Doctor Who Off-Season | Hey Missy, you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind

Yeah, the last announcement was that they're basically doing more adaptions of (Classic Doctor) novels. The timing and wording of it all was a bit weird.

Edit: Apparently there's one more announcement coming tomorrow. I wouldn't expect anything to do with the modern series though, except if it's going to be more details about the new Unit series.

Edit2: The last announcement had, as expected, nothing to do with the modern series. A sixth series of Fourth Doctor Adventures, featuring Romana 2 and K9 as companions, and a team up with Jago and Litefoot at some point.

2 #DoctorWho episode titles revealed! The Girl Who Died by Jamie Mathieson & Steven Moffat and The Woman Who Lived, by Catherine Tregenna.

Ooh. And Catherine Tregenna confirmed.

And the Doctor Who team have really stepped up in terms of controlling information and releasing it well on social media. There's been a definite shift and they're doing it well.

Might be a thing where they'll be filming in public soon, with Maisie (and probably those two scripts). Seemed to be a big factor behind how S8 info was released.

Yeah, likely. But they've properly got it now, made sure to get a nice photo on the set, brand it for social media, it's a level of detail that is absolutely correct to do - but is nice to see how it's evolved.

Nice to see Jamie Mathieson back.
Not heard of Catherine Tregenna before let me look her up...

The next announcement from Big Finish: The full reveal of the next Eight Doctor series starting in October.

It's called Doom Coalition

The full announcement is a bit too big to quote here, but it's described as a stand alone series that would also provide a good jumping on point for new listeners. The Doctor gains a new companion in the form of Helen Sinclair (played by Hattie Morahan), who is described as a woman from 1963 who's basically a combination of Barbara, Sarah Jane, Tegan and Verity Lambert.

The story concerns itself with the Doctor being called back to Gallifrey to battle a villain known as the Eleven, played by Mark Bonnar. I love the idea behind this villain, especially because they could make him into some sort of alternate, evil Matt Smith. The Eleven is
a Time Lord who retains each one of his personalities every time he regenerates; now in his Eleventh incarnation, he is an insane sociopath. Captured by the Seventh Doctor and placed in confinement on Gallifrey, the Eleven has been contained for many years. But now he has escaped…

More on Big Finish's facebook page.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge ... but is this tv episodes or some kind of audio novel ?

She wrote some of the better episodes though, 'Out of Time' (the one with the 1950s people), 'Captain Jack Harkness' (Jack goes back to the 1940s and meets the guy he took his name from) & 'Adam' (the one with the alien who inserts himself into everyone's memories). She also did the space whale episode 'Meat', which wasn't great.

Has this entire season been shot on sets so far?

I don't think I have seen a candid location photo yet. That's remarkable.

This is the ultimate destination of Moffat's Doctor Who, though, isn't it? It's funny - RTD's show looked cheaper but was shot on location more and stuff, and so in budget looked closer to the old show but in execution was a different beast entirely. Moffat's era has slowly over the years reversed - they've got more money, but it's returning to the more claustrophobic sound stage bound filming that the old series was renowned for.

Wait, space whale? Meat is the one with the cannibals where there is no alien threat disappearing hitch-hikers, just fucked up humans, and it's great.

No, you're thinking of Countrycide, Space Whale is right.

That's quite the get.

And great to see Mathieson back. Teaming up with Moffat should hopefully mean great things. Interesting titles too. Seems to suggest another pseudo-two parter. Lots of 'complimentary' episode titles so far. I'm still feeling like Missy will play a big part in mirroring the Doctor's stories.

Mathieson and Tregenna writing? Maisie Williams guesting? Most exciting block of filming for a good long while.

I'm guessing this is going to be some kind of pseudo two-parter- the episodes are clearly linked, despite the different writers.

The "and Steven Moffat" just means it'll have some series-arc scenes, surely.

Didn't Moffat have some pretty big involvement in Flatline? He was the reason it was Clara-centric and the tiny tardis was his idea I think. Seems to me like the two of them work rather well together.

Oh god, I can't wait for some Arya-style bitching at the Doctor.

Maisie could shut up and impress one of the biggest, meanest psychopaths in the 7 Kingdoms, Doctor. Good luck.

1. Jamie Matheison's back.
2. First female writer in 7 years (she did some of the, IMO, better Torchwood-episodes).
3. Maisie Williams.

Excuse me while I initiate my happy dance.

EDIT: On a minor note, Rufus Hound is also guest starring. I approve of that; thought he was an excellent host for the BAFTA Game Awards, if any of you watched that. Could be fun.

Glad to see Mathieson is returning. He kinda made it sound like last year that he was going to be out after Flatline.

I think the tweet you're thinking of was just intended to mean "That's me done for this season", but it's very easy to think of it instead of "That's me done with Doctor Who!"

Time Heist was a "and Steven Moffat"-episode, too. I think this probably just means Mathieson did the first couple of drafts, then Moffat stepped in and finished it. Mathieson's working on a lot right now, so it'd make sense.

Also, speculation: Maisie is playing a splinter of Clara, in her teens. It feels very much like something Moffat would come up with: "Well, Clara as an adult is certainly very energetic and commanding of The Doctor. Now consider The Doctor with a teenage, coming-of-age rebellious Clara; now that could be funny!"

Maisie doesn't really look like she could age.... 4 years and turn into Clara :\

Moffat does seem reticent about mentioning the role she plays.

I'm wondering if she might be a young Missy. Cue Genesis-esque "Have I that right?" stuff.

http://jamiemathieson.blogspot.com/2014/10/tiny-tardis-of-terror.html

Moffat came up with Clara carrying the TARDIS in her bag.

The five foot version of the Tardis was already in the script. 'Couldn't we just keep that process going? Shrink it right down, make the doors too small for him to get out?' There and then in the meeting I pitched the idea.

A tiny Tardis, but only on the outside. That could be kind of cool, couldn't it? We started riffing on the possibilities; the Doctor's arm reaching out, passing long things out like a Tommy Cooper gag, poking people in the eye. The mad thing was that no-one had done it before. In hindsight it seems obvious. The exterior has always been smaller on the outside. In this episode, we just keep going.

The next part of the puzzle came from Steven. I'm sure I would have figured it out given time, but he's just so damn quick. 'I'll go you one better.' he said. 'Clara carries the Tardis around in her bag for the whole episode.'

My smile froze. Of course she does Steven. And every time anyone compliments me on the idea I will have to hold my tongue and grind my teeth knowing you came up with the cherry on the cake. Damn your Bafta winning eyes.

I don't think Moffat will be doing anything more with the Impossible Girl plot.

Presumably her GOT filming schedule would be far too busy at present.

If she's a hit, I see GRRM being bombarded with letters from Whovians asking for her to be killed off!

(NB: I have little to no knowledge of the series, other than that she and Jerome from Robson and Jerome are in it. So don't read this as an implication one way or another!)

I have to imagine it would be easier to organize it when it's two short shows like GOT and Doctor Who. There's only 10 episodes of GOT a year, and the story is set up that only a small amount of time is centered around Arya's character.

Maisie guesting is cool. Matheison's return is even cooler :D

Anyway, I don't know if this was posted here before, it's a video of Capaldi being cool to kids on the 10th anniversary of NuWho.
Around 2:45 he mentions Susan, which I think they should do an episode with her during Capaldi's tenure.
