Final Fantasy XV Demo Previews/Impressions Thread

Oh boy.. That's gonna cause quite a stir lol
for some
It comes off as really childish and presumptuous.

I'd think the fan base for the series is better than that and more accepting of other people's views on what makes an FF game something they like instead of trying to push an inflammatory agenda.

Seriously, let's do that! I want to see the FF grandmas and grandpas come out in droves decrying the series' decline
since FFVII or alternatively FFX
:D
No, my favorite are the people who say FF has been terrible since FFVI and feel compelled to come into most FF threads and tell us that. Like seriously, you've hated the series for what, 20 years now? Can you just leave the community alone, please?

Lol

At least gaf has the least toxic FF community. I am part of it over on reddit and its just a shit show the majority of the time. Also 4chan is well... 4chan.

In what context?

I dunno, it "feels" like it's somewhat deeper than your usual RL-brand deals that some Japanese games do every now and then like MGS or Ryu ga Gotoku, yet at the same time, it's subtle in the sense that the Roen brand isn't being pushed with the marketing of this game in any notable way.

Tabata held a panel at Paris Games Week with some journalists regarding the fashion in Final Fantasy. I definitely think that they are aware about Roen, and they'll probably elaborate on that later. It's not a big enough deal where you have to push its marketing for the demo.

Interestingly, it seemed like UK designer company BRIXTON was also involved in a similar capacity as Roen, since Prompto had the BRIXTON Panther logo and caption on his vest. However, it's been removed after the TGS 2014 reveal and that's kinda weird.

Okay, found this from an interview with Tabata:
"– As for sleeping, there was also a scene where Noctis was sleeping in a car, does that count? (Laughs)

Tabata: That’s ultimately just an idle action. (Laughs) You end up driving around in the car for long periods of time, so in order to give it a natural feel of traveling with friends, there are idle actions with a lot of variations being prepared. We heard a lot of requests from overseas fans about wanting a radio or jukebox type of element, but I think that’s something we’ll investigate later on."

That's an interesting idea! I can see this enhancing the player's immersion when exploring the world.

But if they are going to implement the radio it should be more than just a jukebox. Songs or radio broadcasts should elicit a response between party members that can lead to interesting interactions. The radio can be also used to trigger events or reveal hints to a side quest. Radio stations from different regions of the world should provide their own unique songs and broadcasts that would indicate the differences between regions/kingdoms. Of course the player should have the option of turning the radio on or off.

Would it be a good idea for licensed music to co-exist alongside Yoko Shimomura's without breaking immersion? I like to have both options. But if SE decides not to implement licensed music that's fine too.

I'm really hyped up for this demo. Let's hope it's as good as these news sites say it is.

Also new here.. so um hi guys?

Well it has a bigger importance in Japan and Nomura is the person who really wanted the collaboration.

Welcome! First post 5 months later! lol

But it will be. Its been pretty universal praise so I don't see it being bad honestly. and it is just a demo

To be fair, I think the demo of FFXIII was also well-received and look how the final game turns out. :x

True but we have already seen that XV is NOT XIII. Its open, everybody loves the gameplay and they have been pretty open about what is going in the demo and looking for some kind of feedback. I am alot more confident

Licensed music in bulk is never a good idea long-term. Never.

Unless you like headaches dealing with self-important pompous types 20 years down the road about lapsed licenses and dumb shit like platform/rerelease/promotional/sequel/whatever restrictions because that was the only way the fee is going to be anywhere close to practical for bulk.

It's very open, given the fact that someone said they played it for about 2 to 3 hours, and still had stuff to do. seems like this isn't the typical demo that last 30 minutes to an hour and your done with it. I thought i heard a while back that there was even more stuff opened after you beat the main plot of the demo.. Not sure where i heard it from or if i remember wrongly or not.

Unless you're referring to the main plot as "killing the behemoth" then I don't think there's anything after you beat the story of the demo, as that's when you get your car back.

Maybe they have a NG+ for the demo lol

I think it could be fun if Shimomura tried to emulate different modern genres like Pop, Hip-Hop or EDM with an unique twist for the radio stations near Noctis' modern home city.

I think people liked the battle system, but apparently the demo has no auto-battle option unlike the final product, which helped to make a better impression I guess.

The demo didn't even have paradigms though, did it? That's like the crux of XIII's battle system

I was thinking that the radio could have news instead of music.

Someone talking about what's happening around that region, areas of interest, places with a good view, dungeons, or even start mini quests like the stuff that Prompto/Ignis/Gladio points out in the map.

I heard you could play as lightning once you beat it.

You will hear many things... Many things.

Besides things like a couple of camera quirks and escaping battles easier, I'm personally shocked at how well received the base combat is. People really seem to stress how strategic and good it feels, and that there's still reactionary systems that will please action fans.

That was definitely my biggest concern, and I'm glad for the most part, I was worried for nothing. I wonder, is it possible that this combat system is different from TGS 2014, where everyone freaked out about "holding buttons"? I know you can still hold for a basic combo, but the things like parries, perfect dodging, etc. seem like things that weren't even hinted back then. And I remember how Tabata stressed how combat changed from Nomura's initial vision, but now, it seems pretty in line with what got us hyped all those years ago.

Yeah I was prepared for at least mixed reactions, since it is such a different combat system, but it has been universally praised for the most part. I am hype
