To all those people about "should I use my blood vials" , "how to go get home when I have xyz souls", "what weapon to upgrade" , "should I upgrade weapons or my character?" - Why don't you just try out? :D

That's a huge part of the game for me. Just grow balls and run into a dark area to check. Read item descriptions so you'd find out, that you have items that teleport you back to the last used lamp without soul loss etc.

I mean come on, you are like little children sometimes :D :D

I keep struggling early on near the bonfire with so many enemies. Any tips besides "don't suck"? I got to the asshole with the brick once then ate it.

Using saw cleaver. May start over and go cane.

I was there my friend. Just lure them out with pebbles take on one at a time. The guy at the door is easy if you get a sneak attack power hit in. Just keep at it. I get to bonfire now and bum rush all of them and lay waste.

Btw... screw the axe. I started another game as a strength build to try the axe and I don't see this buff in damage you guys are talking about.

Threaded cane scales (C) with dex after two upgrades and gives you the choice of thrust attacks and complete crowd control... it's awesome. Also has two nasty transformation attacks.
Cane+2 scales (B) with Skill attribute iirc. It's the goat weapon as far as I'm concerned thanks to its versatility.

The game says it's auto-saving when there is an icon in the bottom right, has anyone ever seen this?

When does the game actually save? Is it only when I return to the dream?

Any of your personal tips for taking down the cleric boss? I haven't leveled up yet but did upgrade my Cane whip thing (can't remember the name).

Game keeps saving, you can leave the game whenever you want.

yeah seems to me like they ran out of clever names and just started giving them numbers lol. apparently there are items called thick cold blood. It wouldn't be the end of the world to get 20k souls. Theres an ok run from second boss lamp to first lamp that gives you like 2k+. If there's no better run I guess I'll do that one once I have the schematics

The number is just the quantity. There are different named items as usual depending on how much echoes they give.

I've never had a player's death specter work in an area besides the Hunter's Dream. Kind of annoying since that was always one of my favorite ways to look ahead at potential danger.

The Bad:

Here is where I may say a few things against popular opinion. Why on Earth any developer / designer thinks it is appropriate to put a save point (the first one in the game, no less) right before a part of the game where you have to fight no less than probably 20 enemies is a good idea is beyond me. This creates nothing at all but frustration. I spent 15 minutes working my way through that mob of enemies in the area surrounding the gigantic bonfire 3-4 times only because I would get stuck on some debris, stuck between a horse carriage, etc. and killed. The fact that these enemies have patrols (and are slow as F) makes it take even longer.

Then when you do get past that part, there is no other save point to be found. Going back to the previous one only sends you to the hunters dream, meaning all enemies respawn. I appreciate difficulty, I hate how modern games are easy, but to design this section, the FIRST in the entire game, this way is just a poor choice in my opinion. Granted, these enemies are mostly easy, but I am all the way to the Cleric Beast and I still haven't found a second save lantern. THERE IS A SHORT CUT you can open up, so that helps.

I also disagree that "all your deaths are always your fault". I've had several occasions where an enemy goes into an attack frenzy and I am "animation locked" as in the game wont let me roll away OR attack back. I don't see how dying in that situation is my fault. You could argue it's my fault I got into that situation (this was a new enemy, no idea what his attacks would be) but the game gives me no way out.

You do realize the game you're playing right? I take it your are a DS virgin? If you get caught by an attack that animation locks you it is definitely your fault for not dodging.

Never played a Souls game before this. I went in blind basically and I played for about 4 hours last night. I got my shit wrecked hard. I made zero progress for about 2 hours since I couldn't level up yet. I finally checked a thread online and saw what was required to allow me to start levelling up and BOOM, I'm in business. My next run I made a mad dash to the first boss, just ran from every enemy, fought the boss, got stomped, but thats ok because now I can level up! Did a couple more quick runs just to get some Blood Echoes and raise a stat or 2 then I had to get in bed. While I was in bed I watched Epic Name Bro's first part of his playthrough video (It covered only areas I'd already seen, I wouldn't have watched it if it got into things that were spoilers for me). Having watched his video I now feel like I have a better handle on things, parrying, comboing, dodging and just the overall flow of combat. Now I'm stuck at work and can't wait to go play again and utilize some of my new knowledge. It's been a long long time since I've been this pumped up about a game, I could barely get to sleep last night, my body was still just tense like a live wire.

Sitting here getting ready for work and all I can think of is calling out so that I can play more Bloodborne. This is nuts. Help me purge these evil thoughts, GAF.

Here are my first impressions of the game after 3-4 hours:

The Good:

- Graphics are nice, creepy, and the atmopshere is amazing. Animations are pretty good and the sense of danger is ever present.
- The combat, for the most part, is fluid and fun.
- Enemy design and level design are incredible. Turning, twisting, claustrophobic...just great.

The Bad:

The blood on the ground of fallen allies also works about 1 out of every 10 times I click on them. If this is a mechanic designed to assist players, it needs to actually function.

In addition, I have some questions:

The game says it's auto-saving when there is an icon in the bottom right, has anyone ever seen this?

When does the game actually save? Is it only when I return to the dream?

Any of your personal tips for taking down the cleric boss? I haven't leveled up yet but did upgrade my Cane whip thing (can't remember the name).

1) You should have learned that there are better ways to deal with that giant mob. Use pebbles to lure them out slowly or go to the stairs and from behind. You are supposed to learn from your mistakes so that eventually you will be able to do the entire level and boss in one go. Shortcuts make it less of a burden.

2)You got stunlocked. Its the same thing you do to enemies when you consecutively hit them. Another reason why you should be wary of mobs which can quickly lead to death or enemies with quick combos.

3) Game is constantly saving every action you do.

explain your strategy pls. I've run with groups of 3 that couldn't beat him

Gascoigne's armor has the highest poison resist, and I was wearing that because of the poison enemies in Old Yarnam. That probably helped a little. I did use an antidote during the fight though. I just dodged under his right arm (your left) and only attacked him when it was safe. The right arm single-claw swipe is the best. The one where he goes flying is impossible to counter-hit him from. The one where he stands up and swipes 4-5 times just follow his back until he calms down and hit him twice then dodge out and get ready again. That's what I did and it worked.

Sometimes I feel like that's the people going on a complete media blackout until release and then just asking all the questions anyway. :P

Of course that's probably not true at all.

It saves your actions, if you open a door and then die, when you go back the door will still be open.

This gaaaaaaaaaaame. I'm absolutely over the moon with how much in feels like a love letter to Demon's Souls, yet brings with it Dark Souls' incredible level design. I love that the freedom from Dark Souls has been retained. I remembered vaguely from the trailers where the first boss was going to be, so I buggered off like a coward in a different direction (channelling brave Sir Robin) and found lots to explore. After a few opened gates, levelling, and some quality hunter couture later, I was still able to accomplish a lot in an evening without fighting a boss.

I'm also finding I'm enjoying Bloodborne's combat over the Souls games, which I wasn't expecting. There has been some fantastic enemy placement, often accompanied by intimidating (and informative!) sound design. Of course, audio cues are purposefully not everything. With one enemy it was only a shadow moving across the ground that clued me into the fact that it was sneaking up behind me.

The colour palette and the beauty of the Hunter's Dream is so fantastic, too. Returning there always feels like a breath of fresh air after the duller, claustrophobic shades of brown from the city.

I had thought the plain old Bloodborne loading screen was going to be irritating, but now I feel like it's a nice time to ruminate on the stupid, impulsive decision I generally made that had caused me to die horribly. Demon's Souls had those beautiful loading screens to distract yourself with, and both Dark Souls games were always informative. Meanwhile, Bloodborne's loading screen is just you and the game. The game that judges you. Very, very slowly.

Also, why are ground crows a thing? Seriously. Why are they a thing?

Where do you get the bell that lets you be summoned to another player's game?

You need 10 insight, if you have it go to the dream and into the building. Go out the doorway opposite the storage and theres a fountain with messengers in it who sell you stuff in exchange for insight. The bell is one of the items they sell.

As the father of two kids under the age of eight I assure you they are quite adventurous and have little to no regard for consequences or the safety of themselves or any other living being or property whatsoever.

So I dabbled with Demon Souls when it came out, I liked it but only played maybe a few hours. Nothing really clicked for me.

BloodBorne though.. Holy shit.. I spent 6 hours last night plowing through Yarnham and I know that place like the back of my hand now. it's truly an amazing feeling to not only level up your character but know your skill is also improving.

Amazing fucking game, it's consuming my thoughts when I'm not playing.

Weird experience with difficulty for me.

The game itself feels a little more difficult than the other Souls games, but the first two bosses feel about average, maybe a little easier than what I'm used to. I suppose if you had to rank their difficulty among all Souls bosses then they wouldn't even rank midtier for me. I died a couple times to both, but their attack patterns were pretty easy to figure out which allowed me to chip away or parry as needed.

Speaking of parrying, it feels really easy this time around. Probably because there is a big audio cue from the blunderbuss which lets me anticipate when I can counter thanks to the brief delay from firing.

So I came across someone asking me for a safe place, and the only option I could say was 'no'. I've beaten the first 2 bosses (but not progressed passed the 2nd boss area) and explored as much as I can - am I missing something?

Haha, you sound like me during Undead Burg in Dark Souls. "Why do I have to keep fighting these enemies, why isn't there a save point in front of the boss!? Why can't I dodge at any time? Why do my weapon animations take so long?!" I eventually fell in love with the game.

Once you get it, you get it. The best way to imagine the game is like older NES games: A level is the point from the bonfire to the boss. If you mess up along the way, it's back to the bonfire. No different than older games in this respect.

Welcome to the addiction of your life.

Cane+2 scales (B) with Skill attribute iirc. It's the goat weapon as far as I'm concerned thanks to its versatility.

Is it B? lol even better. I upgraded my skill to 20 (started with the class with highest skill rating) right off the bat and sunk some shards into the upgrades... cane is awesome. :)

I like how they put the scale-bonus emphasis on trust attack too. So you have some reason to use it as a thrust weapons, instead of just going God of War all the time.

It's a C scale in Skill

Do you recall what regular R1s hit for on mobs early with the professional class? When i tried the cane I was Military Veteran (13 skill) and hit for about 70-85 somewhere in there.

What makes you think you HAVE to fight them? I've watched plenty of streams of people in that same area simply and comfortably run past all of those enemies on their repeat tries to the boss until they got out of aggro range. If what you're doing isn't working or is frustrating, it's always good to try a different approach. You have nothing to lose but your blood.

Nah you'll eventually come to a
cathedral where the person there says to "tell anyone you know that they can be safe here". Then you go back to the lady, talk to her, and she'll go there.

That's why I didn't say I like it for its attack power or dps, but versatility. It's the fastest weapon out of the starting ones and has an excellent move-set for trick play.
It is, without a doubt, the classiest starting weapon at least. We're not beasts, after all.

You know, the same exact thing happen to me, every time I die I use those 30s of loading to rest and think about what happened... or curse. :P

Easiest spot to farm Twin Bloodstone Shards that I've found is right outside the Cathedral lantern.
Just run straight out of the exit from the lantern, make a right and kill the enemy that's there, and then keep going right until you reach the corner. There's a pretty hard hitting hobo/witch type enemy, but it drops TBS regularly, and occasionally the common version.

When I die a lot the loading screens are brutal. Good thing this thread moves so fast... And then I have to beat the same chain of enemies again and try to get back to the last place I died to try and pick up my lost blood echoes... Brutal!

No actually it scales B after you upgrade it to Cane+2.
