Wow, that's surprising. Neil always said they wouldn't do it since Sue had already seen the new series as it aired. I will be interested to see how this turns out.
Yeah, it's funny really since Sue always seemed excited about the idea of watching the new series (even after all she'd gone through with the classic series), but Neil couldn't bear watching some of those early modern episodes again. They've been getting quite nostalgic about their Doctor Who bingewatch lately though, so I guess that's part of it.
I also seem to remember they did some sort of crowdfunding thing a couple of months back for either the book or their Blake's 7 experiment, and I believe that blog entries for the modern series were one of the stretch goals. Can't remember exactly though.

I was somewhat amused by how the video skipped over all of season 6 except for the opening and a fair chunk of season 7. Odd that it skipped over Day of the Doctor.

Even more awesome was that video leading me to the Series 1 trailer. It must've been amazing for people who lived through the "Wilderness Years" to see that pop up for the first time.

I already posted about this in the 10th anniversary thread, but I suppose there will be more people in here who are interested in this. Big Finish just announced that their license has been renewed to 2020. They do specify a couple of times that it's for Classic Who, and only mention the Doctors up to McGann. They also say that they'll announce a couple of new Classic Who titles over the next weekend, so perhaps the idea that they were going to announce the modern license was a bit of miscommunication.
Oh, and the first title that they've announced is a McCoy audio titled Damaged Goods. Interesting for fans of the Eccleston/Tennant era as it's based on the first ever Who script written by Russel T Davies, which he pitched to the BBC back when the classic show was still on the air (but which wasn't accepted at the time).

Isn't Damaged Goods an adaptation of RTD's NA that he wrote for the Seventh Doctor? I've been looking for a copy for ages, but they go for silly money.
Ah right, it was a novel, not an episode. I was mistaken I guess. Just looked at a summary, interesting that that novel already had a Tyler family who lived on a council estate.

BBCA seems to like playing every New Who episode in order. But for some reason they always skip season 1 and jump right to Christmas Invasion. Anyone know why? Do they think no one would want to watch the Eccleston season? The man practically saved Doctor Who!

The Damaged Goods adaptation was actually announced a while ago, but it's good that they're raising awareness of it. The license renewal is great news. That's quite a lengthy renewal.
So I'm confused, can somebody fill me in what this could possibly mean? A spinoff series of sorts? Something else?

It just has a very different (much cheaper) look and feel from the other series', I think, and they worry about it turning people off.
As it turns out it didn't mean anything, but Big Finish make audio dramas based on the original Doctor Who series (63-89, plus the TV Movie - so the first 8 Doctors) using the original casts. So that's everything from sometimes side stories with companions on their own, to hearing the original casts from way back when in all new stories in an audio-only form that's still very exciting/convincing.
The thing everybody is waiting for is for the BBC to give Big Finish the green light on an older era of 'new' Doctor Who - IE, people are waiting for the day the BBC gives them the thumbs up for RTD era characters. Torchwood, 9th/10th Doctors and their companions. Tennant especially is chomping at the bit to do it, it seems. This announcement wasn't that, though, but there is a gradual creep of new Doctor Who into the Big Finish world, as they're doing a story starring Kate Stewart.

Thinking back to some of the River Song stuff, did they just give up on half of it? We never saw the upgraded sonic screwdriver and no Doctor ever bothers clicking his fingers to open the doors. And we never saw the last night before River went on the expedition, did we?
When we originally saw it I got the impression that it was a much older Doctor who did all this, then it just turned out to be across the span of 2 Doctors and Matt Smith just decided to age 400 years between episodes. It's a bit disappointing.

The Doctor gains a new companion in the form of Helen Sinclair (played by Hattie Morahan), who is described as a woman from 1963 who's basically a combination of Barbara, Sarah Jane, Tegan and Verity Lambert.
The story concerns itself with the Doctor being called back to Gallifrey to battle a villain known as the Eleven, played by Mark Bonnar. I love the idea behind this villain, especially because they could make him into some sort of alternate, evil Matt Smith. The Eleven is

It's true they dropped the ball with River Song, but Moffat said, a long time ago, that we weren't gonna see most River's interactions with the Doctor.
As for opening the doors with a finger click, 11th did it several times, and so is 12th.
Those recent Big Finish covers in the style of the modern series really make me sad that it's unlikely we'll see any of those Doctors in a tv adventure with modern production values.
Classic Who rewatch update: I finished Death to the Daleks (which isn't great, but it's Terry Nation so that's a given), so that just leaves Monster of Peladon (I explained how much I dislike Curse of Peladon a couple of pages back. Monster is basically the same with added miners with badgers on their heads. Not looking forward to this one.) and Planet of the Spiders until I'm done with Pertwee. I'll probably take a break before I start with Tom Baker as work is starting to get a bit crazy again. I do know that I appreciate Pertwee a lot more the second time around. He'll never be my favorite Doctor, and the sexism/elitism can get a bit much at times, but there's a lot of charm in there as well. You can't go wrong with the Brig/Delgado/Jo team.
