Giant Bombcast - 03/17/15

When the theme music plays and Seth, Dean and Roman come down from the stairs it's such a badass feeling.
Seth had to go join the Authority and ruin it all! Now Dean is stuck in the mid card and Roman is talking! WWE is the worst, I really should stop watching.

I don't post in the GB threads much so i don't know if i'm going against popular opinion here, but if they only going to have 4 people on the bombcast drew has to make way for Jason. I just have a feeling Jason is the more passionate and knowledgeable gamer. I personally think he is just a better podcaster.

Don't get me wrong i like drew i like what he brings to the table but compered to Jason i think the switch should be made

They should give Jason a permanent chair in the podcast. He fill the hole that Patrick left of guy who plays games the other guys don't want to play.

What if we all just pool our money together and buy CBSi another microphone? Everyone wins.

It actually wouldn't surprise me if they were doing some sort of impromptu mailbag just so they get a chance to talk about the Nintendo stuff as long as it's hot.

I would get rid of Dan before I'd touch either Drew or Jason.

shitty food opinions can only carry someone so far as a member of the bombcast

you're the second person to say something about dan, are people getting bored of him already

Guys, we've had a 5 man podcasts for years before. We had a 5 man podcast last week.

true that in regards to the format when ryan was still alive

I doubt it's the number of people that's the hold-up. They probably just need one of their producers to be doing video work. Those would be 3+ hours a week where Jason wouldn't be working on something else.

He just seems to relish in being the 'dumb American' stereotype and it can get really grating. He's got very poor general knowledge (thought there was McDonalds in North Korea), seems to exist on a diet of junk food and doesn't seem to know how to cook a proper meal; I'm fairly positive he admitted to cooking chicken and then just putting the chicken back in the freezer (which in itself is not recommended) without even wrapping it up in anything. If he just stuck to talking about games then great, but often ends up getting sidetracked and the rest of the crew have to spend 5 - 10 minutes explaining basic concepts that he just can't seem to grasp. He didn't even know what a mortgage was ffs. I actually like Dan and would like him to stay on the Podcast, but his shtick can get tiresome.

do you not think other people on the podcast bait him into this routine though? Brad in particular, then overly react like he has just killed a baby when in fact he has just said i have never had ketchup on a burger.

As Jason says, Dan enjoys the reaction he gets when he trolls people. I find it easier to just ignore anything he says at this point, because otherwise it just gives him what he wants.

Cities Skylines is not related at all to Cities XL >.<
Hard to tell without doing any research or having prior knowledge of the city building genre outside of Sim City marketing events.

edit: sorry if this came across as snark, I actually didn't intend it to. :lol That's just how the guys are, sometimes.

I know how they are, just wanted to vent a bit.

Yeah I suppose they do so in some respects they're all to blame. It's a difficult one to be honest as part of the charm of the bombcast is listening to a bunch of friends get lost in some weird and hilarious tangents.

I also think alot of people give Dan stick unfairly, especially last week with his rant about Monster Hunter. I don't really see how it's any different from Jeff shitting on Majoras Mask.

And that's why I'm glad they recorded this before the Ninty announcement lol

People love The Last of Us so much that they're just willing to gloss over the terrible companion AI. I totally forgot about that.

Brad, I live in SC (15 mins from the NC Border). If you want some Vinegar based BBQ or even the Mustard Based let me know.. I'll send you a bottle (or more).

There is such good BBQ here.

About Dan, I disliked him at first. But now that I've heard him speak at multiple venues (video/audio), I honestly think of him as a genuine guy. Yes he's a little naive and stuck in his ways/beliefs but he's a good person at heart and doesn't mean to cause insult or injury to anyone. He's actually kind of endearing.

Helllll no!

Dan just add so much to the show. Him, brad and jeff just work so well off each other.

Dan also plays alot of games.

Wednesdays after breaking news makes me miss Scoops and the Wolf :(

How soon until the east coast podcast starts up (and how soon until we can get Jason out there. The best man deserves the best crew. Look at those ratings!)

Let's be clear....Dan is probably one of the least intelligent people to which I've been exposed. He is super entertaining, though. He's also a good of example of a person who can be successful, despite not being particularly intelligent. He just has a lot of determination and willpower and bends the world to his success. In some ways it is admirable and in some ways it is infuriating. It's cool to be along for the ride, though.

I look forward to starting this Bombcast on my run today and seeing what mess he's gotten himself into this week.

I can't wait until Jeff finally comes around on X-2. The combat system is too good to dislike. Soon.

*holds breath*

X-2 is good, just ask Brad.

http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/final-fantasy-x-2-review/1900-6083743/

The localization and voice acting in FFX-2 are outstanding. On the whole, the dialogue is very well written, and it's delivered convincingly--the returning characters' voice actors reprise their roles, and the new actors are of the same high caliber. The performance of Hedy Burress is especially noteworthy since she manages to bring the formerly somber, dull Yuna more fully to life, in accordance with the changes to the character.

Gamers have long clamored for Square to continue the storyline of one of its Final Fantasy games, and with good reason. After spending a good 50 hours with a group of characters embroiled in one life-or-death situation after another, you can't help wanting more. Now the concept of a direct sequel has been put into practice, and the result is Final Fantasy X-2: a slightly uneven but still engaging game that's worthy of the revered name. The story's almost-total reliance on a familiarity with Final Fantasy X may limit its audience to those who enjoyed that game, but then, if you're into RPGs and own a PlayStation 2, odds are you've finished FFX at least once already. At its best, FFX-2 is every bit as poignant, endearing, and engrossing as its forebears, and it's this similarity to stronger games in the series that ultimately makes X-2's minor flaws forgivable.

It's a shtick.

Dan loves to play the agitator to spur a lively discussion.

Which, most of the time, he succeeds in doing so.

But seriously who the fuck says "yulk". Nobody.

Yeah, this kinda threw me for a loop. Yes, they're spelt differently but they're pronounced the same.... Aren't they?! I've never in my entire life heard anyone pronounce the 'L' in yolk and yet Brad seemed to giving Dan a hard time for not pronouncing it.

I've NEVER gotten the impression that Dan is anything but a very intelligent and fun guy who knows exactly what he's doing.

Some people have had those complaints about Dan since day 1, look at history of Giantbomblr.tumblr.com for maybe the most extreme example. And it's been brought up in pretty much every Bombcast thread since he started. Some people dislike what he brings and that's okay. I would say that there's at least as much bitching about Drew in Bombcast threads as there is about Dan, unless Dan says something that gets on people's nerves in a podcast.

As a diehard FF fan, is this going to be one of those Bombcasts where I continue lamenting their lack of anyone who likes JRPGs on staff? Ignoring their feelings on the games/genre in general, it seems like they've all got a pretty huge knowledge gap when it comes to the genre.

I do agree he likes trolling, but check out the way he'll be in a discussion and then has to go back and have said discussion explained to him. Happens very often. I guess maybe he could have ADD/ADHD or something and just is distracted and missed out, but I feel like he's not very smart and just needs to hear things multiple times to process.

I think Dan is a smart guy that's just incredibly ignorant of a baffling number of things. I've certainly met people like him before, though, and I think he definitely plays it up a bit at times, but he seems to be genuinely himself for the most part. Like, he seems like the kind of guy that'd be great fun to hang out with, but I'm not sure I'd bother to have an in-depth discussion with him about anything that wasn't directly related to videogames or wrestling.

It doesn't really matter to me if it's trolling or not, I just don't like proud ignorance at all, fake or not.

Eh, he's not anti-intellectual at all while he's fucking around so it's all relatively harmless and fun. Not for everyone though I guess.
