Kid share plays Destiny to stranger...

Bungie have included this video in their weekly update. They also said that they are looking into how to make these deletions less permanent, but no indication that they will or can restore the kids lost characters.

It's a very tough lesson to learn, but I can think of a lot worse ways to learn not to trust strangers on the internet.

Ooof. Paintful.

But at least there's somewhere to direct his sadness and anger. Memory card corruptions? You just shake your fist at bad luck.

Why would the guy get banned though? The kid willingly gave him access to his account. I mean, he's a total ass, but it's not like he used some exploit to do it.

He did kind of break a verbal contract and abused the power he was given towards a means he was not entitled to.

Just because they give you the keys to the office for you to clean it after work hours does not mean you get to burn everything people leave on the desks, you know.

I'm pretty sure he could even get sued for it.

Saw this yesterday and it's pretty sad. Don't be a dick about it. He's a young child who trusted some strangers cuz they were friends with a friend he was playing with. It was explained by his mom in the Youtube comments.

Can you get banned from Destiny?

yep

Well, he did use the 'exploit' of lying that he knew a method of levelling quickly as a honey pot to get the share play, which maybe could be seen as against the Terms of Service, idk.

I'm feeling a bit depressed today anyway, and the crying at the end of the video pushed me over the edge. Sure, the eleven year old didn't make a great decision, but, first, he's eleven, and, second, the other guy's lying played an important part in this interaction.

Hearing the fact the griefers have been doing this weeks if not months makes me wonder if more will be done now, especially as there is video evidence.

Edit: As for the victim here. There are far worse ways to get scammed. This may be upsetting for now but a very important life lesson will come from this.

But at least there's somewhere to direct his sadness and anger. Memory card corruptions? You just shake your fist at bad luck.
Unless you bought third party in which case that was always to blame.

Those of you who find this hilarious may be mentally damaged. And trying to pass it off as his just deserts shows how thoughtless you are.

I feel like this kid has learned an important life lesson. I feel bad for him, to a degree, but I don't feel terribly for him, as it's just a game. He will learn not to trust another human soul unless given good reason. And he will learn to see all other adult males as potential murder victims.

"He deserved it", says everyone who uses mods to alter their game on PC.

I hope you're not equating trying to exploit in an MMO type game to using mods in SP experiences. Every competent MMO will outright ban if you exploit. That said, I don't think he deserved it and I wish Bungie had a rollback system like most of the big MMOs. But, at worst this is now just a lesson learned.

Weird response, if a pc game is moddable, the devs set it up to be moddable. Even if it is not you usually will be playing a single player game or on private servers. The kid was trying to game the system which is unfair to all the people who try to stay honest and should be banned. This lesson at least allows him to play instead of losing all his characters and not being able to play at all.

I salute you, Deleter Man.

Rough lessons to learn.

I hope he learned 2 things.

Don't let a stranger mess with personal things.

Don't glitch/cheat in online games.

I would never do this to a kid, and it sucks, but this is hardly a "devastating" thing unless your parents have done a horrible job of teaching you some priorities in life by age 11.

My daughter is 7 and lost a big save on her gaming PC with Lego Marvel Superheros. (some screwy thing with cloud saves/steam apparently...not sure) She was very upset at first, but we had a good talk about game saves being trivial and how this sort of thing isn't important in life or the grand scheme of things. It's definitely not something worth crying about and spending time upset over. Games have also given me a great chance at teaching her not to give up, and to suck it up/keep practicing when she loses or dies.

I'd say games are a great way to learn some small life lessons. The little guy will be fine if his parents are worth anything. (I realize they may not be :( )

Damn, alright, that was hilarious, his whole passive aggressive "I didn't really want that weapon" then bursting into tears "Noooo" Oh yea, this is heart break. This is like the heartbreak you need to win the finals in the NBA. Better he learn this lesson through destiny. Imma tell GAF a story, when Halo 2 was the big cheese, peeps used to use 2 months as currency for people to mod/standby them for levels. My clan buddy gave someone his credit card info for currency, and let some modders have "$10" to get him to 50, well those dudes proceeded to charge around $5k in xbox live points while he was on xbox live chat. bringing in other friends and sharing the credit card info. You can't expect the world to be fair, so lessons like these are necessary

That guy was in party chat. He knew he was dealing with a kid. He was also a friend of friends so the kid trusting him wasn't all that strange.

Having said that, kids shouldn't stream and should not play as much. But i might be old fashioned.

But hes lucky to have learnt his lesson like this and not being ripped off irl or worse.

i tweeted the guys at bungie about this I run the @thecryptarch account

essentially this kid thought he was going to get glitches that would earn him "free" exotics

essentially do not trust others with your account and especially don't trust people on the internet asking for your account information for "free" glitches.

PS

going to ask for this guys credit card details I can total glitch free money onto his card...

Good for him..and I don't mean in a HA HA malicious kind of way. He learned a lesson and when you learn a lesson at a young age it tends to stick with you more.In the future , maybe even well into his adult life, if presented with the opportunity to cheat at the very least he'll think twice about it and wonder if this is a good idea or not. He learned that lesson in a very gentle way just losing a character...

Wait. 11-year-old kid playing a T-rated game while being unsupervised, on the Internet, voice chatting with strangers, and recording a video stream that is shared with the public?

As a parent I feel bad for the kid, but why are the parents even allowing this situation to occur?

First thing I thought of too, probably because I have an 8 and 10 year old and would do everything I can to prevent this from happening in the first place.

Man the last time I played PSO, I ventured on to one of the servers notorious for housing hackers, and sure enough, someone turned my maxed out bad sss  HUmar into a short, fat, level 40 FOmar named Bibble. Didn't cry, but I felt like it.

Poor kid.

This is why we should keep an eye on our children.

The kid wasn't harmed, his video game character was deleted for christ sake. These are lessons learned about griefing, controlling your access, and the scum/villainy of the internet. Kids need a dose of reality to grow.

I feel bad for the kid, but that sure as shit won't happen to him again, and guess what, he'll get over it.

Poor kid :(

Cheating should be frowned upon. But the punishment here did not fit the crime... The guy who did that should cop a 2 week ban for that shit.

Some of the people in here are cold hearted as fuck too. Damn.

Holy shit, people who clearly have never played Destiny still continue to put their foot in their mouth here by equating a Destiny to an MMO.

It's cheaper than a baby sitter

I understand it sucks but...it's only a game.

I don't know, it use to suck when I lost progress due to save corruption or accisently overwriting something but I've never really felt like crying over it.

When I was a kid (and now) I guess I had different priorities for my gaming. If I lost all my Destiny shit now I'd probably just quit or start over. It's a game, plenty of other things to do/play.

I was very entertained. Kid was obnoxious at first and a different (better) person by the end of the vid, he needed this.

Now we're comparing arson to deleting a character in a video game? Do you not realize how those things are different?

Shit. This vid actually brought me back to when my memory cards/game boy games would get a corruption error.

Shit used to be heart breaking (pokemon in particular). All that work :(
