Testing times mean nothing, testing times mean nothing, repeat after me...

Didn't somebody post a quote stating that Mercedes has been running with full tanks the entire time?

If Ferrari suddenly gets good, can we at least agree that Alonso has never really proven he's the legendary driver people make him out to be?

It's going to take more than Ferrari finally pulling their thumb out of their arse to discredit what Alonso has done with shit heaps for 5 years.

Or were they?

There is probably no driver that can win races (except the occasional freak race) in cars that are genuine shitboxes. The impression that past Ferraris have been crap cars must have primarily come from Ferrari's ambitious self-understanding and the rather bad performance of Alonso's teammates. Conversely, nobody calls the Red Bull RB8 a shitbox just because Webber finished 6th in the WDC.

Massas performances likely reflected the real status and performance of ferraris cars relative to the competition just like Eddie Irvines performances reflected where ferrari would have finished without Schumacher

yes or how Webbers perfomance reflected....I don't think I'm going to finish that sentence....

LOL

So 4 days of testing and 4 times Ferrari powered cars were 1-2. That is not suspicious. At all :D

I await Omiie's return
Im still here. There is just nothing to cheer about. We had some awesome races last year but i had mixed feelings about being on the other side. Obviously it was shit to see vettels performances and car failures but i was funny to see how it must have felt for some of you when he was dominating. Still love watching old season reviews of the 09-13 seasons. Hate the fact that he is at ferrari which is forcing me to cheer for them. I jused to hate ferrari during the mika and kimi days at mclaren.

Great first test for Marc. They collected a lot of data. Nico got a ton of miles in. I don't worry about the times. The Merc is still going to be the best engine on the grid. I'm more interested in how this car treats these new tires. Also, I hope the team can be more consistent on pit stops. I notice no one has really talked about it, but it's a pretty big deal. The inconsistency is unfair to both drivers because it sabotages their efforts on track. They've both had issues, so I hope it's straight.

When is the next test? PEACE.

Best times of the four days of testing. McLaren surelly needs to work hard for the next test:

times have improved, and it looks like the Honda is quicker than he Renault at the same point in it's life...

Teams were extra cautious last year in Jerez with brand new, untested engines

It is logical step forward this year

Looking like Honda might not be as bad as expected, then, though I still think the Mclaren exclusivity will hamper them development-wise.

How so, they can only make so many changes anyway, data gathering may be harder with less teams, but in a single environment you know down to the last mm means your info is always reliable against your model, rather than several different variables out of your control.

Newey says that Renault needs to deliver more 60 BHP, or else, Red Bull won't be able to fight the Mercs.

Honda pumping 130 million into McLaren this season.

900 pop horses in the stable, worked with Mobil 1 to reduce cooling requirements, innovative ers.

McLaren say they were running in gimp mode, achieved what they wanted during this test, know their true pace and can sleep peacefully at night.

It wasn't a deficit. The car was just more aero focused.

The Renault was less powerful than the Mercedes engine. Horner was even complaining about it. The key was RedBull had blown diffusers worked out and the mappings worked out before anyone else so were well ahead of the curve.

Exactly. Renault was down on power in 2008, still a little bit in 2009, but since 2010 they were more or less on the same level as other engines, but of course their unit was fantastic for exhaust blowing.

It will be interesting to see if they make the grid next year. I have serious doubts but we'll see...

I would put money on Haas not only making the grid for 2016, but being a regular points scorer by 2018. Provided the regulations don't go nuts again.

So, is Ferrari actually going to be good this year?

I haven't kept up as much with the technical side of the sport as normal, but I've seen them put up good times in Jerez the last few years only to lack the speed to compete.

No solid info, just basing it off Caterham, Marussia, Force India, and Lotus' money/development issues. I am hoping for the best but not the most optimistic.

I hope so, past new teams don't paint a good picture for newer teams though.

No, they are not. Perhaps not as bad as last year, but nowhere near Mercedes. The first pre-season test is always a bad indicator of speed. As someone else ha said in the thread, we probably won't even know until qualifying in Melbourne.
