Bloodborne gameplay : The first 18 minutes

Is it really ridiculous to expect my games to not be full of jaggies? I mean come on, some of those places look REALLY awful.

The only place where I was even noticing it was the extremely dark starting area. The game looks fucking fantastic otherwise.
I'm far too invested in these games to get hung up on a few shimmering edges.

Why? Clean looking console games exist. Or at least, cleaner than this mess.

Why can't it? Infamous had better IQ than this, didn't it? That game wasn't perfect either but I'm pretty sure it looked better than this.

Yes, the game has aliasing problems. But its a FROM game. I expected technical issues (and still do like FPS problems). If that's a deal breaker, then you probably want to stay away from Bloodborne. Its not a good answer, but if aliasing is a deal-killer, I doubt this game's final build will appease you.

Opened the video, skipped to 5 minutes in, watched about 2 minutes, closed the video.

Yep, that's all I need to see for now!

The level geometry is pretty amazing. Art direction in general looks great. I don't really care about the jaggies, I'm more concerned about the game maintaining 30fps. I played through Demon's and Dark just fine on PS3, but big frame drops DO impact the playability. This looks reasonably smooth... I guess we'll have to wait until release to really know.

The Witcher and Bloodborne are both big niche games, wasn't DS1 released around Skyrim? Didn't really have an impact then.
You mean that people that did like Skyrim didn't like DS and the otherway?
It may be that.
In fact I know no one who did like both games. May I readed some thread long ago with this question.

It's not a deal breaker, but it deserves to be criticized. Heavily.

No dealbreaker at all, but I agree with the people mentioning the AA.

Stop buying console games for the next decade or so.

There are plenty of clean looking games. This is just FS setting other priorities and/or being bad at optimization. You really do not have to explain to people consoles have a set limit hardwarewise, but this game does not look all that hot for the PS4 to be honest.

That said, I hope they fix it (not expecting it, though).

When someone says The Order is expected to be the minimum standard going forward -- yes, you really do need to explain to them the basic principles of hardware limitations.

This is the same area I and others have played at conventions, except with different time of day. It didn't have the cutscenes and some extra passages like here, but you could change character classes. I was hoping they'd show a build with a better framerate as this is the same 24fps I played many months ago.
...There's no persistent blood and damage on your character?

How is that not a given for a game with action and gore like this.... What that does for games like Sleeping Dogs or Dragon Age INQ's fighting is far more important than anti-aliasing, lighting, etc. Persistent blood at the least should be standard for any violent action game by now. Any chance it's just missing from this build? Or I somehow missed it?

There is, man.

Do you folks know if pyromancy/sorcery/miracles/hexes are in the game? I love playing as pyromancer. I am so used to playing Souls game with shield. Dodging is going to be interesting.

Doesn't really hold up. I know loads of people who like both. I think the case is that they both appealed to the niche fantasy gamer (though Skyrim has its foot in the water of many different demographics), a hardcore audience willing to spend money on multiple games within a short time frame.

Do we know what the bonfires are in this game? Are there any?

The hunters dream lamp which sends the player back to the dream refuge looks like the bonfires

Maybe magic comes out of this

Complaining about the graphics in a souls game is hilarious to me.
All three games haven't been graphical power houses.
All three games were frikin awesome. I will take some jaggies for the gameplay experience a souls games

There's hints that magic will be present in some form, the latest indication
being some of the stats seen on the menu in this footage
. How exactly is still unknown.

Should I watch or should I not watch? UGHHHHHHHHHH

Souls games have special into levels. I wouldn't want that spoiled personally.

Thanks tho OP.

Nah, by now I know better than to spoil myself on the intro of any game I'm excited about.

I watched the first 3 seconds and then closed it.I cant stand this

someone make some gifs at least i dont want the start spoiled

Y'all soft. I'm excited for this game. Been playing since
Demon's Souls. Still watched. Game looks incredible.

Why torture yourself?
Mah man.

Okay, I've folded and started watching. My reasoning was 'Would I be bothered if Northern Undead Asylum/Firelink Shrine/Undead Burg was ruined for me' and my answer was no.

Game looks effing incredible. How can people be bothered by some jaggies when such a great looking game is on show? The brilliant VA, amazing environment/character and enemy design.

Ahh! Cannot wait.

Much thanks to Milkham, iRAWR and Firewalker (the Hawkmoon thief) and Mescalito for helping me and my buddy get caught up on our Crota/Atheon kills. You da real MvPs :").

Seriously, none of you needed them, but you helped out. That's why this community is my jam.

lol you're welcome

My point was the Souls series have a smallish but dedicated fanbase that will buy it no matter what game release around it. Also I liked both DS and Skyrim, guess that means I'm special.

Pretty much. Despite looking rough it's still clearly a big leap from their last gen output, I'm fine with it.

Love the setting and the combat seems successfully more intense. Seems interesting. Wish he would have taken the cane sword and listened to the woman tho. Shotgun carrying seems a bit silly.

C'est la vie tho ~~

Considering that's what we have to work with, yes. Why should a game be immune from criticism before it's done? If anything, that's the best time to give feedback.

There seems to be certain series (Souls, Zelda, Smash Bros) where if you express criticism, many will choose to "fight" your criticism. I imagine it's because people think you're "shitting" on their favorite thing, and that you lack good faith. At worst, you'll be described as toxic, the current buzzword for negativity.

It's a losing battle. You mention a problem, people scoff. The problem becomes fixed, people scoff at you as a disbeliever. The problem isn't fixed, people still scoff at you as demanding too much.

Except if the user puts lofty expectations on what games should be able to achieve just a year or so into the console's lifetime. Especially from developers who have a history of focusing on gameplay over graphics in the last three releases.

Feel free to criticize the graphics of any game, don't say "X" should be standard from here on out....it is unreasonable.

it's always funny when people complain about a fromsoft game lacking AA or having a dodgy framerate like they're supposed to be technical wizards now.

guys, when demon souls shipped it was so unoptimized they had to DISABLE SHADOWS just to make it playable. like, there's no one saying you can't be critical, but be realistic with your expectations. that goes for the people saying "just wait for the final build! it'll get better!" it probably won't.

Does anyone know if the enemies can hit one another? Like if I'm doing a boss fight with two bosses can one hit the other?

Haha, I love the Souls series, but I don't think it's lofty to expect AA solutions from Fromsoft, who clearly are doing quite well financially, and have more power to work with.

Obviously it's a matter of priorities in the development, but if someone feels that the priority should have been invested a bit more elsewhere, that's fair. You don't claim immunity to tech improvements in a competitive market that's increasingly demanding tech improvements.
