The colors of this photo will appear different to everyone. I think?

Its #8290B7 and #796743 (which is a goldish colour and a light voiletish colour) :P though due to lighting (and not original image) those Hex colours are close but not 100%

I actually see Black and blue from the picture.

so if u see blue and a brown kind of color your eyes are good?

You're seeing the same thing Photoshop sees if it's grayish blue and brownish gold. Those who are seeing dark blue and black have some kind of auto-correctness going on with their eyes or something.

This is so weird a few hours ago, I saw it as light blue and brown/gold, now I see it as black and blue... I even checked my monitor settings, along with flux, just to be sure.

It's dark outside now, so does daytime play a crucial role as well, or are our eyes just trying to correct themselves?

See, I have seen a photo that makes it look white and gold and another that looks blue and black. What is this thing and why has it reportedly broke the internet?

I'd like some answers as well. It's blue and brownish-black in the first pic, and blue and black in the 2nd two.

I think its more of that the grayish blue and brownish gold colors are right in between what a white and gold dress would look like under blue light and what a black and blue dress would look like under a yellow light, which results in the confusion between the two among people. Sure the dress is black and blue in real life, but the photo itself is more of an optical illusion

Probably doesn't mean shit other than the colors on my monitor are better than most, but

96% Adobe RGB spectrum. I'd assume I had a better change to do this, but it still took quite a few back and forth adjustments before I was satisfied enough to press submit. Probably stared at this for 15 minutes with a couple of breaks to rest my eyes. Never worn glasses.

That said, only a very light greyish blue and definitely gold for me on that dress. YMMV.

The hell, the photo is now black and blue.
I checked the photo I messaged to my friend and it's changed too.
I read the science, but it is still like magic to me. Going to hold that suspension of disbelief for as long as possible. :)

It's goldish and light blue for me now. Why I saw white before may have been because of the text I read before looking at it read "people see either white/gold or black/blue" so my mind had to choose)

I dont think anyone actually sees it as pure white and pure gold but white and gold under a blue light, which would result in the light blue/goldish brown you're describing.

People certainly are different, in no way, shape or form could i regard that dress as white. It's certainly Blue to me :)

I see it as blue and blackish but I did see it once clearly as white and gold when I was shown it unexpectedly and at a different size. It really has to be seen to be believed, now I know what all my white and gold friends were on about yesterday, lol.

I can't make myself see it as white and gold anymore, but I'm trying.

Make a small pin hole with your hand and look through it while looking at the dress. move it around and the blues and blacks will show up. Thats how it worked for me.

The dress is black and blue.
The photo of the dress is dark brown with yellow tint in brighter areas and light blue, as demonstrated by every color picker.

Now why do you see white and gold?
Most likely blue hue fatigue, your eyes have been exposed during the time you are awake to bright lights like sun light/lit screens and so on, so when you look at the image unaware of which color you are looking at, the blue gets filtered. -> Chromatic adaptation
Concurrently the super exposed background with white and yellow tinting may further influence this perception. Which also explains that when you do see blue/brown (black) it's likely that you'll keep seeing that, even if the hue fluctuates. -> Colour constancy.

How to game the eye/brain to see gold/white?

Opponent process. Bombard the focused eye with blue and when the image shifts fast, your eyes will eliminate it from the next image.

Focus on the black collar (neck area)/top of the image and stay focused there, in 30s or less you should be seeing the second image as gold/white (blueish).

The 1 second flash image is the original, same as op, you may test it after.

wtf.

this made it blue and black. goddamnit.

Strange that the initial photo looked white and gold, but quick glances it looked black and blue. Saw the photo on TV this morning and it looked black and blue then saw it on tv later and saw white and gold. I viewed the photo here on my phone, not sure that makes a difference.

I see white and gold, please don't tell me i have eye problems :(

Considering how its so evenly split between black and blue/white and gold and how most people are switching back and fourth, I don't think it has to do with eye problems as that would be strange for almost 50% of the population to have 'lower functioning retina's' or whatever the gibberish in the OP said.

Last night it was white and gold for me, but someone showed it to me early this morning and I saw blue and black. Now it's back to white and gold.

yea the screencap i took is changing colors

i look at it one minute and it's white and gold, and then 10 minutes later it's blue and black.

wtf

I see white and gold... brownish gold. The white looks like it's in shadow, which does give the appearance of a very dull bluish tint. But that's what shadows do. And obviously if you use software to analyze the isolated pixels, they're going to be detected as blue.

EDIT- Test score: 8

I've seen this picture on several different sites over the past day and sometimes it's blue and black and sometimes it's white and gold. My friend had texted it to me and it looks black and blue everytime I look at that one, but the one in the OP is always white and gold. I can even put them in two different t tabs on my phone and switch between them and each appears different

Holy crap. I saw the dress as white and gold, scrolled down to look at the listing where it appeared blue/black, scrolled back up and the original picture changed to blue/black.

I'm shook

Edit: it's doing that for me every time now. White/gold, scroll down to look at the blue/black picture, scroll up and it's blue/black again.

Are you people who see blue and black saying that all three of the pictures in the OP look more or less the same to you?

no, the top picture is a lighter shade of blue due to the exposure, but it's clearly blue. and the black is clearly black.

I was seeing white and gold before, but now every time I look at it, it's clearly a somewhat pale blue and black. same family of blue, but more washed out.

Blue and black. All you white/gold people have broken perception or colour normalization. lol
It's clearly a washed out image, so your brain should be able to adjust it to know it's black and blue.

I definitely see the very pale blue, but there's just no hint of anything even resembling black in the first one for me.

Not really, this is what people see it as:

This image really needs to be added to the OP to replace that shoddy tumblr 'explanation'
Yeah, the cones thing doesn't make sense to me because the image changed for some people once they knew more information. It's your brain filling in the gaps.

The most baffling thing, again, is how the Internet apparently just found out about optical illusions, despite them being the very subject of countless clickbait lists articles and google ads.

The thing is, the lightning in the context of the original image is bright white or yellow. So people are crazy if they see white/gold! lol

I honestly think instagram pics/filters are fucking with peoples perceptions.

They see a blue fucking dress and figure it must be white IRL.
