Resident Evil Revelations 2 Reviews Thread

Reviewers pan The Order but give this good reviews?

Yeah, I think I'm officially done with reviews. If there's a game I wanna play I'm just gonna play it and forget this crap. I want to play both Revelations 2 and The Order, so it's all good.
Revelations 1 was a very decent handheld title, if 2 is better then it deserves good reviews, and for $25 it may as well be more value than The Order :P

Crazy if some didn't enjoy Revelations 1... that was a fantastic game. I get RE6 though...

It's not really crazy. I like both games, but I liked Resident Evil 6 more as I got more actual enjoyment out of it both gameplay and content wise. They're both really stupid games that miss the mark as being Resident Evil installments, but they both possess some qualities that are reasons why I like the series. RE6 lacked atmosphere and didn't even make an attempt at being horror beyond the opening of Leon's story, but I thought the soundtrack, boss fights, and other such things were really good in RE6 in addition to the gameplay and content.

The first Revelations did mostly well when you were on the ship and especially during the early hours, but those interlude missions with Chris, Jessica, and Parker were just downright atrocious and just as dumb as anything in RE6.

The $25 price does make it rather attractive. I'll eventually bite on this, as I really enjoyed the first Revelations and this looks better in many ways to me.

At what point was I knocking Revelations 1? I really enjoyed Revelations 1. Also all the people quoting my intial post did you read my follow up where I explain where I'm coming from? If I knew what can of worms I was opening I probably would've kept my mouth shut.

Yeah, but you're the same guy who came in the OT spouting a lot of bullshit about how horrible the game was going to be because of how horrible RE was post-PS2 or whatever. So, yeah, big shock that you hated the game that you pretty much shouted from the rooftops was going to be bad to begin with. An avatar change doesn't wash away the shame, son.

Didn't say I hated the game, but it's still practically RE4-lite. It's not hard to see from the previews how the gameplay, atmosphere and visuals were going to turn out... and now that I've played it I'm giving my opinion. No need to get upset. I don't know what my avatar change has to do with this.

I posted this also in the game thread but wanted to say it here:

I do wanna say, I really like the little things in this game when it comes to dialog and throwbacks to other games. For example
The joke about Barry telling everyone about the Jill sandwhich moment. Or the comments on Ouroboros and the events in Africa.
Little things like that just put in a sense of connectivity to the overall series and I love it.

What are these? Were they in the 3DS version?

Wow some surprisingly good reviews coming in for this.

I played the first game on 360 and think I'll wait for the full retail release on PS4 but I never expected the scores it's getting so far.

Can't wait for some fellow Gaffer's opinions.

I'm not upset by any means. I'm just pointing out the obvious of how you made your mind up on the game well before you played it as you proved in the OT.

Huh, did Capcom actually make a good RE this time? I'll keep my expectations low after the abomination that was Revelations/6. Something tells me Capcom forked over cash to get such high reviews, I have no faith in these guys.

If The Order was called Resident Evil 1886 or something, it would've got good reviews as well

Are all these posts for real? It's time to grow up and get over the fact that others have opinions and might not like the same game as you. And what is with all this Order stuff? If you enjoy the game that's fine, but why are you trying to flood other topics with that bullshit just because you seem to be emotionally hurt by what some other reviewer rates a game (who probably has nothing to even do with the same reviewer who reviewed RE:R2). So dumb walking into a topic to read about peoples experiences with the game and being bombared with salt like that. Like hate on the game if you want, that's cool, but review whining is so really dumb stuff.

On Topic: I got over the fact that I won't have the throwback pack, but I did just pick up the game! Can't wait to finally play once I get finished with my midterms today -___-

I just read it, yes Revelations 2 looked very rough, haven't played it but gameplay and atmosphere seems to be a little step up from Revelations 1 thus it turned out better than many believed, its a nice surprise and that combined with the cheaper price seems to result in decent reviews of 6, 7 and 8, there is no much point in comparing it to The Order regardless.

Your first post seems like complaining just because other unrelated game wasn't as well recieved, but you already explained yourself so don't mind.

What are these? Were they in the 3DS version?

You don't remember stuff like Chris and Jessica in the winter setting getting attacked by wolves, or Parker escaping from the building full of hunters in Terrreeggaria or those two assclowns named Nimrod and Buttplug or something like that also in gunning sections involving Hunters? There were a number of these ridiculously stupid interludes that hurt the overall game for me.

Never thought people will complain about a RE game doing well in reviews, what is wrong with you?
There is no resemblance between REV2 and The Order, why even compare between the two?

I did, maybe I just can't change it during gameplay... Will check when I am on the main menu!

Yeah it might be in the controller settings, or gameplay. I can't recall but pretty sure I did it in game. Granted it was late one night a few days ago when I was messing around with the settings.

Ok yah those are starting to come back to me... I honestly didn't remember anything other than the boat. But I don't remember having any problem with these sequences...

The only thing that i remember hating in the game were the water monsters...

It's funny how that 'game' doesn't even escape other review threads. Sounds like RER2 is a nice surprise. I'll wait til the four episodes are out to scoop it up

Okay, question: If I pre-order the complete game on Steam, will I be able to download the episodes as they come out or do I have to wait until March?

Those are pretty good. Gonna wait for the complete version before I pick it up, but I'm eagerly awaiting some more impressions.

I got the sense in the past that many assumed this game would be terrible... and now I see that some people are surprised by decent reviews.

Why is this???

It looked and does look like complete crap but it's actually quite a serviceable, competent, enjoyable if unambitious little game.

Don't forget everyone. You can change your crosshair aiming to laser point! :D

Holy shit I forgot. This warrants a replay.

This is better than even I was hoping and I loved Revelations 1.

I have to say the complete lack of online right now is pretty upsetting, but as long as the online for raid doesn't take forever the budget price makes up for it.

Is raid mode missions with objectives or just kill X amount of enemies?

I have not played Raid Mode in Revelations 2, but I have in the first game. It's basically like a dungeon crawler, you do defeat enemies and that's the main focus, but there's a bit more to it. Some levels in Raid Mode were linear, others had multiple paths and endings... The basic idea is that you start and have to make your way to the goal post, in-between you and your goal are rooms with enemies, traps, and the like. The enemies can have weird and crazy buffs, like some enemies might be 4x taller, or some might be tiny, or have super speed, or they might be on fire, or they might suck you in, or have shields... Clear all the enemies in a room, and you get a key. The key can be used to open a locked door. Besides enemies, there's also loot chests to find and custom parts to collect.

And some stages changed the pacing, like one is just an enemy survival mode, another had hardly any enemies and mostly was maze-like underwater tunnels. As you do all of this, you gain experience, level-up your character, and get loot for you to use and parts to customize your weapons and such.

I hear in Raid Mode 2 they have new additions, which include character-specific skills, and challenges to complete stages under certain requirements to earn medals for more unlockables. These challenges differ from stage to stage, but include things like don't heal yourself, use a certain number of bullets and no more, complete within a limited time, and so forth.

It can be pretty addicting. Each stage also has three difficulties, and each difficulty, if like the first Revelations, doesn't just make the same stage harder, but completely remixes the level with different enemies, positions, traps, and more.

Order 1886 zealots seem pretty upset.

It's okay, this reviewing better doesn't mean Order 1886 is a bad game. You don't need to shit all over threads because a game reviews better Order 1886, otherwise it's going to be a very very long year for y'all.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. Sounds very good and worth the 25 dollars alone. Can't wait to play this when I'm off in a couple hours.

I was going to buy this regardless because Resi but I'm glad its getting good reviews. The first one was great and it looks like they are trying a small scale more focused approach that resident evil could really benefit from.

Plus dat raid mode.
