It's almost as if they are going for a specific tone/atmosphere.

lol yeah i got that. Thing is the atmosphere was already great back then.

But looking at other levels they dont seem muted at all so i guess its just for that specific level so im fine with that.

I work in a retail store.
Today boxes with 1886 came in and I picked one up cuz why the hell not.
I'm buying myself a collector's edition so there's no bad intentions.
I really was waiting for a good action game and here it is.
Graphics are not the best of all time perhaps, but they are lovely.
Smooth framerate through all first 3 hours I've beaten. Not any drops what so ever.
What bothers me is that headshots don't blow heads apart. I haven't got my hands
on a 3-barrel shotgun yet, but a standart shotgun did tore off some legs here and there.

Shooting in this game feels so much right to me. And fighting Lycans is so much fun -
I'm glad they didn't just show it everywhere like anyone else would.
So far my expectations are met quite good. It's a beautiful Gears of War clone,
that I enjoy more than any Gears thanks to its realistic yet fictional weapons and mostly
human enemies.

Some things that may bother people are that the game is quite scripted. It doesn't give you as much freedom as say TLOU gave the player. It's closer to the last COD in that regard. Anyway I hope the game scores good scores and sells well.

If anyone interested - my username is my psn account, you can see there are some trophies already as a proof. And if any of you want - I might record some of the footage like firefights and post them later.
Cheers

Considering the setting this colour palette didn't really work. London was smoggy and dirty. It looks too brown and clean here.

Now this is much better. It looks polluted. You can almost smell the filthy air.
Yes RaD fixed the clipping glitch in the final build. Haha I love it :D

Just wondering because I know a lot of it is based on preference... but what would you say has been better?

Artistic choice. No downgrade as far as I can tell. :)

If you post any footage, put it in the spoiler thread unless its completely spoiler free. Posting spoilers in this thread will not end well.

I prefer the top .gif from a cinematography perspective. The fog in the second .gif obscures the platform you're jumping to a bit too much.

backgrounds look too ...backgroundy eh? These screens with well lit streets are
basicly the first level of the game - you have to go through some treets and so on - and background streets and squares looked out of place a bit.

Maybe its the fact that I was playing the game already so overall quality of the game looked too good in comparison.

One nice thing I've noticed - the game has no prerendered cutscenes. No tearing and so on what so ever. And for example the weapons you were using would be present in cutscenes.

--Edit: As I mentioned earlier - no damage to limbs from simple firearms. I love some gore in my games and I suppose TLOU and MaxPayne3 are the best at it - every bullet tore skin apart and left marks and so on. in 1886 its just simple blood splatters on characters. But then again I havent used 3barreled shotty or a sniper rifle just yet.

Fair enough ^_^

The AI is good enemies take cover and actually try to flank you. Its not super advanced but they don't just stand there and wait on you to shoot them like they did at PSX.

May be it's linked to difficulty? I saw 2 videos of the same section and they looked reasonably challenging in one video and brain dead in the other.

Riight. Okay.

So basically the skybox doesnt look as good as the foreground, gotcha.

Played like 3 hours of the game. Enemies do really try to take cover and they act simmilar to TLOU AI, but I can see there are some scripts here and there so the action is going.

And There's been one section where we were defending on the street and rebels just spawned COD-style in corridors in front. That was an action-packed moment, but it really felt too artificial

What difficulty are you on?

What's the best way to get the steelbook for this if I don't want to get into the crazy statues and what have you from the biggest version of the game ? Is there a way to just have the game and steelbook or is this something I'll have to buy separately later ?

I think he is talking about the "latter part of levels," like smaller courtyards or streets you walk through if I am reading him correctly, not the "backgrounds" as in "skyboxes." Hence why he mentions having played the game for awhile and having seen the overal quality in comparison to some parts.

Then again, I could be reading him incorectly.

You need to at least get the collectors edition to get the steelbook, that one is $20 extra I think but it comes with a statue etc.

Just buy the collectors edition and sell the stuff you don't want.

What difficulty are you on?

I believe it's medium.
And it's quite good for beginners I guess - something like 2-3 rifle shots gets you down, 1 shotgun blast and you're almost dead.

It's not that I don't like me some difficulty, but I like beating games on different levels just like TLOU offered.

BTW like the way they did inspecting items - in TLOU imets just flew in midair and here
player holds everything in his hand, revolving it with Lstick.

and I found a plush suckboy in one room :)

There is nothing hyperbolic about saying it is the best looking game. I genuinly think it is the prettiest game I have ever seen. No one is saying it is the most 'technically' advanced game. People are saying it is the most 'beautiful looking' game ever made. There is a difference.

Well it doesn't help much that English is not my native language and I'm Russian.

Yeah, I did mean that building and streets far in the background look like they were the last thing to be done by the team.

Maybe keep an eye out for them online. I know steelbooks usually pop up on ebay after launch and months after.

Relly looking forward to this game. Have the collector's edition preordered but my boss asked if I wanted a copy as a "bonus" for taking on extra work the past 5 months. Not sure if I should cancel my preorder since he'll either get me a copy shipped day 1 or a review copy.

We have already come to terms with that debate. I agreed with Nib95.

NP, GAF has tons of non-native speakers.

What the.....?

No Manchester United banners? Massive pile of rubbish this. Givin this the ole gamefly rental should show them right proper! Bunch of moppets.

Preorder cancelled.

this is an AMERICAN made game, we're not going to plaster it with a bunch of FUUSBALL adverts.

There will be american football in this game like god intended it and that's final.

i'm european, please don't kill me

I'm hoping they have a no hud or limited hud option. Especially if the hud isn't going to placed in the black bars.

The hud being placed in the black bars is the worst idea. When your eyes look at the screen long enough you will eventually filter out the bars. If you have a hud that forces you to look there all the time it would place more emphasis on the bars.
