Dear Kanye, please fall off of my face. Signed ... Some dude

Kanye is childish, immature, egotistical but I fail to see where he is racist. None of the examples you used show Kanye to be racist. And you have problems if you want him to disappear because you don't like him.

kanye-taylor-swift.jpg

That has to be fake. Kanye is incapable of smiling.

I respect Kanye's talents as a producer and I enjoy all of his solo albums, but the guy is an egotistical maniac. It's really a shame because he lets his selfish tendencies get in the way.

I can seperate myself from him enough to listen to his music and just completely ignore the guy himself, because his personality is just awful.

It adds to his music.

Don't know why people are so fascinated with plain and polite. Lupe's there for you I guess, lol.
Exactly. Kanye wouldn't be Kanye if he wasn't an arrogant prick.

It's like saying that Andre 3000's flamboyance detracts from his music, when it's an integral part of who he is.

Btw everyone calling Kanye a great producer but dismissing everything else he does, pretty lame imo. He's a visionary first and foremost.

These attention grabbing antics

This is why Kanye West does what he does. Taking the spotlight away from others has become his shtick. Having worked behind-the-scenes at large events, I'm very inclined to believe that his Taylor Swift "I'll let you finish" moment was an orchestrated event by MTV, Taylor Swift, and Kanye West. Manufactured controversy isn't some foreign thing that happens once a year. Every major outlet participates in it. The pursuit of popularity goes down a very disingenuous road.

Personally, I think Kanye West has become an unfunny joke. His music, no matter how well-produced it is, is consistently overshadowed by his constant desire to be on the front page of everything. It's sad because his talent extends beyond the average, but I simply can't support a guy who gets off on upsetting others.

Kanye's antics aren't tolerated by major corporations, and it makes sense. Companies that promote ethical and morally-sound behavior do not want to work with people who promote negativity. It's a shame that Adidas chose to 'embrace' his creativity and desire to make shoes. You can tell a lot about a companies culture by who they do business with.

Well, there's a twist in all of this.

Think about it for a second if trolling during award ceremonies was commonplace and accepted... at least for those that have a certain image to uphold.

Andre isn't a cock though, Kanye is...

From Stealing Chiptunes to Spotlights... fuck off Kanye

It's the persona that people really like. Basically he shifted the game and made it ok to be a melvin/nerd in rap, to not be alpha all the time, to be vulnerable. he sorta buried gangsta rap in that sense. It's his biggest contribution. He also made some fire beats and helped define the sound of Roc-A-Fella.

Yeah, when it comes to the music ppl are fooling themselves a bit. Just Blaze and RZA made pretty similar product to the early albums sonically and everything after 808s is just a bunch of other people's work copy pasted willy nilly together with Kanye's name on it.

Lol he did no such thing.

Only because you can't speak your mind around here without somebody jumpint in and saying you are a racist... Not sure why it is so hard for people to admit that racism exists in all races.

this is the only correct thing you've said this whole thread, unfortunately its almost the most ironic,

long story short, 'Dont start none, wont be none'

I love Kanye's music, he's always putting out interesting stuff but his public self is kind of a piece of shit

This isn't a racial issue moreso than just being a cunt lol

And sometimes it's funny (and in the bush' case agreeable) and other times it's frustrating.

That is Kayne. That is what he is, and you identifying it means he is successful once again.

Plus the first song was about his blessings in his life. Similar to through the wire if i want to group certain songs of his together.

lulz

If Kanye West was white, he'd be the most celebrated artist of all time.

Your opinions...

this looks like one of those Final Fantasy games lionhead always makes

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_albums

I don't see a single Kanye West album in there do I?

How about on a by country basis?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_albums_by_country

Hmm...

Now granted Beck should not have won Album of the Year. His best selling album was in 1994, not this year.

Beyonce should have won. The sales were in her corner and she did it with a silent release.

So the Grammys are sending some mixed message bullshit by saying "We only reward arthouse, not popular albums" when the previous year awards were contrary to that fact for "Album of the year".

He has a legitimate gripe and should be upset. She sold well enough to re-release a Platinum boxset the following year.

Lol he did no such thing.
yes he did.

With the exception of andre 3000, at the time every rap big hitter was a gangster, durags on the head guns on the waist, drug raps. 50 cent, jay, nas, dipset, the game etc.

At the time kanye paved the way in the mainstream for people like cudi, drake, lupe, etc.

I think Kanye is an idiot but he isn't racist. He is this generations David Bowie..... or at least he thinks he is.

I love reading the Twitter comments regarding this Grammy stunt. This one is probably my favorite so far:

QOu9FWa.png

Young ignorance. I can let that fly. Kanye is a millionaire who was around to see Beck when he was just starting out prodigy. I really don't get Beysus though. Like you really don't understand the dig at Beyonce for being a pop vocalist vs. a multi instrumentalist singer songwriter?

Beyoncé had a good suprise album, but nowhere near AOTY. Same goes for Beck. St. Vincent had a better album than both, for instance.

Kanye is a good producer, but his childish antics are too much.

The reason why BEYONCÉ should've won is because of its revolutionary release, coupled with massive hype, critical acclaim and millions of units sold. Who didn't talk about her album during the release?

Why the hell would you want to stealth release an album, with no promo whatsoever?
It was a daring idea. But it worked out for her really well. The whole project is going to have a long-lasting effect on this industry.

Something like that should be rewarded.

Never heard of Beck, but it is easy to see the appeal of Kanye on the most basic of level. He is a rebellion figure who, supposedly, takes no crap from people. This formula has always spoken to youth, and always will.

Kanye has some interesting stuff to say about race. I don't think he hates white people, just frustrated with the racial climate in the US. He's very opinionated and doesn't bite his tongue. I respect him for putting it out there, even in singles like All Falls Down which was honestly some very good social commentary for a modern pop song IMO.

And man, I feel old as hell reading this thread. I remember Beck from when Loser was on MTV and bought his CD in one of those huge 90s boxes.

Indie Music = Artists who talk about the exact same thing as mainstream artists, but because they sound so damn derivative they never blow up. So they created a new genre dubbed "indie music" to make themselves feel better about their inability to garner a sizable fanbase.

Stop this *sobs* my avatar is crying now

Didn't Kanye used to get routine;y accused of being racist against black people because he worked with a bunch of white artists?

Anyways these are all obviously absurd accusations which probably do more to advance racism than diminish it.

Popularity and commercial appeal should have nothing to do with an music award. She released her most artistically daring album to date and that's all that matters.

This can't be a serious post. It really can't. Can it? No. It can't.

Is anybody else tired of living in a society where everything that is said offends somebody?

Racial slurs, or homophobic comments are wrong (period)... but we have to have thicker skin. If I had a dime for everytime I was offended I would be having lunch with Warren Buffet. its so frustrating to cut on tv and be unable to get away from Jonah Hill apologizing, or Justin Bieber videos that are like 5 years old.... or the Donald Sterling chic getting beat up... oh and by the way... I have to say this... that girl is not really that hot to begin with.
I think it's great for Sam and the NFL.... But seriously?..
There really is no need to show a guy drafted after the first round on tv......overkill.
No, but people (including us) are talking about it, and people are declaring the man a racist, asshole, redneck.... Whatever just because they don't agree with him. Who are we to judge the man? What makes us any better? I don't agree with him, but who really cares what I think.
At first glance I thought it was one of the members from Wutang Clan.
Hello Kanye, I am the face of the fucking earth! Please fall off of me!
As a white man... I have no guilt what so ever. Why should I feel guilty for something I had no control over? You can't change history , you can only learn from it. In time ... Our society will learn to accept each other as people and not by our skin color.

I know this sounds mean ... But it's the truth.
While I am sad to see someone die from something like this.. I also believe that we do not know the whole story. Was this guy acting a certain way with the gun? Did the cops ask him to put it down and he now listen to them...

Too many questions and not enough answers.
It seems as if these people have been protesting for days/ weeks/ months...

Serious question.... Do they not have jobs!
I am going to play devils advocate here and simply say:

Get back to work!
It amazes me that people make it in the world largely due to hard work and determination... only to say stupid shit like this. Money can make you stupid. Akon needs to understand

a) he is a fucking singer/ rapper (whatever that shit he does is called)
b) it is not wise to bite the hand that feeds you

Dude is the next Chris Tucker.... talented as hell, gets money and forgets where he comes from.... cant pay taxes and bankrupt
Saying that word is wrong... however I have to say this...

if the word is deemed unneccesary/ hateful and wrong then it should be for all and not a particular race or races...

If you are a rapper and you use that work openly in your music and kids buy your music... dont be suprised when the word is used... PERIOD.

Otherwise to me this is a dead conversation. I know he used KKK references as well... but again... he is/ was a kid when this was done.

Here is my suggestion... get a boat (one of Jay Z's yachts will do). Put Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, Donald Sterling, Kim K, Kanye West, Jay Z, Beyonce's sister and every member of TMZ and the poparazzi ... on it... take it 100 miles out to sea and sink that son of a bitch!

Then maybe we can hear real news when we cut the tv on.

Beck has more talent in his discarded toenail clippings than Kanye has in his whole body.

I like Beck, but comments like this make me SMH.

You don't have to like the guy, but denying Kanye has talent is ridiculous.

MBDTF is a masterpiece. College Dropout and Late Registration are incredible. Even 808s has its redeemable parts.

Plus he's a helluva producer.

Popularity and commercial appeal should have nothing to do with an music award. She released her most artistically daring album to date and that's all that matters.

My thing is, above all Beyoncé is a R&B artist and she was the only women and only R&B album to be nominated.. Yet lost to a folk album. I'm sorry but that's the biggest bull of it all. Folk won already two years ago and Rap, R&B and Hip Hop are still treated as second class citizens. Even Sam Smith Soulful album was dissed. It's really just annoying. No matter how cohesive an album is, if it's R&B.. It's never going to win. That's it.

Excuse the ignorance, because I do not really follow Beyonce, but what was so revolutionary about her album release? Why was it a game changer for the music industry?

I love Kanye. He's clearly a big softie with a tough guy persona, but it works so well in getting people all riled up over absolutely nothing. As long as it keeps working, why wouldn't he keep doing it?

But they right, a lot of the music industry and all of the retail stores were mad at Beyonce for showing them the game done changed.

Well by all means, give her the Game Done Changed award then. Just don't manufacture bullshit reasons to give an album an award it doesn't deserve.

Is op mad kanye sang?

He doesn't have to rap.

Where's the racism?

"Only one " is beautiful

Growing up listening to Rakim, krs, nwa, 2pac etc I love what kanye does.

Yup, my tag is awesome. I made the post completely knowing what I said as I was trolling a Fable thread. Not even sure what your wiki links have to do with anything. It's cute though.

I do see Eminem tho.

That's why the term "Pull a Beyonce" is now cemented in popular culture.

Well by all means, give her the Game Done Changed award then. Just don't manufacture bullshit reasons to give an album an award it doesn't deserve.

A Grammy Award (originally called Gramophone Award), or Grammy, is an accolade by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) of the United States to recognize outstanding achievement in the music industry.

Beyonce is already a massively successful artist who gets commercial and critical success that most artists would dream of. Am I really supposed to feel sorry that she didn't win this one particular grammy, even though she has boatloads already? Are phony awards really the endpoint of being a muscian? I would rather have a dozen fans who actually care about the music that I put out than recieve a grammy at a ceremony that no one will give a shit about in a few weeks. Are the grammy's of all things worth unnecessarily shitting on artists you otherwise wouldn't even mention just because they had the gall of getting an awards instead of your favourite artist?

Whatever, this is neogaf, 90% of music discussion is just insults and hyperbolic nonsense anyway.

Edit: Yeah, also Beyonce wasn't really the first person to do the surprise release thing either.

I disagree. As in, personally, I don't see how his idiocy adds to his music. He's a great musician, a great artist, a great producer. He could be all of that and not the blowhard he is. I get having "swag" or whatever in songs (sort of), but TBH his attitude is really a turn off to his art for a lot of people. It will alienate at best, and at worst perpetuate some unsavory thoughts.

Don't listen to Lupe, but I'm thinking more of ATB or Kaskade. I never hear them saying stupid shit, and they're amazing. If they started talking shit and I found out, it'd diminish my views of them as well.
if his attitude turns you off from the art then that's entirely on you. This is like respectability politics. Kanye is egotistical. Big whoop
