That's weird. We will be getting it here in Peru through an official Nintendo distributor: Juegos de Video de Latinoamérica. I'm guessing Chile will get it too since JVL is an official distributor there too.
Though they said it would cost a little bit more, I don't know why since it costs the same as a regular amiibo in the US.

Do you guys think we'll see 3rd party or even indie amiibos down the line? The Project Ukulele team were talking about an amiibo kickstarter tier, I assume they don't actually know if they could do that yet. Do you think Nintendo would be interested? Do you even need Nintendo's permission to use the NFC for that purpose?

I'm trying to find a Villager Amiibo in Ireland and it's proving an impossible task. I see there is one in Gamestop Sligo and other in Gamestop Cavan. I'm almost ready to do 325km to purchase an Amiibo and I don't even have a car.

Well seems like any developer can use the nfc, sky landers and Disney infinity are basically the same thing, they just charge extra for a proprietary base station. The amiibo name is owned by Nintendo though, so we might see indie nfc figures (what's Nintendo call them, nfp?) but not indie "Amiibos".

The amiibo name is Nintendo's. They're not going to put it out there for use by anyone, too much potential quality issues and customer confusion. Considering Sega and Capcom don't get mentioned on the boxes even (surprisingly) unless Nintendo is interested in the character it won't be getting one.
Though I'd love to see all Smash characters get one, even Pichu.

I called Wal Mart customer service regarding my Gold Mario order. Its been charged according to them. I used PayPal so did it just charge immediately? I haven't ordered with Wal Mart before.

PayPal orders are charged immediately. This usually applies to any online store that offers PayPal as a payment option.

They do, but it's certainly subtle. The second to very bottom line on the back of the box says "© 2015 Nintendo. Character: © SEGA." Less subtle is Sega and Capcom's copyright on the bottom of the figures themselves.
Ah yeah. I talked to a Nintendo rep on Friday and he mentioned we'd probably get it within a month... or maybe two. Definitely not next week.

It doesn't seem like they were quoting the Walmart employee there. It could just be there assumption, though I'm guessing that it's right.
if it true that other places will never get it or there will be a long delay, it would confirm that these things are going to be quite valuable indeed. Even if there is a good supply in the US those that live elsewhere will flock to ebay to import it.

Apparently not, Gamestop is a franchis(ish?) so if I order online I get it from some kind of HQ while each store carries their own stock. Best I can do is track availability online.

target and bestbuy are known for limited exclusives. The gold mario is probably going to be common as shit at walmart.
I'm still going in to my Best Buy almost every day (I live right next to it almost) in hopes of there somehow being a stray Meta Knight that somehow appears on the shelf...absolutely zero luck. No Ike or Dedede either anywhere in my town....and I've checked Best Buy, both Walmarts, Meijer, both Gamestops, Target, and TRU all at least 2-3 times per week since the last week of February, because unfortunately amiibo fever didn't hit me until JUST after Wave 3b launched, but everything was already gone.

sure, there's the rush of finding them at retail, but you could have bought them online for like $30 and saved time and money by now.
You'll get burned out. I stopped checking retail entirely unless I'm already there. I've just preordered what I could and given up on the stress and bullshit.

Yeah it says on the website it's limited. People are just assuming it will be common. I think it will be more common than the other exclusives at any rate.
There was a sign somebody took a picture of at walmart stating their walmart would only be getting like 6 and there was nothing they can do about it. It makes you wonder how many Walmarts will only be getting 6.

I'm surprised that I haven't heard any frustrations from people outside the U.S. It's a wonder how this predominantly American community would respond if gold Mario was a European retailer exclusive.

What wave 4? That's 5-6 weeks away. SMB series is launching next week, and anyone who's a completionist will have to look on the resell market across the Atlantic or Pacific to finish their collection.
