Lol, screw that! Past 2nd boss spoilers:
I made my way in Old Yharnam to the gatling guy. He ended up killing me the first time. I went back and got my souls and started fighting him again. It was going horribly. I started sprinting in a circle and just got back on the ladder and ran away, lol. Yeah...I'll be back to kill him later.

Was getting into the co-op session easy? I don't get it, I've had the small bell equipped, GAF's password, and been waiting in boss spots and everywhere else and can't find anyone.

Once I asked for help, sure. Before that, wasn't even using PW and was waiting a good bit. So switched to the PW and asked.

Think current issue is that others don't really have that co-op bell yet. Esp since it requires 10. Since I've asked for help, I only have 9 instead of 10, so still can't buy it/etc. So others might have same issue.

Oh course granted, game has only been out for 24 hours for the vast majority. So once people learn more about the game, will become easier to co-op, hopefully.

First ever Souls game.

2 hours and no progress was made past the Cleric Beast.

Is this normal or do I objectively suck real hard at this?

Did you beat the Cleric Beast? If so you are doing great. If not, you are still doing great. There's a pretty big difficulty curve for any first time Souls player.

I have the full Hunter's outfit and am level 14 since I used one of the items to gain Insight and make the doll come alive.

Still haven't found the first boss yet.

FUCK.

YES.

First boss DOWNED motherfuckers. Holy shit that was an intense fight. And only on my second try, too. Level 11 Cruel Fate with a cane, took his ass down solo. I still haven't quite gotten the timing down on stagger/visceral attacks, which led to a few hairy moments but I pulled it out. Phew. I think that's a good stopping point for the night.

God I love From Software. God I love these games.

Put the disc in the drive like 20 minutes ago. Immediately checked for update. Starts downloading. Went from 40 minutes to an hour for the ETA. My internet is fine...the hell lol

For any player i would say. The first two bosses are harder than anything in Demon Souls or Dark Souls.

Well, I already got the 10, so it costs me nothing to search for people who are looking. I even put no password on and still can't find anyone.

took me about 3-5 mins to join in after ringing the bell.what your level right now?

19.

Assuming you've unlocked the shortcut from the bridge to the lamp (the one where you run through the house), if you come up on the bridge, to your left will be ravens and the orge thing and the right will be the two wearwolves, go left past the ravens and that's where the 1st boss is.

Also, its not before the hunter's outfit since that's a deadend anyway.

It wasn't a dead end for me, I just casually walked forward and landed safely. Lol, but it did help me make another shortcut, thanks so I'm close it seems.

Pa4 wifi is 2.4 ghz, it's pretty shitty, I'd recommend hard wiring yourvpa4 if at all possible. Maybe check out powerline adapters

Anyone else keep trying to beat the first werewolf with their hands before realising where the weapons were? I must have gone back to him at least 5 times, was getting him close to death too before I figured it out.

Preach it. Second boss took me over 10 attempts. I was on the third boss for 3-4 hours.

My souls habits won't die. I keep trying to block only to transform my weapon. And I keep throwing pebbles instead of healing.

I'm so weak.

Eh....I don't think either of them are as tough as the Capra Demon

I beat Capra Demon first try. I still don't remember how.

What level would people recommend for a little bit later boss:
Vicar Amelia
? Trying to decide if I should do side quest-y stuff before trying the fight...

Edit: if fighting solo only

Had a marathon session today, back to work tomorrow. So far, I've killed
Cleric Beast, Father, Vicar, Blood-Starved and The Witches

Lots of exploring, got sucked over to
Hypogean Gaol
unexpectedly while exploring. Place is terrifying, and stumbled onto
Dark Beast
before nope nope nopeing out of the area to explore elsewhere.

Had one PvP fight which was fun, and a bunch of co-op. Loving the game, curious to see if it'll hold up on the replayability front, or be more of a stand-alone 1 off expierence.

Oh yeah, I totally agree. I had to spend a good part of the night farming for vials, bullets, and antidotes and shit totally sucked. Estus flasks were much less frustrating.

Put some points into Arcane - I started as the Cruel Fate with a higher Arcane and so far haven't had any issues with Bullet/Vial quantity. I just expended a good chunk of my stash on the first boss though, so.

Buy them in hunters dream for 10 blood each.you know you can run past the wolves and head left right into the house? You can skip them and find a shortcut so you don't have to fight wolves before the first boss

I haven't seen any wolves. I keep dying at the big bonfire area with lots of mobs.

Yeah I kept trying to beat it with my hands and thought that's what people meant when they said this game was hard

Anyone coop in old yarnham? Runs at a solid 10fps haha. There a lot going on in that area though, it's awesome.

Yeah the FPS tanks hard there on co-op. It stuttered a bit even on solo in the opening area too.

The boss seems to act really weird online too. It has a lunging attack but online it skips the animation and looks like it teleports.

I played for 2 hours and most of the time could barely get past the first big group of enemies. When I did I would get killed on the bridge. I feel like I've barely completed the tutorial. My timing feels all off. I can't dodge or counter shit.

you actually don't have to
fight the wolves on the bridge. There's a shortcut that goes all the way around it, by the house with the ladies laughing behind the big dude banging on the double door.

Once I unlocked that it saved me a bunch of time going back and forth.

No kidding. I'm a souls veteran and I didn't even attempt the boss for 3-4 hours because I was exploring...

I feel like From started the characters a bit too low in skills. The game really opens up once you have about 5-10 levels worth of upgrades and I have a feeling many will quit before they get there.

Okay.

So is there a reason one of the dogs near the bridge wont die? he's at zero health and wont die no matter how much I lay into him...

I haven't seen any wolves. I keep dying at the big bonfire area with lots of mobs.

Don't rush into the middle of that area. Stay to the upper right and left sides. Those areas are narrower and you won't get flanked from every which direction. Move up slowly, make sure nothing is behind you, be patient and tackle one enemy at a time.

You'll get it, trust me. Try to start with the upper right side.

Just take it easy and pick off the enemies one by one and you'll get past them. I had trouble at that point but I managed to take them out. And if you feel like you can't do it, you can always dodge and run past them!

No blood or ammo left. This is fun.

You know you can buy it with souls right? I bought ammo/health when I was afraid I was gonna lose them when going to the next area. Now I have so many that when I get the off a corpse, it gets sent to the Dream inventory.

Seems like you need to step up your game and not rely too much on those 2 things.

Ah yeah that area was painful for me with the cane, was much easer when I restarted with the axe. You can acully hold circle to run and run past the whole group. The exit is on the left side of the bonfire because the wooden door in the middle is locked. If you run far enough the enemies in the middle will stop chasing

I like this game, or seems like it can get deep early on, it's interesting, and I'm getting better and I get a little further each time I die.

But I'm not sure how many times I can play the same section before I give up on the first level. Never played souls so the only reference I have is god hand for hard games like this.

Did you beat the Cleric Beast already? If so, you are making damn good time.

I'm a Souls vet and this game is manhandling me most of the time. You are doing just fine.

Thank you for the kind words, but no I have not beat the Cleric Beast. In fact I'll be luck if I survive the two wolves. Even with molotovs.

Is there an additional lamp checkpoint thing between Central Yarnham and the Cleric Beast?

I actually think rushing into the middle is a good strategy. If you do that you aggro everyone except the two up on the left side and the dog. By doing this you can lure them all back to a bottle neck letting you take on only 1-2 at a time.

Do you have the hunter armor? Go into the sewers and go down to the bottom level where the rats are and follow the path.
