No, they are not. Perhaps not as bad as last year, but nowhere near Mercedes. The first pre-season test is always a bad indicator of speed. As someone else ha said in the thread, we probably won't even know until qualifying in Melbourne.

No-one is going to be anywhere near Mercedes. It's going to be a battle for the best of the rest.

I just put money on Raikkonen for a win this year, and at a stretch... the WDC (I know, lol).

28/1 and 66/1 respectively. C'mon Ferrari. This is the year. Pls.

Good Luck! Here is something to support your decision:

In the last 20 years, every time a multiple WDC left Ferrari, Kimi won the next WDC. ;-)

Niki knows how to deal with tabloids, that is true :D

What Lewis said about Ferrari pace (at 3:00 mark)

Ferrari mega insider Turrini reports on his blog that Ferrari are over one second per lap behind Mercedes, but if they figure something radical about their car and come into one second gap to Mercedes, they can catch silver team during season.*

* if Mercedes will wait for them

Lewis looked remarkably flat.

Wonder whether its the break yp or he was just burned bored from doing test laps.

Probably tired, 100+ laps in less than 8 hours is quite exhausting, even in colder weather. Imagine that mileage in Bahrain :O

Why the Honda engine is loud?

The answer to this question is: Only Honda used IHI turbocharger. The charger works basically like a silencer for the combustion engine, and apparently allowed the IHI turbocharger little more sound distribution.

The exhaust design is unlike any other engine, the embedding into the back of the McLaren is as extreme as in any other car. In addition, the Japanese motor is designed for a speed of 12,000 / min and not on those 10,500 / min, which were scarcely exceeded by most engine manufacturers in the past year.

The nice thing is: there is still much more. McLaren engineer Matt Morris reveals: "The engine is not yet running at full load."

According to the BBC they were running the engine at 50% which means once they turn the wick up it will melt.

Honda expects the Melbourne spec to have 920bhp

That 920bhp figure is from Marca I believe? I would take that with a massive pinch of salt.

However the BBC info from sources 'close to McLaren' that the engine was running mst of the last day at 50% is VERY interesting, it was obviously turned down (they said so themselves) but I guessed it was running at about 70%, anything close to 50 would be mental. I mean the car was a LOT slower but if they really were running on just half power that would put them right up there with the Mec engines.

My gut feeling is the McLaren, when they sort out the reliability (which might not even be until next season) is a beast.

They had a run on Wednesday where the McLaren was clocked at only 4km/h slower than the Mercedes down the straight.

If that was running with the engine turned down to anything around 70%, or even 50%, then yeah. That thing will be fine once they iron out the issues. It's all down to the chassis integration and whether they've actually made a step forward for once.

For sure it's BS, the article says Mercedes also have 920bhp, so what's Hammer know or heard? Is this an accurate ballpark figure for the Merc?

I was at filming yesterday, I can confirm it's correct.

He even stood on the table to celebrate!

Everyone goes on about Honda because of the Honda / Mclaren relationship of the past when they were succesful, but Honda was in F1 until recently and were going absolutely nowhere and its rarely mentioned, maybe because it was so lacklustre people forgot they were even there. Even last year with the best available Merc engine the Mclaren was a complete dud. Now a new chasis and a totally unproven, mostly in the garage Honda unit and people are expecting so e miracle.

I fail to see how Mclaren are going to have a massive turn around for this year.

Also why is it that last year the cars had what, 600hp and now they are jumping 300+ hp, what was the rule change that lead to that?

Hopium feels good.

Mercedes will probably win every race anyways.

It is going to be tough for sure.

Against all the Mercedes engines on the grid now that have been in development since Schumacher was still racing, they definitely have a lot of ground to make up, especially now those Mercedes engines will have matured significantly after a season of running on multiple teams chassis.

They are many many steps behind.

However, if they've been watching and learning, and if McLaren were competent enough at gathering info on the workings of the 2014 power units and how to get them working fast and reliably, it may not be so tough for Honda to make strides in the next few seasons.

But yeah. Not going to be easy.

Time to get hype guys ?
No, Merc is sandbagging like a motherfucker. They didnt just stand still while everyone else got better. I expect the gap between Merc and the rest to have been reduced, but the gap will still be there.
Im interested to see how Ferrari competes with RBR. How smug would Seb feel to be in a superior car to Ricciardo.

Just a minor technicality ヽ༽ຈل͜ຈ༼ノ

Technicality being not a single piece of Honda was used.

Anyway, Merc I think still have the best turbo design. Running the turbo in a split housing configuration with the exhaust compressor to the rear and then through a shaft that drives the front intake compressor is a very good idea, splitting the heat from the exhaust chamber and intake chambers. I am surprised no one else has yet jumped on that.

When? In 2009 when Honda pulled the plug and were no longer even involved after it became Brawn GP and moved to a different motor?
It was Honda's championship. The car was designed when Honda were still around and would have been developed further if Brawn had not run out of money.

Just read an article that Nicole broke up with Lewis again.

Rosberg WDC 2015
Lauda isn't Whitmarsh. I can honestly see Lauda grabbing Lewis, smacking him across the face and telling him to get his shit together and then taking Lewis to a strip club to get beyond the Nicole situation.

lol, Lewis and elderly fan attend strip club.

Looking forward to seeing the German "racing god" in press conferences seated lowed on the podium than his teammate.

Kinda feel bad for Alonso.

alonso fans are gonna be happy if kimi outperforms vettel at least

You're probably right. At most we'll probably get a few sad tweets.

I really don't care about their relationship, but I'm wondering. Does the music world or rather Scherzinger fans care as much about Lewis as the F1 fans care about Nicole?

Doubtful, music artists tend to benefit from painful break ups as they draw inspiration from it, thus more music which the fans lap up.

Ha, I had to google her. I had no idea she was American. I guess I remember the pussycat dolls but I don't think I have ever heard her name mentioned or seen her on TV, radio, really any medium outside F1. I thought she was British and was big there or elsewhere in Europe but not in the US, which would explain why I never hear anything about her.

Keep in mind I rarely watch TV so that could explain it.
