Bloodborne Reviews Thread

Look at all those 9's. My copy is "out for delivery" in my area, so it looks like I'll be in tonight.

FUCK waiting till Friday in the UK, i went through the mild rigmarole of creating a US PSN account, getting a PSN credit code off Amazon, and downloading from there.

20 quid cheaper and i'll play it in a few hours. Hurrah for no region locking!

How big is the game? My internet is shite but I could be persuaded to do this if it didn't take too long to get it

I was going to enjoy this game anyway, but I'm glad to see it review well and I hope From gets rewarded with sales. So glad these games caught on and grew long legs.

Now all that stands between me and Bloodborne is a day of mostly screwing off at work.

This little bullet point from Klepek's Kotaku "impressions" has me worried:
  • Does the distinct lack of loot mean Bloodborne lacks customization? Hard to say.

I've been on complete media blackout from the game (except for this one impression).... and searched through the whole thread for an answer (didn't find one): Is there any loot in the game? Are we not going to be able to play FashionBorne just like FashionSouls? Am I not going to freak out when I can't get a Black Knight Halbred to drop off the first one?!?!

Well, dammit.

I got about 4 hours into Demon's Souls before deciding it wasn't for me.

I got to Blight Town in Dark Souls, and couldn't take the horrendous framerate and stupid poison dart-spamming enemies.

Now I'm seriously considering buying Bloodborne. What the hell is wrong with me?

I'll translate the two opening paragraphs for those who are curious:

Not much about the actual game, but lets you know where he's coming from.
I don't have a spell checker so sorry for that

Why is he whining about fans of and popularity of games like SotC and UC2 in a review for Bloodborne?

So sad that I'll only be able to buy this game next month.

Awesome scores for an awesome game. These guys from From (lol) really know what they are doing.

Didn't we have a thread of a now (permanent) banned member that explained how he was trolling user reviews on Metacritic as a competition with others?

I think I remember reading that but then he had his username changed. :D

If we were to use grades 90-92: A-, 93-96: A, 97+: A+. So just degree of excellence I guess. Kinda how in college a 90 is an A but not a good A.

Not a good analogy since metacritic is an aggregate.

Unlike a grade on a college exam, you're never going to get 30 plus different reviewers from around the globe to all agree the game is a 10/10.

I don't think that's ever actually happened, a 100% is an impossible bar.

Anything above a 90 should be considered "excellent", and there's no real difference between 2 points here or there. Hell, most reviewers aren't even using the same scale. One might give it a 4.5 out of 5, another a 9 out of 10.

Surprised there weren't more shock value/ click bait reviews though I suppose they still could happen. More surprised sites are taking their time to review it post launch with all of the online components. Chalice dungeon is a fascinating beast that could really transform the game post launch.

Sony own the IP i think, but sony also owns the Demon's Souls IP and that didnt stop that from makes a deal with a third party to release dark souls multiplat and now most of people thinks that the "genre" starts with dark souls lol.

The only reason why that happened was because Sony didn't have any confidence in Demon's Souls leading to release in Japan/Asia. Bloodborne on the other hand is pretty getting all the attention from Sony in terms of support and marketing.

Really though, people are repeating the same crap over and over again.

Before Bloodborne was announced, it was pretty much "Sony fanboy's are dreaming! There's no way From would ever do an exclusive with Sony ever again!"

It's like people refuse to believe that Sony could ever fund an exclusive made by a third party.

The game seems incredible. Pretty much universal praise and people are still complaining about the one or two random review scores that are low.

Those people are what's wrong with gaming today.

Two points.
And what do those two points mean?

Regardless of them, this is universal acclaim. When I look at reviews I don't look at scores, I look to see if the reviewers actually liked the game in general. 2 points is meaningless at this score.

Sounds like you're caught up in the hype. I've never played a souls game but it sounds like they're not for everyone.

There is nothing wrong with being suspicious about clickbait reviews.
Or wondering why they assigned someone who doesn't like a particular genre to review it.

It happens a lot, get over it.
There is also the opposite issue of having fans be the ones reviewing something. Or even worse if the publisher requests specific reviewers.

Looks like I have a lot of reading/watching to do, since my copy from Amazon won't be around until 3-5pm EST probably.

But so far I'm very pleased seeing a game (this one or not) get such great scores and not that surprised by it from what I've seen of the streams.

Edit: Top of page in a review thread? Uh oh.

Weapons don't drop at random, so you don't end up with a speed run path that fails half the time, and you don't end up with a thousand broken short swords.

The loot you do get are consumables and upgrade materials.

I have four full outfits already and I'm only three bosses in. The FashionBorne will be strong.

Druckmann/Straley have not earned their 'GOAT' stripes yet. Yes, TLOU is wonderful but I think we should see how UC4 turns out before we carve their names on stone.

Its not about GOAT, its top directors working now, like what have you done for me lately kind of thing but also taking into account history.

GET OUT OF MY BRAIN CHARLESSS

Am I in your head, or am I secretly your third alt 0.o
