So, all Bloodborne players who haven't played Souls before, how's it going?

The boss was behind the big guy surrounded by birds.

Thanks for quoting him. I'm also in the sewer area already and noticed the enemies were getting stronger. That's why I was asking myself if it is actually possible to skip a boss or if all paths lead up to a boss fight in the end. Looks like I need to go back then :)

I can't stop dying. The combat hasn't really clicked for me yet.

I also haven't been using my pistol enough.

You don't really need the pistol in the first few hours I think. At least I didn't use it at all and focused on learning the different attacks with my main weapon. Do you know about switching the weapon mode with L1? Maybe that will help you already.
Other than that, what worked extremely well so far is approaching an enemy, dodge as soon as he attacks and then go all in. Just be careful (especially with groups), I'm sure you'll figure it out soon :)

Just want to say, there's no shame in coming in here and saying your not feeling it.

There's a foregone conclusion that these game's appeal is limited based on the uncompromising nature of the game design. You don't have to feel like your doing something wrong by saying that your having a hard time or not really enjoying the game

Conversely, most everyone had a hard time on their first Souls game. I admit to some controller throwing in Dark Souls. But now that I've played them all, it's hard to love them any more than I do. It was an acquired taste for me, but I'm happy I endured the frustration to discover how great these games are.

I guess I didn't see that one. Complaining about a respawn point 28 seconds away from a boss is a new one to me. *shrug

I mean, I guess if it was just the running around time I'd be OK with it. Add in the 30 - 40 seconds of loading though and it becomes kind of a nuisance (especially with the amount of times I'm dying).

Well, I'm pretty sure everyone wants the load times to be shorter. So you aren't alone...
Hopefully they'll be able to figure out a patch for it.

Also, stop dying so much. Problem solved! :)

I'm loving it. When I first started the game I felt that i would never get but I didn't give up and little by little it all started to make sense. This game stole my heart and made me a very proud supporter.

Well I played for a few hours last night when I found some time and I can't get past the first street that has like 20 dudes on it. So it's going poorly to say the least

Try
waiting for them to split up and patrol. You can pick off the patrols one by one and thin them out to make it easier. You can also get them one at a time by using bullets to pull them.

I played a couple hours of dark souls and this seems much easier so far. Idk maybe I've just adapted.

One thing I see a lot posted from newbies is ohan I can't get past these 2 monsters...just hold the run button lol

As for DSII vs BB, the asset density in this game is a lot higher than any other Souls game, environments are so full of stuff and detail. It's not just trivial to add all that stuff.

So very true - work was put in, and it shows.

Souls games all have very large worlds that seamlessly transfer between areas, and you can often see future/past areas very far into the distance, whereas The Order is very linear and uses cutscenes to load small areas that are very blocked off.

And the normal enemy AI is so much smarter too. A very welcome improvement there.

was having problems until i discovered the charged attack of the axe. Now the game is a cakewalk so far. just finished the 2nd boss.

Only played a little bit of Demon's Souls. Couldn't get into Dark Souls for some reason.

But I've been grinding away and just beat the claric beast. Figured out how to parry around him as he attacked, and hit him when you jump behind him.

Fun game and it's nice to have a challenge rather then a cake walk. I can see why people are so into the Souls games.

I'd really, really like to. I can mostly handle the smaller guys now, but that bloody Cleric Beast has a really long reach.

I only ever played Demon's Souls up to the first kinda difficult enemy and didn't get around to Dark Souls, so I really wanted to give this game a shot. I just don't think the series is for me. I started a new character last night to better match my background to the weapon I wanted to use and today worked my way back toward the lycans on the bridge again. I died to the big door thumper guy because I screwed up (part of the learning curve). So I went back and got to the lycans who killed me. Then I got killed by the big guy again, which meant I lost all the echoes I had prior to that.

That leaves me with fewer vials, fewer molotovs, fewer pebbles etc and no echoes. It feels like I not only accomplished nothing, I actually lost progress since I have less consumables. And that's the block I can't get past.

Im getting wrecked by
Father G
any tips on fighting him? I found a small way to cheese the fight, but he gets super aggressive. btw Im not a fan of the cane at all, Ill stick with my swordsaw or whatever its called.

It's so nice that the Souls series it's getting more fans C: I honestly expected a loooot more people to basically give up on the game, and now so many more people get that "thing" about the Souls games that really can't be explained in words.
And FYI, I've beaten all Souls games (multiple times in multiple NG+) and Bloodborne has picked me, chewed me and spit me right back out... and I'm loving it.

i was going through a similar loop, then i decided to start grinding souls in the areas prior to that, backtracking to buy new armor, and ended up fully stocked with new armor and with more vials and molotovs than before.

still haven't gotten to another lamp yet though, haha

how do i kill the wolves on the bridge

When you're facing the end of the bridge with the big fat guy and the crows, there'll be a short flight of steps leading to a door on your left (with a single guy standing at the top of the steps). If you've opened that door you can lure the wolves to the doorway, which they won't be able to pass through. Just stand inside the doorway and hack away at them.

I have a question since OT is going so fast. Is there a way to mix and match armor for example. Can I mix the hat from
Father Gascoigne
armor set with another shirt or pants or can I only use it with that set?

2h axe and charge attack. Dont get knockdown during third phase you will lose a lot of life. Also dont have him locked. Camera will be your main enemy then not the boss.

Didnt like the first two, but for some reason I like playing this game. I gotta go to sleep but I cant wait to play this game again tomorrow. Didnt feel that way for Demons or Dark.

The gameplay is fun, I like the hack n slash with my saw cleaver and ripping apart these poor bloodborned inhabitants of yarnham. but i'm hating that dying is pretty much a core fucking aspect of the game. and that the multiplayer isn't even seamless.

If anyone wants help on either of the first 2 bosses let me know. All you need is an insight and the bell to summon me.

Doesnt matter, you can mix and match all you want.

I hated Dark Souls, so I guess I won't like this either. A game should be fun, not torture.

My first game of this "series", and I'm having fun. I'm not getting too worried about dying, in fact, I just spent around 30-minutes trying to beat this axe wielding ogre. It still hasn't worked out, but I decided to move on and found my first short cut! I'm at the first boss now, but I may go back a bit as I feel I might do a little exploring.

All in all, it's fun. This Bloodecho mechanic is interesting, and when my count is pretty high the stress it induces is nuts. I look forward to checking out the Souls games next.

I'm doing ok I think. I just killed the Cleric Beast by some miracle. I'm sure this video shows my noob skills lol.
My Cleric Beast Fight (probably painful to watch for people good at the game): https://youtu.be/i-YMaNBj_WE

I probably shouldn't have started as a Waste of Flesh lol.
You did good. Real good, in fact.

The only thing I would say is that a few shortcuts would have made the track to the boss even quicker. Try to look around the levels for places you haven't been and check every door.

I've never played a souls game but I'm having a good time so far despite dying so much. After the first checkpoint I was able to take my time picking off enemies one by one and finding that first shortcut back to the checkpoint felt SO REWARDING lol. That's about as far as I've gone so far, I have not fought the first boss but I'm pretty sure I know where he is.

Lost 11k echos to the Cleric Beast I had built up running around and dying a bit, died running back, so they were gone forever. Sucks, but also kind of a relief that the next time I wouldn't have to worry about them. Echos/souls mean very little initially, skill improvement when it comes to attacking and avoiding attacks is much more important. You can also build up 1000+ echos pretty quickly just running through that bonfire area and killing everyone, then use that to buy vials and Molotovs. Takes a little time, but not too much.

Good luck, don't give up!

gooooood.

took a long time to make it to the first boss, and then a long time to beat it.

i haven't had as much trouble after that. second boss took 3 or 4 tries, so I didn't know if it was a mini-boss or what. and then i didn't really die since until...

being killed by the gatling gun twice, just checking out what i was supposed to do. i know where to drop down now (i think),so we'll see how challenging it gets from there. i don't know if that will even lead to the shooter of course! but before i do that i entered the gate that required the 10000 echo emblem from the bath messenger, and that path gave me a little bit of grief. lost a fair few echoes dying to the mask wearing shooter when you drop down from the roof. and there's a lever for the gate right there, right? i really should have opened that. but anyway, going back through there i tried to take on too many guys and died. very sad. when i get back into it i will attempt it again.

i'm saying the best part of this game is the tension. i'm swearing under my breath pretty constantly in areas i don't have a full handle on, or guys who can take you out pretty easily. and death has resulted in my pulling my hair and internal noooooooooooo!s.

thus far i haven't thought of it as obtuse. i didn't see the bench when i needed to repair my axe (despite the guy telling you it's a workshop or whatever), so a quick google fixed that up. and, i watched a tiny bit of footage and saw how to stun with a gun. i guess i had tried it and didn't know the timing, but i'll have to give it another shot now. other than that, i've just thought of it as something where i personally need to improve.

i've just stuck with my starting weapon so far. bought the cleaver but haven't wanted to use it, as i'm happy to use my upgraded axe.

also i started as milquetoast since i had no idea what to choose, and have pretty much only been leveling up vitality. don't know if that's a bad idea! saw there were softcaps, so maybe i'll be fine.

i really, really, really like it. performance seems to be the worst aspect. looking at it sometimes is not pleasant. camera has been annoying on the bosses, but i didn't really feel it detracted from them. sort of something else to consider when manoeuvring, though it's probably not supposed to be.

Demon's Souls was my only souls game. I never beat it but I did have a much easier time with it. Bloodborne, however, has killed me forty times between the first lantern and the sewer of the first map.

It makes me happy to see so many positive reactions here. When I saw the threads I mentioned in the OP I thought "Man these guys are gonna hate the game and there will be so many 'fell for GAF hype, never again!' threads", but this is great.

Thus game is brilliant, I was never a massive fan of demons or dark, but I recognized that they were great games. Just too slow paced and defensive for my tastes. This game has the challenge from those games but puts the focus on offense. Is so good, I feel in love with this game when I was traversing the sewers with a torch, so atmospheric, so nerve wracking.

I adore this game.
