Even at the bottom end, it's overpriced...
Fair enough. I wouldn't say what they had on display today puts them way out in front though.Because the list of apps available already today is impressive, and will only continue to get better. The Apple ecosystem draws developers more quickly, and it appears that'll be the case with the Watch too. I'm not saying Android Wear in particular won't have a robust app store to choose from, but don't be surprised when Apple Watch blows by the competition in this regard.
The same can be said about accessories too. I'm already seeing press releases show up in my inbox with third part bands for the Apple Watch. Don't like the price of the bands Apple is offering, don't worry, there will be plenty of others. This is just another area that Apple tends to have a leg-up on the competition.
Steel, black sport bands, here.
One for both me and my wife - fell right into the price window I needed. Sweet!

I have some issues with it besides the thickness:I hate how thick it is but the round display looks so much better.
I wish this were a joke post. Can't you just wait for 2nd gen bruh?
I wish this were a joke post. Why do you care how he spends his money?
Most of the Android Wear watches (and Pebble watches actually) are compatible with normal 22mm watch bands so not really.
gotta look out for my fellow gaffers
I hate how thick it is but the round display looks so much better.
And how often do you change your band on watch that is compatible with normal 22mm bands? You can actually change the look of the Apple Watch in seconds with their magnetic bands, so expect lots of people to do just that. Buy the model they like, then spend a little cash on an extra band or two to change up the look, and do it often. Third party bands will offer even more choices, and the ones that showed up in my inbox were only $29.95. Probably not as high quality as Apple's but then option is there.
I know that the Pebble has magnetic bands now too, but we'll have to wait to see how much third part support they actually get.
Eh- I mean, I'm not a fan of The Order, but I'm not going to tell people not to buy it, or that anyone posting that they're getting it is a joke post.
I don't like this watch, but people should be able to happily say they're getting it without being told that that's stupid.
It's not overpriced if people buy it
So the 89 dollar adaptor for the USB type C port doesn't have power in...Meaning that you're still boned for ports while charging the new Macbook.
Use the standard USB port to connect devices such as your flash drive or camera or a USB cable for syncing and charging your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. You can also connect a charging cable to the USB-C port to charge your MacBook.
On the one hand, I want the sport edition, but on the other hand, I spent $55 on a Striiv Fusion and I'm happy with it so far.
What to do...
Can third party bands do anything other than skin the iWatch? I'm more interested in the functional aspect that the Pebble can offer with third party bands. Even if it's just simply a nice looking band that extends the batter, that'll be a nice welcome addition as a feature to the Pebble watches.
I love how people are justifying the ludacrous prices by comparing it to traditional watches. The difference between a $100 timex and a $5,000 watch are insurmountable. The difference between a $349 Apple Watch and a $1099 Apple Watch...is the strap and metal. It's the same fucking watch.
The pricing is pure trash. $1099 should get me a better watch with more features or specific hand made design qualities that make it worth the price - not the fact it uses steel over aluminum or metal over plastic.
The damn car icon is bleeding into the edge!

Uh, regular watches are much worse. Both a $150 Bulova and a $5000 Omega Seamaster can have ETA 2892 Movements made by Swatch on the inside. It's only when you get into $10,000 Rolexes and Patek Phillipes that you get in-house, non-Swatch made movements. The difference between the Bulova and the Omega is comparable to the Apple Watch components.
I can't wait to purchase the iWatch and iPhone 6+. I can't wait to run my marathons with a 6" smartphone strapped to my arm and my new $10,000 watch.
Lol, no...
People pay for overpriced items all the damned time...
Just because consumers don't know any better/don't care doesn't mean things aren't sold for way more than they are worth...
My thoughts exactly. I am not going to spend $600+ to what amounts to a watch band.
I keep seeing people post this as an example of a "good" smart watch design and I see something that wants to be a regular watch with an ugly looking user interface. The white notification pane looks very clunky and breaks the face aesthetic. The damn car icon is bleeding into the edge!
I'm sure it's great in person, but apple has really done a much better job on the UI since they aren't limited by android wear.
I'll be stuck in meetings all afternoon so I'll miss the immediate reactions/breakdowns when pricing is announced. that's a shame. I was looking forward to that.
anyway, my predictions for the event:
CORRECT
it's not 100% Watch. there's a macbook air 12" retina model shown off. it has awesome battery life, weight and display. it requires USB-C dongles to charge and hookup external storage at the same time (so I remain horribly conflicted about whether I want one).
CORRECT: SS pricing begins at around 500 or 550 with the rubber straps. tops out at 1500 for the black SS with the black link bracelet. (black will have small premium over the regular SS, per the old macbooks) GUESS WAS TOO HIGH FOR SS LINK BRACELET.
gold watches come with leather or rubber bands. no expensive all-gold bracelets aimed at the Oil Sheikh market. pricing between 7k and 10k. WRONG. LEATHER BANDS WITH MALL GOLD BUCKLES ADDED 7K TO PRICE FOR A MAX OF 17K. MOTHER OF GOD
lots of app demos on stage with third parties. we've seen less of these since Forstall left but I think this event will highlight how the watch is supposed to fit into your life with many, many examples. DIDNT WATCH CONFERENCE. DONT KNOW
Cook will use his kinda creepy whisper voice to proclaim how amazing sales are of the iphone and how this watch will change our lives when we pair it our our iPhones. DIDNT WATCH CONFERENCE. DONT KNOW
edit: final prediction, though I've said this before. no internal upgrade for the S1 chip announced or hinted at. If you want but can't afford a brand new watch when a new one comes out, then you're not Apple's market here. CORRECT, I THINK. IVE READ NOTHING ABOUT THIS
On the positive side you'll probably (hopefully?) be able to use it with a future updated version of the watch.
Really? You think there's that drastic of a difference where one of these looks like a toy but the other doesn't?

Is this watch not always on? Is that true?
Yeah. It would last 2 hours if the screen was always on.
Hmm, I just bought an Asus Zenwatch last week. Its always on and lasts about two days.
I wish this were a joke post. Why do you care how he spends his money?
Yes, the watch goes into always on low power, time only mode, when not fully being used. You get 2 days of screen on time on a 369mAh battery?
I didn't realize you could back out of orders on Kickstarter prior to the end date. So I put a pledge in while I mull it over.

Ok, so the CEO here just asked me what you can do with the watch if you don't have your phone. I assume it still keeps time and you can set calendar stuff and little things like that, right? Anybody have a full list of things you can do if your phone is elsewhere?

Don't count on interacting with your calendar.
Apple won't publish this stuff, they don't want to send out mixed messages - it's meant to be used with the iPhone at all times. We'll know more when it's released.
