A very important piece of history:

Paris liberation made 'whites only'
The leader of the Free French forces, Charles de Gaulle, made it clear that he wanted his Frenchmen to lead the liberation of Paris.

Allied High Command agreed, but only on one condition: De Gaulle's division must not contain any black soldiers.

In January 1944 Eisenhower's Chief of Staff, Major General Walter Bedell Smith, was to write in a memo stamped, "confidential": "It is more desirable that the division mentioned above consist of white personnel.

"This would indicate the Second Armoured Division, which with only one fourth native personnel, is the only French division operationally available that could be made one hundred percent white."

At the time America segregated its own troops along racial lines and did not allow black GIs to fight alongside their white comrades until the late stages of the war.

Such an absolutely disgusting thing to do. It's something that needs to be taught more in schools.

On June 30th, 1974, Alberta Williams King was gunned down while she played the organ for the “Lord’s Prayer” at Ebenezer Baptist Church. As a Christian civil rights activist, she was assassinated...just like her son, Martin Luther King, Jr. But most people remember only one. Until a month ago, I was one of those people.

A good read. Happy Saturday, y'all..

She's wonderful and majestic.

Adorable, but it just shows how far Civil Rights have gone, and how far it must go.

Martin Luther King should not have died for multiple reasons, and this, sadly, is one of them.
Found this on Reddit:

Korean/Chinese propaganda from the Korean war.

By the language and tone, seems obviously written by a native speaker.

This a very moving document. I question how many hands it entered.

The document utilized few inherently irrational appeals while still presenting a strong argument.
I might use this for a history class in the distant future.

Hip-Hop duo The Reminders talk about themselves, current black leaders, and social issues of today.

Who are our black leaders of today?

We are. By we, we speak of the community organizers, teachers, coaches, parents, artists, and activists... People who lead by example and change lives daily.

If you could meet anyone, who would it be and why?

Wow. That’s a tough question! This may be the toughest one so far. We both have different answers for this one. Our first choices are Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), Jesus, Mother Teresa, the Dalai Lama, Mahatma Gandhi, and Buddha… But I think that goes without saying for us. Outside of those individuals:

Samir: Malcolm X. His story and example helped to shape the way I am. I can identify with so many aspects of his story. His humble and often difficult beginnings, his growing up without his father, moving around from place to place, and feeling like you had no direction, right before you discovered what your mission is in this life. My Islam, my quest for more and more knowledge, my desire to be as honorable of a man as I can… I can truly say that Malcolm X’s example inspired me in all of those areas, and more.

Aja- Bob Marley is a tremendous inspiration for me. I would love to be able to sit down and reason with him. I have listened to and loved Bob Marley since before I can remember. I was and still am tremendously influenced by his musicianship, his lyrics, his quotes and interviews. I can say without hesitation that he is my favorite musical artist of all time. I feel a genuine spiritual connection to who he was, where he came from, and what he represented.

Way more in the link.

In 1996, a white woman in Houston, TX gave up her racist beliefs at the age of 73. She had a home on the northside of the city in a burgeoning suburb. She spoke to a potential buyer over the phone, that worked at the big Compaq office in town. They talk of lots of things over 3 phone calls and agree on a price and to meet in person for the sign over. Upon meeting the woman was in complete shock. The woman she agreed to sell her home to was a young black woman. Flabbergasted that the kind and sweet person on the other end of the phone was black, in the late 20's and could afford a house alone. She's never talked to anyone of color for any length out of disgust all her life. Raised her kids to be the same way but no longer that shall be the case. They talk for hours in person and complete the deal. Plan to meet the young womans children since her own was grown up and she wanted kids to spoil with candy. Fast friends as much one could be and within a year the young woman went through complications with a simple operation and died. The old woman was devastated like everyone. Does what she could to help by offering the mother of the young woman a insane deal on the home 10% of it's value. The woman's kids find out, still in their ways they grew up in, tried to have her committed into a home and lose rights on the house and charge more to get the black family to leave. The old woman as well fell ill trying to fight and correct her children behavior. She died before the deal could be signed into a contract for the house, children took over and after a brief period went through their price gauging plan.

The ending isn't all too happy but it was still shocking off the same. I would have never believe people could change unless I saw it myself. Or that some will never change

I'm watching PBS right now and they have a Motown 25 infomercial drive thing going on.

Listening to that the music on TV right now makes reminds me of the vinyl records my mom had and she loved that stuff.

I'm gonna order the CDs for my mom,

what does Motown CDs have to do with white man buying his mom CDs with Black History Month? plenty

Motown is an enduring moment in music history that changed the face of music forever.

Stevie Wonder is the ultimate
