Just engaged in some jolly co-operation and helped someone beat
gascoigne

so I decided to go back to the boss area since it's the nearest lamp and was immediately attacked by
a hunter who I presume is an NPC, an NPC hunter was also there helping me but I did negligible damage and got fodderized. Can't warp back to that lamp now, guessing it's an event.
Think I'll need to get mah lvls up before returning.

The code is all caps right? Just want to make sure.

It also took me a bit to realize where to put it in. The System menu wasn't very obvious until I actually looked for it.

I did all caps just to be safe, since thats how it looks in the OP. After hearing others results though...I might just leave my summoning open.

I played my first, 20 or so hours using mostly the cane. I still adore it*. If you learn it you'll be fine.

*
The whip aspect becomes problematic vs foes you need to retaliate against quickly, but the cane mode does fine there. I'd probably still be using it very often if I didn't fall in love with the daggers. It's still usually my second weapon, only losing attention because my rune and fortify focus has been on the daggers.

If you're interested, give it a shot. By the time you know if its for you or not you'll be able to replace it with plenty. So little to lose for potentially a fun, effective sleek weapon that is, for serious lack of a more apt term, seriously cool.

Exactly what I wanted to know. Great. Going Professional and using cane. Ready for some Puzzling Stone Sword/Old Whip PVP technique practice. This game.

I don't want to start it up :lol it should be at around 22gb. I mean, it's simply not going to finish before midnight - but at least it won't say "fuck you" in the middle of the game... right? RIGHT? :lol

My hope for you is that the game is smart enough to utilize and prioritize the downloaded data properly as you progress.

My fear, however, is that it doesn't matter to the game if you've downloaded only the 5 GB playgo portion or 25 out of 30 GB and it just locks you out after a certain spot unless the game is 100% installed.

o.O really.... if so that is odd seeing as the DS4 already has a gyroscope in it

that and some of those commands were touchpad swipes

Yeah, I don't know for sure. I thought I saw someone say something about the camera here earlier. I've waved and rubbed the dang thing around every which way and nothing has worked.

I'm afraid.

:(

edit: hold on here, look at this quote:
I was at 12GB at unlock last night and I did character creation and some of the beginning areas without issue before going to bed. You should be ok for a bit of playing.
I mean, I'm 10gb over his 12gb. I should be fine!!

lol I see

alrighty then I'll just forget about it :)

To do the motion-gestures, you have to hold down X or some other button and then wave the controller. At least I think that's how it was in the previous games.

Oh okay thanks :)

Well... this was satisfying. :D

edit - Yoshichan dont spaz out. :D You have more than half a game preloaded. You can start playing the game when it unlocks, and the rest will download in the background. RELAX.

Noobiest question, but I'm not even ashamed: How the hell do I repair?

Workbench by some bookshelf inside the Hunter's Dream house.

Also again for Cleric, you dont have to gunparry it, just hit it dead in the face when its stunned from doing one of its heavy attacks.

Am I to assume the
Cleric Beast
is the first boss? Got to him after blindly stumbling through the entire are on my third or fourth life.

Where is the shortcut you are all mentioning? Too engrossed to dig through the thread, haha.

Holy shit!

I take back what I said about Kirkhammer. Fortified mine twice and it's killing the fatties with R1 L1 R1 combo. Can't go back to Saw Cleaver.

Go down the stairs on the left of the werewolves if you're facing the boss.

Beat the first two bosses. Took a while.

First boss I beat on my 3rd try. I figured out the gun/riposte trick on him but generally beat him without by staying behind him most of the fight. Camera was kinda wonky in the fight as were the hitboxes. Second boss fight I encountered immediately afterwards. Its final form kept wrecking me, hard to dodge. Took about 5-6 attempts until I figured out that Gun Riposte owns both forms heavily. Then the boss fight became a breeze once I had enough bullets to take him on.

Overall I am having fun with the game. Game isn't too hard, I don't feel like I get killed by cheap stuff as much as in Dark Souls 2. Way less cheap traps, enemy ganking up on you and crazy hitboxes on attacks. The dodge in this game is really nice, I don't miss the old sword/board playstyle of Daek Souls at all.

Game feels more streamlined. Less items to manage, everything seems fairly straightforward like the new hub. There are fewer weapons but they feel more special especially with the transformations.

Only downside are the load times. I am not dying as much I did starting out when I was still learning the mechanics of the game but it's still annoying.

This is still a Souls game through and through. Gotta be patient in combat, can't ge careless trying to take down trash enemies. The health regain system is awesome, it means I can get by using less potions and be rewarded for playing a little offensive. Potions are fine, they over stack in your inventory so I have had no problems having between 15-20 vials throughout the game (against bosses I end up dying before I use 5 vials, I just farm the 5 on the way to the boss so I am full).

Playing Lone Survivor with the Kirk Hammer lvl20.

Been having trouble inviting people into games. I have been doing this all solo, I kinda want to play with another person just a couple of times to get a feel of the co op. If anyone has any suggestions then please let me know.

I feel like calling a boss by "first" or "second" doesn't really apply to the game, at least not in the beginning. "First boss" might mean something different to different people.

You can go back and retrieve them at least. :)

Plus, 4500 echoes honestly is not a huge amount. It sucks, but it wouldn't take a whole lot to grind that back.

If you desperately need echoes and can't get back to where you died, I generally just play through a small section of a level to get 1-2k souls, head back to the lantern, go back to the dream, then back. Rinse and repeat.

Of course, make sure that you then use those echoes. You never want to be running around with a bank of echoes if you can help it. If you run near a lantern, just bite the bullet, use it, level up, and head back into the area. Sure, the enemies respawn, but you're now a higher level so it will become easier.
I died after that again :(

I also haven't seen another lantern after the Central Yharnam one, so I'm still in that starting area every time I die.

Is Iosefka's Blood Vials rechargeable in some way?

Me too, the cleric beast keeps destroying me, I am glad I got that shortcut so I can make it back there fairly quickly and painlessly
I used oil+molotovs. Does about 300 of damage each. I couldn't time well the parries against it.

Gasviscogne is much easier to parry.

Just beat 2nd boss. Love the shortcuts in this game. Its like Dark Souls again. Everything is connected.

Does anyone know how to get the fedora thing in the digital version? (asking for a friend)

The hats for the floor messenger guys? You need to go to the PS Store to download it first. Then go to the Hunter's Dream behind the building. See here.

The voice test when creating your character is so awesome. I was laughing so hard at the grunts and blood curdling screams. Also does anyone know what's up with the villagers in the first part? I keep hearing them say help me and stuff like that while they are attacking me and they are burning a werewolf but then they attack you?
