Giant Bombcast - 03/17/15

It's why I'm mostly in the Bombcast threads now. But I'm going to take Jason's advice and just completely ignore everything Dan says and not post about it anymore.

That said, I would still vastly prefer Jason to be on the podcast than not, and stand by my original statement that I prefer Jason to Dan (which is my post that I originally got quoted on) if there was some kind of "4 person only" rule on the podcast.

I actually agree. Dan's heel play is getting a bit much for me and Jason appears to have more interesting viewpoints to add to the discussion.

This is a silly line of discussion to even go down. Dan isn't a producer, there'd be no point to taking him off the podcast.

I must be missing where I said take him off the podcast... Care to point it out to me?

I agreed with another member's view of preferring Jason on the podcast... as well as stating I am growing tired of Dan's antics...

Well, you agreed with someone implying that Jason should replace Dan on the podcast.

Fair enough. Not quite what I took from the quote, but sure. That said, Dan being a producer has literally nothing to do with him being on or off, nor does it affect Jason being on or off.

Doesn't it? You don't think the need to have a producer do other work for those 3+ hours a week is part of the reason Jason isn't a regular? GB ran with a 5 man podcast crew for a long time in the Patrick/Ryan days.

How about: Brad & Jeff are regulars. Everybody else rotates in and out.

Dan is as much of a lock for the podcast as anyone. Since he's joined he's been involved in pretty much every piece of content that office produces, both premium and non-premium. He's at the center of current GB in a lot of ways.

Yes! If the new hire at GBeast doesn't play RPGs I'll be disappointed. I want someone that's excited about Xenoblade X dammit!
USgamer is that way.

I'm not even sure if there's anyone over at CBS as a whole who likes JRPGs since Carolyn Petit was let go. Probably just freelancers, I assume.

One of the requirements for the job was knowing Japanese, there's still hope :D
Oh really? Well, that should be interesting. All the known Japanese speaking JRPG people already have jobs though, so I'm not even sure who it could be - assuming it's not someone completely new altogether.

I don't know if its the same reason Jason isnt a podcast regular, but someone asked him on twitter why he isnt in more video stuff and he said he prefers being behind the scenes.

Well they could hire someone away, that's what happened in the past,

Jason on the podcast was good, he seems like a cool dude. Seeing someone not fall into the state of shock or bewilderment over basically anything Dan says was a nice change, heh.

Anyway, I was listening to the episode from last year where Brad hosted for the first time, and it made me curious. If there's a week where, for whatever reason, Jeff and Brad were both out... would we get a Drewcast? I bet that would be pretty cool.

Dan would host. Hahaha.

Anyone I can think of is mostly ex-1up/Retronauts people and IIRC they all seem to have good jobs in the press or the industry. That said, I have no idea who works at IGN or Kotaku or the other sites now, so maybe there's a new crop of Jeremy Parishes and Shane Bettehenausens and Chris Kohlers out there.

I want a 5 man podcast Jason is fucking good. Pro podcasting skills. Missed drew though I like his jokes and vibe.

Yolk and folk drop the l in uk

Dan intervention is always pleasent to hear as everytime they "break kayfabe" it stops me feeling like a crazy person in an alternate reality.

Was listening to 2013 Bombcasts. I really miss Vinny. :(
Want to be really sad? Listen to pre-2013 (or early 2013) podcasts with Ryan and Vinny still around.

That said, I really enjoyed the familiarity between Dan and Jason on this episode, and not just the "Jason's real talk" portion of it.

Jason in, Drew out. Every week plz!

I'm also convinced Dan is playing a persona on this show and half the shit he says is made up. Still entertaining though.

Once in a while I'll listen to the compilations that were made of the old Bombcasts.

I still think the CAX episodes are some of my favourites, including the Ryan is a narc episode. And if you count the E3 stuff as podcasts, then <> is probably the peak of the old era.

It's funny hearing Jeff complain so much about the X-2 battle system, isn't it considered one of the best in the series? All his other opinions about it are fair enough, (I think it gets way better after Shuyin is introduced properly) but I think he is missing something here. I get the impression that he isn't the one playing the game, it's his gf, so maybe that's why it just looks bad to him.

Yes. It and the leveling system. I may not like the rest of that game, but both of those things are on point.

A passive viewer of X-2 would certainly get the very worst parts of the game without any of the very best parts. It's a bizarre and silly entry in the series to be sure.

He did mention his GF hates it too but I bet she secretly loves the Dress Spheres like pretty much everyone else. I'd pay serious money to see Jeff do an Endurance Run of X-2.

Dan would host. Hahaha.

This would be a horrible nightmare, except that I would expect Dan to make up for all the times Brad shuts down wrassle talk. Twenty minutes of "what you playing" followed by thirty minutes of weird food discussion, then 2+ hours of wrestle-related emails.

They are for the Bombcast for as long as I remember. When Jeff had to sub for Ryan back in the day, he had to take over editing/emails/release duties. Then Brad took over and had to do the same thing. Same with Vinny too.

I could always tell a Jeffcast because the music would be more subdued when the show would start. Always a "fuck yeah" reaction from me.

They've been in the past. But anyone could really do it, especially if we're talking a one week emergency stop-gap.

Speaking of playing a character, Dan needs to go back and learn from the classics. I can't believe there is a Final Fantasy XV demo out there and we don't have Man God to hype it up :(

Jeff never really "produced" the podcast when he hosted. He uploaded it without doing any editing except for adding the theme at the start and the end.

Ryan spent hours editing out dead air and stuff like that every week. Brad does the same. So you don't have to spend a lot of time with it if all you want to do is get it up on the site.

same thing. he still had to be in charge of the podcast and also pick out the emails. every host can do whatever they want when they're hosting.

lol@ Sony dying this year talk.

Bloodborne being the only thing coming out in a while for Sony hasn't stopped/slowed them down.

Seriously...

The GB guys are huge Sony fanboys, they're worried because they love them. Like how Brad's contribution to the conversation about OS problems on the Xbox One was literally "I'm really worried about PS4 introducing Suspend/Resume".

This might be a little weird but I think Brad isn't so great with assembling the news. That football segment was filled with doubt. I know it's a rumor but when he started questioning why he put it in the segment, I was wondering why he did as well. It felt like a giant boondoggle!

On the flipside, he's awesome at e-mails!

I've come to really like Jason after experiencing him in more content. I definitely agree that he should be featured more on the Bombcast.

That said, I like Drew as kind of the dude who's more on the outside of things and not as deep into games as the other guys are/have been. I just wished he spoke up more and maybe asked more questions.

Drew is great because the other guys will play some stuff and talk about it and you're like, "man, I should check out that game" and then Drew is like "I went hiking/surfing/did some shit outside that wasn't playing videogames" and you're like, "man, Drew makes going outside sound pretty awesome!"

Plus I like it when someone brings up a topic and he goes, "...OHHH?"

All the Dan hate in here.
Dan is the best thing to happen to Giant Bomb in ages. I almost gave up on the bombcast when Vinny left, but Dan makes me glad I stuck with it.

Also anyone who thinks Dan is not playing a shtick should listen to Danswers. He's clearly a really smart guy who likes to joke around on the Bombcast.

Or peep his new self help book (the #1 self help book on Amazon right now lol). He's a pretty good writer.

I feel the same as you, though. Stopped listening to the Bombcast when Ryan passed, but Dan helped get me interested again. He's been great.

I had no idea anxiety as an ally was already on Amazon. Looks like I've got some reading to do.
