I look forward to you telling us there is no message in that song.

I guess it also depends tho, if my ends low
Second they get up you gon get that Benzo
Tint the windows, ride around the city and let ya friends know (Hey Mama)

Tell your job you gotta fake em out
Since you brought me in this world, let me take you out
To a restaurant, upper echelon
Imma get you a jag, whatever else you want
Just tell me what kind of S-Type Donda West like?
Tell me the perfect color so I make it just right
It don't gotta be Mother's Day, or your birthday
For me to just call and say (Hey Mama)

It's a song of appreciation for his mom, I get it. That's very nice. And then he caps the song off with talking about a car he's gonna buy for her. His flow is weak.

Kanye calls Beck's artistic integrity in to question, quite undeservedly so
- people say Kanye is a shit artist, also undeserved

OP calls Kanye racist for perceived racial slights
- people say OP is racist for calling those perceived racial slights racist

A lot of douchiness coming full circle here.

Aaannnddd....we're done.

The Grammys are bullshit but not because of your reasons. Most people who would be qualified to even vote for Grammys know who Beck is.

If you feel the Grammys are bullshit for other reasons, thats fine. But I wonder about the voting sometimes......but more than just for the Grammys, but that seems to always be the blatant example.

I mean that as serious as a heart attack, most people DO NOT know who Beck is.

Ask the average person on the street, and no, they don't know who Beck is.

I KNOW who Beck is. you'll need a better point than that.....

Was this album getting any radio play? Were any of the tracks selling well? Did it get any critical acclaim beyond the other nominees? Those, and other similar metrics, are the only ways that currently come to mind to even measure if people heard his music (I invite you to list some more), and I'm willing to bet it fails all these tests compared to any number of artists who could have won. That's why NO ONE expected him to win. It makes no sense for him to have won.

It didn't get a lot of radio play but it was well reviewed and sold pretty well. Beck has had 5 or 6 albums debut in the top 10 and the rest in the top 20. He's fairly well known.

OKay....I don't know. I guess I just can't comment on how popular he is, because most I know listen to him. So it's hard to see outside the bubble, but I still feel like he is more than nobody. The dude's had 12 albums, and was in an episode of Futurama. Of course, I'll give in Beyoncé is much more popular. But it all comes back to my question what's most important for Album of the Year. Popularity or quality?

These things shouldn't be popularity contests in the first place. It should be whoever voting thinks put out the best album. Not which album was most popular. Those are two different things, unless for some reason you equate popularity with best. Which is a silly thing to do as there are probably hundreds if not thousands of albums you'd be missing out on because you think that unless everyone is already talking about them they're not worth listening to.

Usually people call the Grammys a joke because of how limited their pool of artists are and how so much of the music industry isn't even acknowledged when considering nominees. But for some reason you WANT them to be giving away an award based on popularity.

Ray Negan is a piece of shit... but Bush did a better job than him? Fuckouttahere.

Also, you ain't slick. Tryin'a absolve Bush of blame, and put it on the Black dude...

WTF are you talking about? I am talking about a racist comment that was made by Kanye West. If that same comment was made by a white person or a Latino person towards Obama.... then it would be considered racist.

I would say so... of course Bush doesn't have people backing him saying otherwise like Kanye does.

Because no one with a brain would consider what Bush and his administration did after Katrina acceptable. Seriously, though, what's wrong with you?

If Kanye West was white, he'd be the most celebrated artist of all time.

Also, I don't mean to dog pile, but this post is ridiculously stupid.

Only because you can't speak your mind around here without somebody jumpint in and saying you are a racist... Not sure why it is so hard for people to admit that racism exists in all races.

When "racism" is discussed, it's typically in the context of a system created (by whites) to keep other races oppressed for their own advantage.

In addition your three examples of "racism" were, again, a song lyric, a criticism of Bush that has been basically backed and corroborated, and a racist practice that white hip-hop artists still do.

You're reaching.

I was using his comment about Bush to say that he has made racist comments in the past. plain and simple...

Not to get off topic any more... But I dont think too many people in power could have done a better job in that situation, to be honest.
A number of factors come in to play as to why.

"Racism" against whites in America means nothing, there is no power behind it. Come on, I'm sure you understand the concept of institutionalized racism.

What are you gonna say next? "If black people can say the n-word I should be able to too!" This is like angry suburban dad bingo.

You are right... he said nothing wrong. He has done nothing wrong.... Please.

I think Kanye is a massive douche and his recent music is total garbage compared to his older work (Only One is especially awful) but racist? I dunno about that.

The first thing I thought of when I saw this thread was.. Kanye is probably the only rapper to rant about loving white people wtf

Why does racism against whites mean anything? Racism should not be tolerated period. Why should it have a color attached to it to begin with?

Doesnt matter. It would be considered a racist statement if I said Obama doesnt care about White people. Right or wrong?

So why is ok for Kanye to say it? Because he is black?
Here is a news flash. Katrina killed equally as do most natural disasters. All races suffered.

Short answer...yes.

New Flash, Katrina hit a majority black area, so let's not pretend that 'all races suffered' equally.

Next you're going to tell me cops kill everyone, #AllLivesMatter.

Why does racism against whites mean anything? Racism should not be tolerated period. Why should it have a color attached to it to begin with?

Because the last 300+ years have had color attached to it that led us to this point?

Kanye is the best "pop" artist (however you want to define that) working today, and he's basically running unopposed. His stuff is as good now as it was with the College Dropout and he's unafraid to take big risks. what's not to like?

Clearly quality. But when no one (in comparison) knows....it's just suspect.
