NFL Offseason Thread 2015 |OT2| Home of Baseball, Anime, Cricket, and Magic Johnson

The Eagles will still eat $3.4 million in cap for trading McCoy simply because signing bonus (1.7 each year remaining except for the last year) accelerates onto the cap of the Eagles.

In terms of guaranteed money remaining, it stands at $1 million for 2015. That's all the Bills are on the hook for if he doesn't make the roster. If he makes the roster, it is then $9.75 million for base salary ($1 million of this guaranteed), plus $250k roster. $10 million total, with potential $250k workout bonus as well.

So a potential of $10.25 million total cap hit if he meets the bonuses. That is unless the Bills work something out with him.

$7.15 million and $7.85 million the following years, nothing guaranteed.

It would be in McCoy's best interest to work something out to get more guaranteed money, he's only due $1 million from Bills, and $3.4 from Eagles over the next 3 years. Probably the reason the Bills took the bait.

Updated: Kiko Alonso has 2 years left on contract at $746,000 and $942,000. LeSean McCoy has 3 years left at $10.25M, $6.9M and $7.6M.

I knew Chip disliked Shady. McCoy is a great RB, but in Chip's scheme you have to hit the hole, not dance around in the backfield looking for a homerun.

Plus, we save quite a bit with the deal. Gonna miss McCoy, but he wasn't worth the money he wanted. Looks like we're going to sign all the free agents.

That's like 40 in running back years, when you can keep drafting cheap and productive players, even in late rounds.

Nah. 26 is still pretty good for a RB - I would expect LeSean to be productive for at least the next 2-3 seasons. Worth the price tag? No. But finished like he was 40? Also no.

Is he really going to take less money to stay in Buffalo?

McCoy is proven talent. Alonso had one good year and been injured the rest.

The rest is up to how Chip replaces him and adds more talent on offense. And hope Alonso can stay healthy. He had injury problems in college too.

Being a proven talent doesn't mean very much at the running back position when you can continually restock the position with younger and cheaper options. Look at Murray- he just had one of the best running back seasons in years and his production is actually a knock against him.

With the Eagles' offensive line and Chip's scheme, I don't think he'll have any trouble getting 1,000 yards for whichever FA RB they sign or draft pick they select.

Not a matter of taking less money, it's a matter of getting more guaranteed money.

The last two years are contract filler. No guaranteed money. McCoy will get $4.4 million over the next 2 years. That's all that's guaranteed to him. He'll likely make his $10 million this year.

After that he really doesn't have anything to fall back on. It would be best for him to work out a deal with the Bills to increase guaranteed money to something more substantial than basically 0.

People know the Dallas run game success is about the line. About guys like Smith and Martin. That's also why people understand they aren't breaking the bank on someone like Murray. Aside from the fact he also has a injury history.

As for the Eagle line: they've dealt with injuries and McCoy still produced, including with shit at QB. Peters has dealt with said injuries and is getting older. Herremans just got cut.

Haven't seen reports but Jacquian Williams sent a tweet that sounds like he got released.
He was a FA. Giants opting not to re-signing him is a no brainer. Dude is soft.

That makes sense. Guess it would be in everyones best interest to do a new deal then.

his contract only runs till he 28, also 26 = 40 is total hyperbole.

But it's really not. Maurice Jones-Drew was the rushing champion in 2011 at age 26. After that he held out for a pay raise. The Jaguars refused and he came to camp anyway. Would any team have wanted him then? The tread on his tires by that point made him almost untouchable in terms of a guaranteed contract.

Running backs age at a different rate than other positions.
While it's true that McCoy was negatively impacted by the injuries to the Eagles' offensive line, he also failed to make defenders miss. McCoy averaged 2.09 yards after first contact this season. That's a career low for him. The previous low was 2.10 in his rookie season. He wasn't nearly as elusive as he's been in the past.. McCoy finished 15th out of 18 running backs that have played at least 50% snaps in Pro Football Focus's "Elusive Rating", which boils down a runner's success beyond the point of being helped by his blockers. McCoy finished much higher in this rating in past years: sixth in 2013, sixth in 2012, seventh in 2011. PFF graded McCoy 55th out of 57 running backs that played a minimum of 25% offensive snaps in 2014.

Seems like Trent Cole is a little upset with the release?

No respect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Caption that!

Bills eat the $10 million this year, and get a great RB. After that they can either cut him for no hit to their cap (Eagles pay this as salary bonus $1.7 million). Or work out an extension for a better deal for both parties in the long run.

They lose a good LB with potential for greatness, but I'd trust Rex to find someone to replace him.

Obviously only time will tell who wins this one.

Demarco Murray is a bad example because everybody and their mother knows his success is due to that offensive line.

CJ Spiller says Chip can call his agent and he could play in the Eagles offense.

The Bills just called CJ Spiller to tell him about the McCoy trade, and that they are going in another direction.
