Giant Bombcast - 03/17/15

The level of concern about Sony was hilarious. They actually think MS is poised to make a come back and Sony need to watch out cause Uncharted got delayed. America really is the whole world to some people.

They need to get it all out there before Bloodborne drops next week :P

I honestly don't have a problem with Jeff's dismissal of most Sony things. He has stated outright on multiple occasions that he just generally doesn't like Sony games, or that he just prefers Microsoft's first party IPs, and that's completely ok.

What I find ridiculous is when uses that bias as a basis for arguing that somehow Sony is "in trouble" because of their first party output, when the much more likely answer is that they're fine, they just aren't making things that appeal to him personally.

But seriously who the fuck says "yulk". Nobody.

You pronounce the L, period.

You're siding with a man who thought the shells of the egg were the "whites". I implore you to reconsider your pronunciation.

Even Jeff and Jason weren't on Brad's side.

Wow, Brad and Jeff's characterization of the Monster Hunter community is super off from my experience. I haven't known any super high level players to be dicks about it when newer players say or do incorrect things or criticize the game. Heck, most will usually agree with a lot of the criticism laid out. They're one of the nicest communities I've met. Sure there are shitty outliers, but that's just what happens when you have a large group of people. Some will be dicks.

Who else besides persona does teens save the world well. There are games that are good and have that trope, but who else makes that trope work for them?

Well, let's start with saying that that trope doesn't even define Persona. That's the focus of some of the games, but others are much more focused on other ideas for its main story.

As for other games that do it well, SMT in general works well in that trope. IV has a great story that deals with teens/YAs saving the world and so does Nocturne to a certain extent. The Tales games are very hit or miss story wise, but they definitely can pull that trope off when they really try to. Xillia 2 and Vesperia both have younger casts saving the world and have interesting stories. Some Fire Emblems also deal with that trope and deal with it well, though a lot of them do it to a smaller extent. Most of them deal with saving just their specific country, but I think they still qualify. There are other, perhaps even better examples, but those are the ones off the top of my head that came up.

Dan has to dress as Waluigi for one of these Mario Party videos.

I've honestly never heard it pronounced that way. I've lived in the northeast my entire life. Where are you from?

New Jersey / Philly

People who do not pronounce the L should have to wear some sort of badge or marking so that they can be easily identified, otherwise you might associate with them without knowing they pronounce words incorrectly.

I hope you don't have a South Jersey accent. Because if so you have no business telling people how to talk.

Listened to the first hour and I think Jason needs to be added in as a 5th chair just to be the Dan wrangler. He's so excellent at it and it's super entertaining. Dan is entertaining on his own...Jason completes him. I say 5th chair because I do love listening to Drew on the podcast and wouldn't want to see him go. He does and plays things the others would never dream of and I like being exposed to the interesting things he does.

I very much don't have any distinguishable accent, except for "American" as some Australian friends have told me.

I don't know of anyone who has a traditional "Jersey" accent, but I have noticed people pronouncing water as "wooter" and a person who pronounces milk in a way that sounds like "myilk".

These people were rounded up and sent south of the Mason Dixon.

Do you pronounce the "h" in herb? I hope so for your arguments sake. :P

I'm surprised there are people that don't like Drew. He doesn't talk much, but I always thought that whenever he shared something it was always really interesting to listen to.

The podcast doesn't need Jason, but I'd love to hear more from him. But obviously, he has his place in the crew.

I don't pronounce the H in herb, I DO pronounce the H in Herb(ert).

I don't pronounce the L in yolk just because it's there, but because you pronounce the L in other words that are spelled similarly, like "folk". Also other -LK words, like caulk, very much rely on the pronunciation of the L, lest you imply you are shooting white goo out of your "Cocking gun".

By your implied logic, I would pronounce bologna as "buh-log-nay" (which I may start doing ironically).

Drew can be really hard to listen to when describing things, he pauses constantly. I also don't find him as funny as the other guys. I hate to say that, as I do like him and I don't want to offend him if he reads these threads, but I'd say Jason would add more to the podcast (if it was between him and Drew).

Everything in this post goes against everything I've heard in the real world.

The l in folk is silent.

Ah, that's where your mistake seems to come from.

Joking aside, while it's possible to pronounce the l in certain dialects and people shouldn't flat out call that pronunciation incorrect, the majority pronunciation (both in RP and AmE, btw) is with a silent l.

It was hilarious the way Jason went in on Dan about Monster Hunter. Jason continues to be a really positive addition the team. Wish he could be on more bombcasts but I glad when he has time to join. He always seems to add something positive to the discussion.

Brad seems way too scared of monster hunter online, the community is amazing and playing with randoms is a lot of fun. I've never had anyone say anything unpleasant, and generally people are very friendly.

Multiplayer games with small groups where one person can screw things up tend to be pretty toxic with randoms but for some reason monster hunter isn't like that at all.

Going online really helps break up the solo quests and you can farm for mats really quickly if you get in a good group

less of you posting please
Since you want to make this about me, I basically stopped posting in the OT, so yeah.

Like I said in a previous thread, I regret buying 2 years of premium at this point since the only locked content is Dan-related content and I don't really like Dan on any of the stuff that GB puts out.

Don't forget when Dan didn't know about Frozen, the movie. How can someone go through life so oblivious?

What are you talking about? He's not an 8 year old girl and doesn't have kids. Why would he have heard of it?

It took me almost a year to understand why everyone was so in love with the Prince song Let It Go for some reason, and that research is also the only reason I've ever heard of the movie. Yet, I bring that up to people and they don't even know that Prince song somehow. It has nothing to do with being oblivious as much as it does with the fact that not everyone, especially grown adults, follow disney movies (or Prince's 90's output for some reason).

Brad is a goddamn Dota 2 player. Monster Hunter's online community is much nicer and more welcoming, while the game is less intimidating and less complex.

It's all excuses. (That said, I don't blame anyone not wanting to hardcore get into a MH game on 3DS. I expect we'll see many more people jumping in in a public way (streaming, YT etc) when a console version comes out).

I don't think it's a big deal to not know about it, but acting like only people who follow Disney movies would have heard about one of the biggest pop culture phenomena in recent memory is just lol.
