Bloodborne |OT2| Praise The Moon

Got a question for everyone.

I have never played a Souls game. I don't do well with difficult games, like at all. I am very much interested in this one tho just for the style and setting alone... but I don't want to drop $60 (and renting isn't really an option) on something that I could potentionally hate.

So my ultimate question is: I have Demon's Souls free via PS Plus, would trying that be a good little "demo" of sorts on rather I'd enjoy Bloodborne or are the games ultimately just way too different from each other?
I'm basically in the same boat, like some part of me wants this game.

The reason I'm kept away from it is somewhat of a lack of interest and the brutal difficulty.

I played Dark Souls II and I did not enjoy it. It felt like it was pretty boring, and I'm not sure if I should expect anything different with Bloodborne.

So, does anyone have combat tips? I've tried using all 3 starting weapons, and I can't seem to get the "feel" of it because it's so different than souls. The risk/reward of the gun use is a lot of fun, but it usual ends with me getting pounded into the dust.

I've almost made it to the first boss, but I'm finding myself still "not getting it" despite being a Demon's Souls and Dark Souls vet and consulting several guides.

Are you using the targeting system (press R3)? You can only perform the side-step move (hold direction down and press circle) when an enemy is targeted, the side-step has quick recovery so you can attack immediately after, way better than rolling and trying to attack afterwards. I found this helped me a lot.

I've been using Saw Cleaver +4 or so, should I continue to upgrade it? Working out nicely for me. But I see according to wikis that it doesn't really scale well, even when +10. I've only beaten 2nd boss, so still very early in game.

Basically, should I save my upgrades (haven't even found those 2nd tier upgrades yet) for better weapons later on?

Its best to have two weapons I think. I have the saw cleaver at +6 and
Ludwig's Blade
at +6. The cleaver is a great weapon though, so keep upgrading for now.

Damn Cthulhu
bitch stealing my insight through my neck. I knew she was dangerous, but watching her suck them away one at a time was painful as hell.
Dying would have been so much nicer.

Killed some bosses, helped a crazy old lady, crushed a young Violas' dream.

Got eaten by a giant invisible cthulu monster. It was a good night.

If you like Demon's Souls you will like this. Think of them more as precise games than difficult games.

So, after my digital copy got erased magically after updating the firmware, I went out and bought a boxed copy instead of re-downloading

Question: Will I have to re-download the Day 1 Patch, or is it stored separately from the game and it's still on my PS4?

How many praises have you guys gotten for notes? I have 14, and I am happy with that.

last I checked I had one around 30 for warning about a hard-to-see NPC in the middle of a bunch of barrels and shit.

what do you get for a positive rating? I didn't notice anything change.

The 2nd tier of items for upgrading weapons are also farmable? I barely have much of them and I already did beat 4 bosses.

I want to level the same weapons as you btw

There is?! The only shortcut I found was going through that way by using the key. What alternate route is there?
At the Cathedral Ward lantern a third door opens up on the right after the boss or talking to Gehrman, this leads to a tower with a dead end at the top (for now) and a way down.

You'll have to redownload it.

After beating the fourth boss and entering a new area, I have a few complaints. I love this game, but I don't like it as much as Dark Souls (my first souls game to be fair) so far. I'm just gonna spoil it all.

I really don't like the first area much at all, specifically how the rest of the game is tied behind Father G. I get this could be seen as like a tutorial sort of level, but I feel like that should have ended with Cleric Beast instead. Father G forms this bottleneck because of it. Taurus Demon was really hard in DkS for new players, but you could at least explore other areas of you were bored like the Catacombs and New Londo.

The new summoning system is a straight downgrade. It's way too easy to waste insight for no reason as a summoner. Adding in markers for people ringing their resonant bell and selecting one would fix this I think.

I realize there's apparently more options later in the game, and I bet they kept it until late game to keep the "you vs beasts" feel of the early game, but there is less variety, and that's not great.

I don't like how relatively confusing the story is. In Dark Souls it was obvious what you were supposed to do, but hear it's not so much. You're told to go to the cathedral, but when you go there you don't know if the chapel is the cathedral or what, and once you actually get there and beat a boss and see a vision that doesn't make sense and somehow you're supposed to know that one of the lines from that vision was a password to a door and now I'm in the woods and I have no idea why. I know I'm looking for paleblood, but I feel like things are a little too muddled, and you're seeing that in all the posts here about stuff like "where do I go after ____?"

That's all I can think of for now!

There's a gate you can open right next to the lantern.

Go down the stairs from the bridge, through the dark house, turn left, go up another set of stairs and there's a gate to open. It's a great place to farm blood for the Hunter armor also.

Yeah, I managed to get the Hunter armor earlier after saving up so I'm fine there, I just need to get ready for this Cleric Beast. @_@

There is?! The only shortcut I found was going through that way by using the key. What alternate route is there?

You go up the elevator from the ward, go right on the tower drop down. Then you have to do a bunch of scary drops in a very dark room.

This is a personal answer but I've only played 6hs of Demon's souls in my life like two years ago, that little experience was just the thing that convince me that Bloodborne was going to be a blast for me. Although Bloodborne is more fast paced, it retains the same level of strategy. Best thing that happened to my PS4 by a laaarge margin.

Just started using the jumping R2 again...

lol, I forgot jumping attacks even exist after playing on PC for so long, where they're virtually impossible to reliably activate.

Yeah. Give that a shot, maybe try a build that doesn't use a shield and see how you like it. This game doesn't really have magic/ranged options (the gun is used to riposte enemies). If you enjoy Demon's Souls then I'd say you'd enjoy this.

I just thought it was the dead end. Funnily enough, I thought going through the route with the key also was a dead end.

I must have a bad time seeing ladders and ways downwards.

Blood-starved Beast is having its way with me. It's kind of funny, not one boss in dark souls 2 and demon's gave me any trouble. The only other boss that has done to me what bsb has is Smough & Ornstein, but that was because I was still green. I think my problem is that in phase 3 when it starts going ape shit I hold back too much and I stop parrying altogether.

What happens to the $60 you spent on the digital copy? Did you get a refund?

Did the launches of Demon's and Dark Souls have these many 'quirks' that needed to be ironed out/patched?

I was a late-comer to both of those.

The only thing I remember with DaS2 were some things having to be nerfed.

Yeah you won't get many of the 2nd tier upgrades until nearer the 5th boss and afterwards. I found a lot in the
Forbidden Forest
which is onwards to the 6th boss.

My god this game is unforgiving. Any tips for a noob who cant get past Central Yahmen (or whatever it's called)?

Pebbles and molotovs are your friend in this area. Try luring out individuals with pebbles, and failing that use molotovs on large groups.

If you're surrounded, use your transformed attacks for crowd control.

Happy hunting!

Okay, great to know! I have been using it, but I've noticed it loses lock on in mob type scenarios, but that is probably due to something dumb I am doing lol. I didn't realize the sidestep allowed immediately counterattack though, that's helpful!

Guys, need some help. I'm at the part where the turret keeps shooting at me. After I went down the stair, I see there are two rooms on the left. One room is filled with hooded beast and and walking beasts. Is this the right one? I dont want to keep running around and get turret shot ;_;

Hey guys

I need some serious advice since some of what I hear is conflicting. Its regarding the umbilical cords.

I have the one from the hidden workshop area. I heard that the next one is recieved automatically from a wet nurse boss. and a final one can be found form the NPC the whore .

my problem is I cant talk to the whore anymore, my sky is purple and I think I have progressed too far. There is a fail safe though and apparently there is a 4th piece from the clinic. I forget her name but when I went to see her she attacked me and I took off. Some people say it depends on when you kill her she may drop the cord. If its too early its just a rune. Can anyone help?

also if you can please PM me answer? this board moves WAY to quick.

I'm really starting to hate Rom.
Damn spiders can OHK me at over 1k health, and Rom sometimes spams its missile attack over and over again!
