Halo: The Master Chief Collection is STILL broken after 100 days

Still waiting for a hard copy to hit $30. I primarily want it to play the campaigns through, as I've only played Halo 3 thus far (I was primarily a PS3 gamer last gen, and main a PS4 this gen). My 'Bone needs some lovin! Yeah, that does sound wrong.

Sorry for all the woes. I was a huge fan of H2, and fell off after but the MCC seemed like a great way to get back into the series (and with the crazy deals this holiday, I almost jumped at the chance) but I held off mainly because I probably wouldn't have time to get through it all and what made H2 so fun for me was playing 10 hours straight with buddies, most of which play destiny and other games with me on PS4 now so....no dice.

But seeing what has been happening with the MCC and the response to its issues have really left a sour taste in my mouth. Not sure I would even bother grabbing this and the console in the future anymore.

The emphasis on "Next Patch/CU/ will fix this" reminds me of Ubisoft and Ghost Recon Future Soldier. The game was immensely broken and Ubi did a terrible job of ever fixing it. There was TU after TU that made things worse or promised to make things better to no avail. That sort of thing really irked me enough to the point that I now buy any ubi game used or from a friend, if at all.

I hate the dependency on Content/title updates and patches. I hate how its going to magically fix issues that should not have occurred and often times does not.

I'm sorry for you guys going through this. Hopefully this next TU lives up to its promise for ya.

Can I get a refund for this?

I purchased it day one digitally and have probably played it for about 3hours max.

It's an absolute joke of a game.

Unless you're lucky its a pain in the ass. You can, but its much harder than it should be and counts as your "one accidental purchase per year." An accidental purchase really is the best thing the Halo Master Chief Collection can be called, cause no one should purposefully give these scam artists money.

I really really enjoyed my time with the campaigns but the multiplayer has been extremely disappointing and nothing like I had hoped it would be when they announced things at e3. I'm one of the lucky ones that has been able to get it to work fairly consistently I think but the waits between match and times it takes to load is to much for me

I would still buy it again If I knew then what I knew now simply because playing through the campaign was such an enjoyable experience

They should have waited to Halo 3's 10 year anniversary. It might be almost ready by then.

Don't expect to see ranking anytime soon.

Option A: Prioritize adding ranks over fixing matchmaking
Option B: Further delay CU so that ranks may be added in the same update
Option C: Delay adding ranks to a future update and focus on fixing matchmaking asap
Option D: Construct time machine to go back and fix the game before anybody got angry

What a fuckin embarrassment. This has to be the biggest cluster fuck of all time. Seriously, I have never seen anything even close to this. No ranks still even after the patch. Face it. they cant get this to work. That's the bottom line.

So we don't have any kind of update for the update yet?

We’re pleased to announce that our upcoming content update, which will improve stability, matchmaking, the party and invite system, and more, is now complete and has been submitted to the certification process. Within the next few days, we’ll provide details on timing and content.

Halo Waypoint

Option E: Fire everyone involved in this disaster and start over.

Perhaps after Halo 5 ships we will see something, I doubt they would do anything before to risk upsetting the final stretch

Good, good. Been waiting on the update forever. Hope it addresses Campaign along with all of the Multiplayer issues. Haven't touched the Campaigns yet, simply due to people experiencing bugs and some frame rate issues (warthog in HCE and Halo 4).

I never was a huge fan of Halo, but I always enjoyed the campaigns. I have $60 sitting in my account that will expire in the next month. I rarely ever play my xbox one since I play everything on Steam,

As I know the multiplayer is totally still messed up, and I only would play the single player, do you guys think I should get this game or hold off on it still?

Could have gotten a massive discount just this past weekend during the Ultimate Game Sale on TMCC.

I've become so disatisfied with how 343 has been handing the MCC, I'm pretty much not playing it, saving up on the side for an extra XboxOne (my girlfriend and I have difficulty working on split screen.

I'm just gonna wait to get a new XboxOne, not do the updates (do it all offline) and abuse the no-Iron LASO campaigns.

i fucking slaved completing Halo 1 LASO (with Iron), but as I was wrapping up the last level, they did an update, deleting ALL my LASO progress
I have NO friends with MCC, so I have to do it all myself, i'll be fucking damned if I do it all again with iron.

For SP only it's good for the most part.

Do you still have the original campaigns playable on their original platforms? If so, I'd personally stick with that. Otherwise it might be an okay deal.

the decision to release must surely have been at Phil's desk. Maybe he got a slightly optimistic view of the issues, who knows...

Games get issues and slip regularly. It's the decision not to slip that's dubious.

that said, how would November npd have looked without MCC? Was that sales/press boost worth it in the short term for the reputational loss in the medium term?

Saw this gem on reddit, thought i should share:
From the last update, on 2/18:

The next time we communicate regarding the status of the upcoming CU, we will provide a definitive timeframe for its availability.

From this update:

Within the next few days, we’ll provide details on timing and content.

I guess I forgot about the option to have a destructive tantrum.

Tantrum? What would happen to you if you performed this way at your job? If this was Phils call maybe he needs to go. I dont know whats wrong with people being accountable these days. Its like everybody needs a pat on the back and a fucking metal for everything.

This is the worst launch of a flagship game ever and its essentially A REMAKE. You don't think maybe, just maybe someone needs to lose their job. People forget, Halo 4 had its problems also at launch.

The fact that it's gone into certification creates a timeframe, though.

Phil is one of thr main reasons Xbox is competitive to ps4 after that shitty 2013 e3, and you want to fie him because you think maybe this is his fault?.

The best thing they can do ATM is fix the game and then take actions against the one whose fault is. Even then firing people sounds unreasonable to me.

This game is a fucking disaster. And the fact that halo 5 doesn't have local 4 player online is a even bigger one. Such a big failure for one of my favorite franchises.

They should do a recall. That they haven't is enough to make me laugh off buying anything day one on their console ever again.

Xbox one is my "only exclusives at price drops" machine.

Don't even have it plugged in right now. Pathetic.

Not Phil specifically. I'm saying whoever is responsible for this. Also, Phil was very involved in the Xbox One's original plan so let's not make a hero out of him yet.

Did anyone else the embarrasing product placement of MCC in the Modern Family?

Are you seriously calling out a 2 second halo reference in an episode taking place completely on an Apple laptop and iphones using Apple apps? That was the embarrassing part?

That episode was pretty, good, despite the 22 min apple product placement.

Of anyone listed this would fall within Phil's responsibilities. He is the final say on MS Studios games and if he felt like the game was too broken he could have delayed it. However most likely the terrible MM problems were not as pronounced in internal testing. If they were seeing the occasional disconnect and somewhat long times they probably decided it was fine to ship. The fact that it completely shit the bed in a retail environment is the result of that decision.

Halo 5 cutting a feature that a fraction of the users took advantage of in previous releases is far from being even on the same plane of existence as the colossal mishap that TMCC has been since launch. It may be impacting you more, but overall the issues plaguing TMCC are so profound and disturbing, that no matter what happens, there will be a cautious rift between future releases from Microsoft and a large portion of the dedicated players they are in desperate need of retaining. The game should have been delayed, or soft launched with campaign only if these issues were known. I know that the general claim is that the game performed perfectly in their closed testing environment, but that to me sounds like their testing environment is a sham and needs to be completely rethought. This game has been worse than even the most pessimistic person could have imagined it would be and now it will be the low standard bar for what a game could turn out to be. I've had faith in the Microsoft ecosystem for a so long and this game may well be the straw that broke the camels back for me.

Wait, no local 4 player? This confirmed?

I get we're in a more online connected world these days but 4 player local is great stuff. Hell, I'm still upset DC doesn't have local 2 player.

This generation..

Will this be fixed before Halo 5 comes out? I think that is my only concern at this point. If not, I have no reason to buy it. I'll just wait to see how Halo 5 turns out then decide if it's time to bone up. Maybe a slim model will be shown at E3.

Halo 4 ran (and looked) like shit on 4 player splitscreen.. If they're not going to do it properly, it's better to stick with a lower count.

Don´t confuse HALO 5 with MCC.

The MCC was rushed, developed by 5 different studios and just put together by 343 and due to time constraints not properly tested.

The HALO 5 beta prooved that 343 "can" do it.

Couldn't connect to my coop partner during last night's numerous attempts to play some H1:A. Will it work tonight?? Stay tuned.

I hadn't really touched this since launch.

I was shocked today when I tried to find a MP game, couldn't and then couldn't quit out.

Still quite a mess. I don't think anything will be able to change my opinion about the product at this stage.

The Halo 5 beta didn't prove anything. Everyone is way too forgiving of the problems in that beta simply because it ran somewhat better than Halo: MCC.

The Halo 5 beta had many of the same problems. Trouble forming and maintaining fire teams, check. Unacceptably long matchmaking wait times (especially when playing with a party), check. Matchmaking glitches that cause a user to get stuck on a page post-match forcing the user to quit out of the app, check.

So sure, people can be marginally happier with their experience of the Halo 5 beta. That's fine. But lets not pretend like the Beta didn't have significant problems. Yes, it was "only a beta", but lets not pretend like these problems are very concerning considering Halo: MCC and 343i's track record. The matchmaking in booth Halo: MCC and the Halo 5 beta are unacceptably poor, and just because Halo 5 beta > Halo: MCC doesn't mean that it deserves our praise.

They had the same problems with matchmaking and parties for a reason...

What's your point? My post was in response to the person who said "The HALO 5 beta prooved that 343 "can" do it."

If the Halo 5 beta was built on the same matchmaking foundation as Halo: MCC. It doesn't prove that they are capable of anything. It's on them to prove that they're capable of releasing a stable, polished game.

Until then, I will not be handing out any underserved praise simply because there was "a reason" for why the Halo 5 beta matchmaking was similarly atrocious.
