Kid share plays Destiny to stranger...

I know this is a big topic now but, was it the mother that posted this video? I saw the profile pic and damn if so.

Yes, you can read an article that explains the events rather well.

What's the psn ids of the guys that deleted the kids characters

Highly recommend reading the article I just posted, it has all the names of the individuals involved.

I feel a little tiny bit bad cuz its a young child.

But once i get past that superficial absurdity I laughed my ass off. He was careless and got burned... it happens. Back when I was running an MMORPG people would share accounts all the time and then be surprised when a "friend" traded away all their gold and gear. Then they would expect us to restore it all.... nope!

Ahh I see. I must be really baked, I totally thought Soupbro was like a forum where people do this stuff. No idea why O.O

Honestly I don't know. I'm pretty sure share play isn't supposed to be used like this however if you give some one access to your ps4 ... I just don't know. I've relayed though exactly what happened.

Yea, tough one since he gave consent to SharePlay.

So many assholes here on GAF.

Seriously, everyone saying he deserved this for cheating (in a quite insignificant way) and saying this is a good way to learn about stranger danger while it isn't. Or that he shouldn't be bothered because it is only a save file even when I got hugely frustrated a week ago when I lost an hour of progress at work.

Oh, and the kid is fucking 11.

I hope that the asshole will get banned for this shit.

And Sony should have added security measures in some way. Why do they allow share play users to delete characters?

Nope I haven't played it. But you're not telling me you spend 100s of hours in the game just to unlock new areas. You do it because it's fun to do. The unlocks are just the carrot that gets you moving.

Um, again--the loot IS the endgame. There really aren't "new areas" to unlock (I know I used that term, but the only "new area" to really unlock is the Raid--everything else is just harder versions or different modes on existing maps. I guess the new expansion content technically counts as new areas to unlock.

At about 20-30 hours of play, you've probably unlocked or played every single map/area in the base game, and probably replayed a lot of them multiple times. The rest of the time, you're replaying the same areas, over and over, hoping for new gear required to level up (it's random--you are rarely guaranteed a certain reward, unless you buy it from a vendor of course).

I absolutely get what you're saying--it should be the journey, not the destination, right? But there is so little content in the game, that the journey and destination overlap or go hand-in-hand. The reason why people love the game, aside from the carrot-loot experience, is the core gameplay is stellar, and best-in-class in some regards.

So true.

I had 150 hours in Destiny before I just stopped, and I guarantee I could still go back and spend another 50 hours grinding for weapons and stuff if I wanted too. ( I don't)

This. It's a weird game that many people have love/hate relationships with.

Really appreciate you looking into it. Also please note that this is not the first time this KirmitTHEfrog individual has enticed another PS4 user to share play in order to abuse the victim's account.

The most disturbing thing is that a 38 years old man did it to a 11 y kid.

The kid payed the price , hope this scum does too.

That's on Bungie.

SharePlay like broadcasting is disabled as soon as you open up the OS menu, so the guest can't access stuff like save games. But in Destiny that's all server side and deleted within the game.

Exactly. It's not an exploit like the loot cave. Also, this kid knows how to use the internet. If the glitch existed he could've tried looking it up by his self. He was too lazy to even put in the effort to cheat to skip the effort. This is like 1st world problems to another level. This is 0th world problems.

hes a fucking KID....

from what I read, it looks as if he was in a party chat with an RL friend and the RL friend invited the other 2 people that were "to be trusted"....and one of the other 2 people were saying and convincing the kid hey "this glitch" blah blah blah....and as a fucking young and malleable kid that he is, he was like ok cool, my friend says your ok, so go ahead.

some of you are acting like he should have had the fucking wisdom. Not everyone has "Street smarts" at 11.

smh

<EDIT> lol Bungie not gonna make it right? I wonder if they are bitter about the fact this scenario involved glitching. Because, I don't see how they COULDN'T make it right. I mean, as if it just wasn't possible. so obviously, it's more of a decision then capability.

That's on Bungie.

It's Sony's platform. They can tell developers "do not allow share play users to delete stuff - or even save the game / overwrite a saved game". They could for example enforce at least a dialog asking the actual user, if he/she is okay with the actions of the share play user. This could be part of game certification.

Sony not allowing such users to access OS menus at least means that someone thought a bit about it. But then they should have thought about in-game actions as well.

No, its on the developer. You dont neuter the system cuz someone was dumb. You teach people to not be dumb.

Dunno, I feel like if Sony and/or Bungie gets involved, you start opening Pandoras box.

For all we know, this could still be fake. Most likely not, but still. I really don't think Sony and Bungie should get involved.

Not like they cannot find out, we all know it isn't fake. You have this occurring with other people too.

No, its on the developer.

It's Sony's platform. They can and do set rules. It's their job to set rules.

Is it even known that there actually is an API for games to check, if the control was given to a share play user? Do you know that? If there isn't, Bungie couldn't have done a thing. If there is, yeah, I would blame them too, but I blame Sony as well. It's their platform. It's their system feature. it's their job to make it secure.

You dont neuter the system cuz someone was dumb. You teach people to not be dumb.

Neuter the system? What's neutering about not allowing share play users to delete characters without asking the actual local user as well? It's called "share play", not "share delete characters".

Sony could have also added an option for people like you that want share play users to do everything. But allowing this per default is almost like granting share play users full control over the local user's PSN account. PSN "friends" are most of the time strangers and not real life - actual - friends. So anyone, who's actually using Sony's feature, is risking stuff like this unless that someone only does it with his/her real-life friends, which I have to doubt. And real life friends can be assholes as well of course. So do you trust anyone at all? Well your fault if anyone fucks you over.

And btw. you are victim blaming. When you are old and get tricked by some stranger and lose a sum of money, maybe you will then think about your own words.

If they don't get involved, then it sends the message that this behavior is without consequence, and knuckleheads will start trolling even more. You already have people here who think this shit was funny. Yeah the onus is on the user to be careful who they share with, but you can't allow malicious behavior go unchecked on your platform.

There is a difference, for me at least, of remembering what it's like to be 11 years old and being the parent of an 11 year old... I think some people have a warped sense of what the emotional sensitivity of 11 year old kids is. As a parent with this perspective, I see first hand how damaging this would be and mean spirited, especially from an adult.

Between this and the Afroman thread I've really lost a lot of respect for GAF lately. Fuck all of y'all with no sympathy for an 11 year old.

If I were Bungie I would restore this kid's characters. Maybe even throw him a Gjallarhorn as well.

If I were Sony I would ban this kermit guy permanently from PSN. And I would set restrictions to share play to not allow these kinds of privileges.

Your lack of basic human compassion is duly noted.

A complete lack of maturity and a desire to appear edgy at all times is a plague which makes the gaming community such a 'joy'.
It's not surprising.
Sadly, it seems to be full of the sort of people who like to loudly boast about 'sociopathic tendencies' because it makes them think they look cool.

I'm pretty okay going with the angle that if your reaction to an 11 year old getting his toys intentionally broken by a 38 year old stranger is "lol," you're at the very least one cold son of a bitch.

This is how I see it. If you think it is funny to break a kid's toy then you have some issues only trained professionals can address.

That's never going to happen. Shareplay is an OS feature. You're asking Sony to require additional coding/testing/etc for all gameplay elements within a game... you're placing far too much of a burden on the devs (and Sony for that matter), and it's impossible to draw anything but arbitrary lines. Can you sell items in an RPG? Can you delete characters? You'd need almost every action 'checked'. And what about a game like Dark Souls, where death 'costs'... obviously, giving over control to another player has inherent risks.

Sony is doing the right thing here. It's a shame that guy was such a jerk. But trying to have 'authorization' checks for anything potentially risky in a game is an absolutely terrible solution at all levels.... and arbitrary, to boot. Shareplay means giving over control of the current game to an outside party. That makes sense, it's straight forward, and it's purely operating system - but yes, it comes with risks if you hand over the controls to a jerk. Your way simply would not be workable.

This is my takeaway as well. I'm really not too concerned with the kid losing some characters on Destiny but between the reddit profile of this Kermit guy, and some of the asshole posts in the thread, it has definitely caused some irritation.

That crying in the video was real upsetting. I know bungie will hook him up though he's probably gonna get something awesome out of this and a lesson learned as well.

I'm partially moved by it for a few reasons.

1. It's sad to legit hear a 11 year old cry

2. when I was playing wow and leading raids and running a guild, and I got off work one day and I logged into my character with all the items and gold gone because I got hacked...... that shit HIT like a ton of a bricks. I knew after the initial shock that "oh, blizz will straighten this out" which they did...but that Initial realization was soul crushing for a few minutes there. I'm an adult. Now for him to get that feeling at age 11 must SUCK so I feel for the kid.

Sure, I don't disagree with that.

But I don't go around judging people and telling them to seek professional help based on their reaction to a kid having its character deleted.

I don't know man, if you think there is nothing wrong in this situation then I'm going to judge you. I'll judge you if you come off as cynical and pretentious by saying things like, "That's how life works, deal with it." A kid shouldn't have to deal with issues like this. Me, sure, but not some 11 year old. That's how people turn 38 and do other fucked up things to people. Let kids keep their innocence.

Also, not because I care about PS4 or Destiny but I think it shows your maturity if you find this type of thing as entertaining (which it sounds like you don't).
