Grow Home |OT| Updated with New Content [18th Feb]

It's a small project by 8 or so Ubisoft folks from the studio - Reflections (the guys that used to make Driver).

Thanks for the info. I think the game looks really swell, but I am trying to figure out whether to support it due to it being a small team within Ubisoft or to refuse to make an exception to my moratorium on buying Ubisoft games after the events of last year.

I think the fact that it doesn't have uPlay is the thing pushing me over the edge to make an exception for this game. It really does look swell... any reviews from GAFers or outlets on how it turned out?

The animation stuff is what got me hawt on the game.

It's probably more beneficial to support Ubisoft's free-range games than to swear off of them completely. For the developers' sakes if nobody elses.

I'm going to get it because of the uPlay exception and small team. I figure at least I can send a message I don't want no damn uPlay, so maybe some small good in the process.

Downloading now.

This game is awesome! It's like a janky shadow of the colossus where you grow your own colossus.

Just played it for around an hour and a half. It's great fun! The procedural animations provide plenty of unintentional comedy, but despite that the controls are precise. Having gotten used to Rockstar's momentum-based characters, the physics are pretty easy to understand. The day/night cycles are astounding. This is basically an artsy, easy-going climbing simulator. Your trigger fingers will certainly get a flexing.

Only complaint is that I wish there were more camera options. Being able to free-look with the camera would really help when it comes to exploring the gorgeous locations.

The pricing works for me, literally the same cost as a sandwich, and lasts longer too.

What swell fucking game, so relaxing. It's like Journey meets Pikman in it's tone. So cool really hope more poeple play it.

Also I made a sheepish friend.

Definitely interested as this looks quite beautiful but the OP recommended using a controller and I only have a Dual Shock imitation pad on hand (no analog sticks; so basically an imitation PSX controller). Do you guys think the game would be playable using that? Or does the game require analog sticks?

Suppose I could just use the keyboard but I was hoping the pad would work.

Having played with both, I actually prefer mouse and keyboard. Alternating left and right mouse feels more intuitive and faster than the triggers IMO

But yeah, I think you'd need analog sticks to play the game with a controller

Just got the last crystal collectible and unlocks
INFINITE THRUSTERS!!
Now I just need to find the last
of 8 seeds.

I like that there seems to be some Mario-like treasure hunting/collecting and the world is hand-crafted. Gonna try it out later

I highly, highly recommend this game to anyone who loves something quirky and out there. The procedural animations are amazing, and I really hope they are utilised in other Ubisoft titles. The art is gobsmackingly beautiful, so many easy wallpaper opportunities and I'd even go so far as getting a poster from one.

I'm going to pick it up soon at some point for sure, to send Ubi a message that I want more non-Uplay games. Plus it looks really cool and fun.

All their smaller stuff shouldn't use it, it's a shame Child of Light was shackled to it.

I'm guessing this is on the short side considering it's $7? Keep in mind that I like to collect stuff.

I am not the only one who got an achievement for finding the bird in the cave, and then throwing it off the island... right?

For what its worth, it fell and then landed unharmed in mid-air.

I have to say this is probably the best $7 game I've ever bought that wasn't on sale, the game and exploration is extremely addictive and the game itself looks fantastic.

missing
one seed
and I can't find it anywhere
I've found
1 on the comets, 1 on the floating island where the teleporter is below the comets, 2 on the big floating island, 1 on the starting island, 1 on a floating island with lots of small floating rocks, forgot where I've found one of the seeds

game is legit. i hope its a success for them and they can build on it.

p.s. riding stalks into the sunset is epic.

I've played for 3 hours and I love it.

Simple mechanics but fun and gorgeous places. I would recommend to play it with a controller, it's way more convenient than a keyboard/mouse.

I LOVE the look of this, i'm such a sucker for lowpoly stuff.
And i might also like the quirky gameplay... Really wish they'd release it on consoles as well, i'll buy it in a heartbeat.

Might want to add to the OT that it's Windows-only, for those that see Steam+Unity and assume there would be OS X and Linux versions available.

So wait, a sandbox 3D platformer climbing to the biggest megaheights in a game ever with the cutest walk animations ever, and I haven't bought this yet?!

Watched those Gamersyde videos (especially #2 and #3) and was completely sold.

Bought and now made a gif of the animations, SO CUTE!

The movement animations are procedural, which is why everything Bud does is so strange. It works very well though, but you can move him into some rather amusing positions when he is climbing around. The look of Bud and his face seem to match his crazy moves really well.

I'm guessing this is on the short side considering it's $7? Keep in mind that I like to collect stuff.

100 crystals to collect and a whole host of strange areas to look through, along with collecting other things later on, power ups and growing the Star Plant to reach where ever you want (collecting height?!), as well as perhaps even collecting the achievements or animals should you wish - all of this may suit your collection compulsions :P

There's one
@ the 3rd teleporter stuck inside the cactus
. That's the one that I couldn't find for ages.

Any idea on how long the game is?
I'm excited to play this, but I'm already neck deep in a couple other games right now and low on cash so I'll probably wait for a sale.

now that's just plain evil, nearly impossible to see during daytime

took me a little more than 4 hours to find everything, minus one collectible

Looks like my 100% run is going to end around three and a half to four hours.

Thanks for the info, I'll definitely wait until it's a little cheaper in that case.

I was at 3.5hrs and 50% the way through collectibles and game wise, but I am at the other end of the spectrum, with most of my time spent casually exploring and just messing around with everything

What is with cute games having creepy deaths? Here's me dragging a sheep into water lol:

Even the jumping can look different each time cause of the animation.

Also I love the gaining of momentum if you jump one after (BUD makes different noises) the other kinda like Mario 64 but without the backflips.

Played around an hour or so. Game is awesome in a way I can't quite explain, it certainly has to do with the game mechanics and the vertical exploring.

I got 100% with just over 5 hours of gameplay it seems (all Crystals and
Star Seeds
). There's stuff to do after you finish the game so that adds an extra hour or two. Finding the last few crystals can be annoying, so whenever you hear their sounds just pick them up asap.

Getting to the mushroom island rock can be quite intense if you're not careful with the L-R climbing: http://youtu.be/3XvJWa1EAfw

Noticed that BUD is limbless like Rayman lol

Climbing around reminds me of foddy's GIRP

I've just come across rock bits that can fall off if you touch them, damn now you can't just L-R everywhere. Giving me dem MI 2 feels.

Bought on a whim and just played a half hour; really delightful and clever game. Oddly relaxing which is great.
