tbh i don't find smash 4 interesting to watch. Its not that I want it to be melee2.0 (I don't even play smash like that), its just something about smash 4 isn't fun to watch. But I'm not going to boo it off. People thought CVS2 and KOF98 were slow as shit but I loved them.

Smash 4 just needs to more regulations when it comes to games in a set, coaching, and handwarmers.

Honestly the game is only a couple of months old and most of the characters haven't been explored yet. I imagine after Mewtwo comes out there will be another patch and the metagame will evolve yet again. By next year's Apex, Smash 4 games will likely be completely different.

It's true, but I've got to say it really goes both ways, with lots of people desprespecting Melee and its fans as well: on both sides there's people not even trying to understand the others.

Most of the times it's a shitfest all around.

Yeah, the people that see it one sided are part of the problem. (cue the people that thought Melee should be cut, haha.)

At Smash events I've never disrespected a non-melee Smash.

People just really want it to happen and we know Nintendo has an HD remake coming. (At least we did a month ago, not sure if that turned out to be just a rumor.)

I don't get why people are pushing Melee HD so hard, just give it a servicable downloadable or cheap retail port so that tourney users don't have to use 10 year old consoles, that's all they need, making it HD doesn't really do shit to it when the only thing you see in melee is a bright blue hexagon.

Match length in particular is what gets to me when it comes to every Smash game.

Individual matches that last longer than 5 minutes are virtually unheard of in other fighting games; an 8-minute standard for Smash is just nutty in comparison.

Well the problem is, is that what you want to be the general rule for all fighting games? What if a new gundam (the arcade one) takes just as long?

I don't really have a problem with time length simply because you can adjust a stream schedule around it. In the end it just means less matches being stream due to time constraints which I feel is a good compromise.

CVS2 can get pretty long but not this long with handwarmers, coaching, and all that included.

That won't change the amount of time handwarmers, coaching and games in a set though. Adjust the game rules on the meta. It happened in Mvc3. MvC3 used to be 2/3 until people realized 3/5 was just as long as a 2/3 set in sf4. Also didn't rules get created and adjusted to fit the meta in smash? Im pretty sure it has but I could be wrong

Yeah, I hope so.Don't think Smash 4 will ever be for me on a competitive level, but I'd like to see Smash 4 survive 3 to 4 years.

Sm4sh and Melee are both terrible, the most hype matches in this entire tourney were in Smash64 top 8.

Those Yoshi and Pikachu combos, man.

You can just tell that smash 4 with customs at a competitive level would be insane

Smash 4 with customs will take forever to take off because of how asinine unlocking all of them is. They're also pretty broken half the time imo...but sometimes broken is fun. Customdorf ruined Ganondorf for me in Smash 4 because its just so much better.

Shit, those were the best. Seriously loved Wizzrobe and Taco's Yoshi plays. Pikachu got a little tired but the Jiggs rests were also insanely good.

its not just unlocking but its also the time to adjust customs after every round if somebody wants to do it. It also means extra time to "hand warm" that custom set.

i sincerly hope the community finds some kind of middle line when it comes to these games and the vitriol from both sides stop :/

Personally I think this would go away if Nintendo released a Melee mode in Smash 4 and it had the same online features as Smash 4 standard. Melee mode For Glosy etc.

Right now the community has to do everything themselves. Knowing Nintendo is behind the Melee scene just as much as the Smash 4 scene would really create a bridge for the communities to stand alongside one another.

I think that's all it takes. Since Melee grew this scene on it's own I think their's some hostility with Smash 4 just jumping on the scene Melee grew. If both games were available on modern consoles they could coexist.

Would love to see that happen.

How are you supposed to set it up then? That sort of match length is unheard of in other fighting games...but Smash is totally unlike other, more traditional-styled fighting games as it is, so how can we say it's supposed to adhere to similar length. It's like saying a baseball game and a basketball game should last the same amount of time. The only other way to fix it would be to bump up the knockback scaling so that you can kill at lower percents, but at that point they'd probably just up the stock-count, hah, not to mention that would cut down on the offstage game, which it seems like they've wanted to make more of am emphasis in Smash 4. The floatier physics, new edge mechanics, and large number of characters with long-distance recoveries play to that as well.

As Smash 4 continues to develop, that's what I really hope we see, an increase in the chase and intercept game, because I think those aerial duels can be just as exciting as any of the fast technical stuff that everyone who prefers Melee are so impressed with.

I'm glad the Smash fans are proving the smash man baby stereotype worldwide by spoon flinging their toxicity at each other with a righteous complex.

Looks like only the old men who play Smash64 have any respect these days.
Kappa DAMN YOU WIZZZYYYYYYY
