How does alignment work in this game? Is a Paladin companion going to leave or attack me I play a psychopathic rogue?

No alignment per se but Paladins and Priests both follow certain Gods/Orders that take the place as such. Not sure how that will play out with the companions though reacting your character.

Speaking of multiplayer, co-op. How was the co-op/multiplayer on original BG series? How do you even play multiplayer on BG? I've never tried it and it seemed way too convoluted for this type of game.

Are the UI elements resizeable?
I'm playing 6 ft away from a 24" TV, and I'll be struggling to read the texts and UI if they aren't scalable.

This doesn't have multi-player like the BG games, does it? It's strictly single player, right? As of right now, anyway.

Josh Sawyer said they never had any plans to have co-op and I believe he said on SA that the expansion will not have co-op either.

Alright, thanks for the quick responses folks. :D I did check Wikipedia and it, in fact, said it was just single player, but I wasn't sure if there was some nebulous sort-of-acknowledged existence of multi-player that wasn't mentioned that people here might know about. :P

Hmm I've been thinking about rolling Wizard for all this time and after looking over the skills I'm not digging the amount of cc given. I just want to be raw dps but not really interested in doing melee damage. I'm leaning towards druid (I've heard they do better dps anyway) right now but since a companion is druid it's tricky. I wouldn't be opposed to having 2 druids though.

Essentially the host player is the main character and does all the talking. The other player(s) control self-made companions throughout the story and control themselves during combat. I think its possible for both to control the ai companions? Or they're divided amongst the human players. I've only played BG2 multiplayer though, and only for a little while.

The EE multiplayer was pretty awesome to be honest. I still cringe when I see a "multiplayer would only hurt this kind of game" comment. I don't care how tacked on it was, it works and it honestly had an incredibly time playing though BG1/2 with friends. I hope to do the same real soon with IWD:EE.

Other players can also initiate dialogue. :)
You can assign control in a separate screen to AI companions.

It was clunky and my friends and I gave up after an hour or so. MP didn't really click until NWN.

I've been staying away from all media in fear of spoilers, but which are the non-companion classes? I made the mistake of picking a class from the companion pool in Original Sin and Dragonfall so I don't want to make the same mistake again.

Rogue, Barbarian and Monk

The BG series doesn't work that well in multiplayer since it's so story- and companion-driven. On the other hand, it's fantastic in IWD. I played the entirety of IWD (including expansions) in co-op in early 2014, and while a few things are a bit shaky in terms of implementation it's great overall.

Cipher or Rogue guys? I don't want to sit in the character creator for days before I actually play...
If it swings it for you, there's a
Cipher companion but no Rogue
. These are the two I'm still going back and forth on, though. I've got pretty fleshed-out concepts and sketched-out builds for both.

I guess on a sheer coolness level, a Rogue is unexpectedly hitting someone with, like, a knife or a gun or whatever. A Cipher is unexpectedly SHATTERING MINDS.

I think my rogue will have a pretty easy time shattering minds with my blunderbuss to the face.

I still don't know which class to pick, I need to see it ingame. Cipher seems the most interesting. I usually prefer "magical" characters for myself.

https://www.youtube.com/user/sdlufkin/videos Scott Lufkin did a decent overview of each class in the BB, going though the CC as well as some basic fights. This was as of v435 so there's been v480, the review candidate and finally whatever the release day patch changes, so some things will be different in terms of balance but overall it's still accurate in terms of feel and description for each.

lockpicking and trap disarming are tied to the "mechanics" skill that everybody has. Rogues get a +2 "mechanics" bonus, though. But you can have any other class as a lockpicker, if you want :P

This is good to know, I was afraid I was going to have to play as a Rogue because there wasn't an NPC Rogue. I always like to play as the Wizard type character in these types of games because that's what I used to play as back in the day when I played D&D.

You still get access to the extras when you pre-load (Almanac, Collect's Guidebook, etc.)

True, why they couldn't give the rewards to us already still bugs me. I could be sitting here in bed reading delicious bits of lore while eating delicious bits of food that Tim Cain taught me how to make, but instead I'm sitting here with you jabronis.

Noooo I still want to play Cities Skylines :-\

There aren't enough hours in the day to play both games.

Pillars takes priority.

It warms my heart though to see both Cities Skylines and Pillars of Eternity at the top of Steam's best selling games. Two genres of PC centric games long ditched by big publishers doing just fine!

Most definitely. Not that I have completely swore off triple A releases, but I rather see more mid-sized game to succeed on Steam. (especially PC-only releases)

I wonder how much letting all these people stream the game is helping them. I dont imagine it shows particularly well especially with some dude trying to yuck it up and crack jokes or whatever. I guess it's getting the word out that it exists tho so that's cool.

I don't think PoE is that great of a game for streaming purposes because there is so much text in the game. I think the point was to get some more eyeballs on the game than would have not been there if they weren't being streamed

Hey! Dont complain. You could also be me, struggling to finish NWN 2 because all the death triggers arent working properly.

You might be surprised how much actually seeing a game being played can influence a purchase... or, at least, it works on me rather well. Plus more awareness and buzz won't hurt sales at all.

Or is this just a stealth "i am incensed that previewers got a key before me" type of post?

Well I mean since they allowed streaming the game has climbed to the top 10 sellers on Steam. Currently number 3.

Granted, part of those purchasers are just it being released soon folks, but it most certainly has helped with some purchases.

no Im definitely not upset about that. Whatever helps them get the word out and sells copies I'm all for just hoping that it's effective.

Does MIG somehow effect the damage of any units a chanter were to summon? I think I want to main one and try to go super tanky, relying on summons to deal out some damage so I can put more points elsewhere.

Obsidian forum is just filled with manchildren crying about not getting the game before reviewers. I wonder how Obsidian really feels about having to deal with vitrolic negativity from people that mostly couldnt make a salient game design point unless its just a permutation of "not like IE games."

Sadly, it's still 57 hours. #keepingtrack

Obsidian forums are almost as bad as Bioware forums.

Nah, who am I kidding, they're not that bad.
