Final Fantasy XV Demo Previews/Impressions Thread

Im trying to figure out if I really hate the product placement, or its that I am despising FFXV at this point that is making me decide this is shit without really thinking about it

It seems gross, so I'll just go with that and think I'm not being biased

As a diehard fan of this game, I will be the first to tell you it's gross. I hope it doesn't get out of control, because screw that.

As long as it's just there in the background I don't mind it. I didn't even know Coleman was a real company until people here pointed it out. Plus we've known about their deal with Roen for years now; I'll be surprised if their logo doesn't appear somewhere in the game

I don't agree with this, but even if... FFXV?s world while not being really on Earth is basically taking place on earth. There's Tokyo, Venice, South USA and even current trend fashions in it. It's not Earth but it's Earth. You get what I mean :P

Btw Do we know if at the end of the DEMO there's any super cool new trailer or such?

There's just no reason for a real-life Earth company to have ads or anything present in a non-Earth setting. It's goofy and off-putting. It'll never be something I don't play a game over, but it's also not something I appreciate in a setting that's supposed to be a fantasy world.

If this were the next Parasite Eve, or The World Ends With You, or similar, where fantastic events occur in the real world, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest (in fact I actually appreciate it).

Honestly, if it was "parody" companies or "parody" product placements that mimic real life ones, but aren't actually them, then it miiight be okay, but I too dislike the use of them.

Roen's logo is a skull.

So... yeah.

Should've been www.claires.fr/.

don't hurt me either

"Jason Schreier: I'm avoiding spoilers in this write-up, but I will say that the battle ends with a "HOLY SHIT" moment the likes of which I expect we'll see many of in Final Fantasy XV, followed by a spoilery tease for the main game, which still has no official release date."

I guess so :)

Is that Coleman shit real? Please tell me it's Photoshopped.

I think it's cool. Didn't even know what Coleman is, though, to be honest. I guess it's more of an American thing? At least I never heard of it in Germany. But then again I'm not the biggest camping expert.

The Coleman thing is relatively harmless on its own, but it does cause them to miss an opportunity to build unique props that reflect the party.

I don't mind product placement as long as it's just... there. It's not a direct ad and the characters never say the product's name, it's just a negligible thing.

I would've never known that Coleman was an actual thing, and having those logos make the things look more "real"

Why couldn't it have been a fictional company that sells outdoors products? Why does it have to be a real American company? What's next? Will I be able to go into Walmart and buy some fucking phoenix downs, which will be revealed to be a Pepsi product? It doesn't make any sense. It's a small thing but I think it's getting a little too close to home. It's starting to zap the "fantasy" out of the title.

Thankfully the "based on reality" is still in the title.

Is it tuesday yet? I'm so excited!!!

It's really annoying though that I'll have to wait for the PSstore to update so I can finally purchase my type-0 with the demo =(

Guys, it's a fucking logo on a chair for a company you (most likely) didn't know even existed. Get over it

I'm very familiar with it. Like I said it's a small thing, but I find it beyond stupid. If this game were set in America during our time period that would be one thing, but it clearly isn't with a bunch of monsters and giant crystal structures. Is it such a bad thing to be irked about something that doesn't make any sense whatsoever? When you start doing something like this, IMO it begins to take some of the escapism away.

I don't really see the big deal, as long as they're not all "Gee whiz guys, good thing we got half off on Phoenix Down with the purchase of a Coleman™ tent!"

I mean, I guess it can be immersion breaking. But a FF game hasn't really immersed me since VIII or IX, so it doesn't bother me too much.

Alternate reality of our world. And you can suspend disbelief for the giant fucking monsters and lightning bolts and and all this crazy shit but a logo is what takes you out of it? Really? Seems like people are just reaching for things to complain about at this point.

I'm so wary about spoilers that I actually tried opening the spoiler on your address and got disappointed when there was nothing there

What is wrong with me

It's not that it's a bad thing, I just find it weird to be up in arms about something so meaningless, but then again I hate the word "immersion" so there's that.

The Coleman thing is the least offensive thing ever for me.

They would have never explained the tents and other camping items in the game anyway, and this just happens to be a logo and it doesn't change the paradigm of the game.

If this hurts your idealization of this "fantasy" world so much, just imagine that another nearly identical company by the name of Coleman was founded in Lucis or something. There. Problem solved. Their hometown is literally Tokyo with airships.

If you can imagine

and

in the same game, why is this some crazy leap in logic now?

This isn't like Audi sponsoring the car or something like that. That would actually affect the entire line of royalty in Lucis and their affiliations with other companies. Tents just happen to be items you buy at a convenience store and literally has no affect on the lore of this game.

Hope people put demo spoilers in spoiler tags or maybe make a new thread to discuss it, as the demo isn't available everywhere on the same time.

This doesn't make any sense. "This name exists in my world while I'm alive so this just breaks all immersion for me. This can't possibly exist anywhere, but here."

If a character's name is Brandon in a game, is that beyond stupid?

Do you guys overreact to everything when it comes to this game? Chill. It's product placement and it's barely noticeable. It's not worth discussing and it definitely isn't worth complaining over. You guys are so dramatic.

Add me to those who think the Coleman tie in is gross and pulls me out of the fiction.

More than that, I can't stand the idea of being advertised to in a game I've paid 60 dollars for. Advertising is the reason I have refused to pay for television or listen to radio for over a decade and the reason I moved from the Xbox system to PS last generation. I don't want it to become the reason I don't play Final Fantasy.

which parts should we spoiler? other than the ending?

We know everything except Summons (and lots of people know summons as well)

I am intending to put some screenshots on 17th, but mostly just open field visuals and fight with normal enemies that we have seen countless times.

Noctis, we'll be heading to a dangerous area. In order to cook this meat we'll need to use the Lean Mean Machine to make sure we get all the nutrition without the fat.

Unironically though, I love real world stores in games. Going to a well rendered Starbucks/Don Quixote would be pretty cool.

I wish I wasn't a dirt poor college student and had enough money to purchase a PS4/XB1 and preorder Type-0 :(

I'm excited for the new trailer at the end of the demo but I'm assuming it'll be nothing substantial.

Is it really advertisement, though? Just because a product is used, does not mean it's automatically advertised. (HERE! BUY THIS GREAT TENT!)
They use iPhones and Macbooks in fictional movies, too. Are you raging about that, too?

It's not intrusive advertising, LOGO OR NO LOGO the experience and duration of cutscenes, exploration etc would be the same, it's not a pop up, just a single image that doesn't disturb -_-

Why has people to overreact over anything is beyond my comprehension.

It's the first thing I noticed and wasn't something I was used to seeing in a Final Fantasy game. Normally these things don't bother me but the camera placement combined with the logo placement in those shots made me cringe a bit, not going to lie.

Solegate.

People'll bitch if Duscae is renamed Duskae

I don't like the product placement either but I don't understand how it doesn't make sense. The US doesn't exist in the XV world so it can be assumed that Coleman was independently founded and named by another fantasy citizen of a fantasy nation and it just so happens to resemble it's real life counterpart. I don't think it's too far removed from accepting XV's use of the Latin alphabet, the Gregorian calender, Latin and Arabic numerals, and the English and Japanese languages. They exist unaccompanied by their nation of origin so why can't Coleman?

It's fine if it doesn't bother you or if you want to defend it with a positive opinion. No qualms there. That being said, I don't think it's impossible to see why this is off-putting for some of us. It's not ruining the game or anything, but thinking it's dumb and slightly immersion-breaking is a valid opinion as well.

It's also a tad concerning in regards to the possibility of other real life elements making their way into the game. If they're slapping the Coleman brand on outdoors products (which, again, makes zero sense), just how far will it go? The last time they tried to correlate real life elements to Final Fantasy, we got My Hands, which was a bad song that had no place in that ending.

With Parasite Eve, the Coca-Cola vending machine makes perfect sense considering it's set in America in modern times, so that's reasonable at least. It's not the product placement that bothers me, it's the fact that it simply doesn't belong, and yes, for me, it breaks the immersion a bit-- even though apparently some people hate the word, but it's true and a valid descriptive especially when you're talking about escapism.
