, the lack of sleep is finally catching up to me.

You're making an irrelevant point. Things running late? No shit. I just said I want to compare how long the actual top 8's will take.

That's really the worst part of it all. Such a great community (as shown the first day of Apex) yet sometimes there's so much hate.

Yup, as someone who has never really played Melee (but have watched it casually from time to time and at Evo etc) but actively play and enjoy Smash 4 it honestly makes me not even want to play the game. The outside perception of the Smash community being very hostile between sub-communities/games is very sadly spot on.

Also yeah I'm out at this point. Gonna go back later and watch the Smash 4 pools that I missed, but this top 8 has been a total buzzkill for quite a lot of reasons, and wasn't what I was hoping for at all for it's first big tournament. Sadface.
